느헤미야 (Nehemiah) 1 장.

Nehemiah 1

느1:1 하가랴의 아들 느헤미야의 말이라 아닥사스다 왕 제이십년 기슬르월에 내가 수산 궁에 있는데

The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah: In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa,

느1:2 내 형제들 가운데 하나인 하나니가 두어 사람과 함께 유다에서 내게 이르렀기로 내가 그 사로잡힘을 면하고 남아 있는 유다와 예루살렘 사람들의 형편을 물은즉

Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem.

느1:3 그들이 내게 이르되 사로잡힘을 면하고 남아 있는 자들이 그 지방 거기에서 큰 환난을 당하고 능욕을 받으며 예루살렘 성은 허물어지고 성문들은 불탔다 하는지라

They said to me, "Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire."

느1:4 내가 이 말을 듣고 앉아서 울고 수일 동안 슬퍼하며 하늘의 하나님 앞에 금식하며 기도하여

When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

느1:5 이르되 하늘의 하나님 여호와 크고 두려우신 하나님이여 주를 사랑하고 주의 계명을 지키는 자에게 언약을 지키시며 긍휼을 베푸시는 주여 간구하나이다

Then I said: "O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands,

느1:6 이제 종이 주의 종들인 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 주야로 기도하오며 우리 이스라엘 자손이 주께 범죄한 죄들을 자복하오니 주는 귀를 기울이시며 눈을 여시사 종의 기도를 들으시옵소서 나와 내 아버지의 집이 범죄하여

let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father's house, have committed against you.

느1:7 주를 향하여 크게 악을 행하여 주께서 주의 종 모세에게 명령하신 계명과 율례와 규례를 지키지 아니하였나이다

We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.

느1:8 옛적에 주께서 주의 종 모세에게 명령하여 이르시되 만일 너희가 범죄하면 내가 너희를 여러 나라 가운데에 흩을 것이요

"Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations,

느1:9 만일 내게로 돌아와 내 계명을 지켜 행하면 너희 쫓긴 자가 하늘 끝에 있을지라도 내가 거기서부터 그들을 모아 내 이름을 두려고 택한 곳에 돌아오게 하리라 하신 말씀을 이제 청하건대 기억하옵소서

but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.'

느1:10 이들은 주께서 일찍이 큰 권능과 강한 손으로 구속하신 주의 종들이요 주의 백성이니이다

"They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand.

느1:11 주여 구하오니 귀를 기울이사 종의 기도와 주의 이름을 경외하기를 기뻐하는 종들의 기도를 들으시고 오늘 종이 형통하여 이 사람들 앞에서 은혜를 입게 하옵소서 하였나니 그 때에 내가 왕의 술 관원이 되었느니라

O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man." I was cupbearer to the king.

느헤미야 (Nehemiah) 2 장.

Nehemiah 2

느2:1 아닥사스다 왕 제이십년 니산월에 왕 앞에 포도주가 있기로 내가 그 포도주를 왕에게 드 렸는데 이전에는 내가 왕 앞에서 수심이 없었더니

In the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was brought for him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had not been sad in his presence before;

느2:2 왕이 내게 이르시되 네가 병이 없거늘 어찌하여 얼굴에 수심이 있느냐 이는 필연 네 마음에 근심이 있음이로다 하더라 그 때에 내가 크게 두려워하여

so the king asked me, "Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart." I was very much afraid,

느2:3 왕께 대답하되 왕은 만세수를 하옵소서 내 조상들의 묘실이 있는 성읍이 이제까지 황폐하고 성문이 불탔사오니 내가 어찌 얼굴에 수심이 없사오리이까 하니

but I said to the king, "May the king live forever! Why should my face not look sad when the city where my fathers are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?"

느2:4 왕이 내게 이르시되 그러면 네가 무엇을 원하느냐 하시기로 내가 곧 하늘의 하나님께 묵도하고

The king said to me, "What is it you want?" Then I prayed to the God of heaven,

느2:5 왕에게 아뢰되 왕이 만일 좋게 여기시고 종이 왕의 목전에서 은혜를 얻었사오면 나를 유다 땅 나의 조상들의 묘실이 있는 성읍에 보내어 그 성을 건축하게 하옵소서 하였는데

and I answered the king, "If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it."

느2:6 그 때에 왕후도 왕 곁에 앉아 있었더라 왕이 내게 이르시되 네가 몇 날에 다녀올 길이며 어느 때에 돌아오겠느냐 하고 왕이 나를 보내기를 좋게 여기시기로 내가 기한을 정하고

Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, "How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?" It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.

느2:7 내가 또 왕에게 아뢰되 왕이 만일 좋게 여기시거든 강 서쪽 총독들에게 내리시는 조서를 내게 주사 그들에게 나를 용납하여 유다에 들어가기까지 통과하게 하시고

I also said to him, "If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah?

느2:8 또 왕의 삼림 감독 아삽에게 조서를 내리사 그가 성전에 속한 영문의 문과 성곽과 내가 들어갈 집을 위하여 들보로 쓸 재목을 내게 주게 하옵소서 하매 내 하나님의 선한 손이 나를 도우시므로 왕이 허락하고

And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the king's forest, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?" And because the gracious hand of my God was upon me, the king granted my requests.

느2:9 군대 장관과 마병을 보내어 나와 함께 하게 하시기로 내가 강 서쪽에 있는 총독들에게 이르러 왕의 조서를 전하였더니

So I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates and gave them the king's letters. The king had also sent army officers and cavalry with me.

느2:10 호론 사람 산발랏과 종이었던 암몬 사람 도비야가 이스라엘 자손을 흥왕하게 하려는 사람이 왔다 함을 듣고 심히 근심하더라

When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.

느2:11 내가 예루살렘에 이르러 머무른 지 사흘만에

I went to Jerusalem, and after staying there three days

느2:12 내 하나님께서 예루살렘을 위해 무엇을 할 것인지 내 마음에 주신 것을 내가 아무에게도 말하지 아니하고 밤에 일어나 몇몇 사람과 함께 나갈새 내가 탄 짐승 외에는 다른 짐승이 없더라

I set out during the night with a few men. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem. There were no mounts with me except the one I was riding on.

느2:13 그 밤에 골짜기 문으로 나가서 용정으로 분문에 이르는 동안에 보니 예루살렘 성벽이 다 무너졌고 성문은 불탔더라

By night I went out through the Valley Gate toward the Jackal Well and the Dung Gate, examining the walls of Jerusalem, which had been broken down, and its gates, which had been destroyed by fire.

느2:14 앞으로 나아가 샘문과 왕의 못에 이르러서는 탄 짐승이 지나갈 곳이 없는지라

Then I moved on toward the Fountain Gate and the King's Pool, but there was not enough room for my mount to get through;

느2:15 그 밤에 시내를 따라 올라가서 성벽을 살펴본 후에 돌아서 골짜기 문으로 들어와 돌아왔으나

so I went up the valley by night, examining the wall. Finally, I turned back and reentered through the Valley Gate.

느2:16 방백들은 내가 어디 갔었으며 무엇을 하였는지 알지 못하였고 나도 그 일을 유다 사람들에게나 제사장들에게나 귀족들에게나 방백들에게나 그 외에 일하는 자들에게 알리지 아니하다가

The officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing, because as yet I had said nothing to the Jews or the priests or nobles or officials or any others who would be doing the work.

느2:17 후에 그들에게 이르기를 우리가 당한 곤경은 너희도 보고 있는 바라 예루살렘이 황폐하고 성문이 불탔으니 자, 예루살렘 성을 건축하여 다시 수치를 당하지 말자 하고

Then I said to them, "You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace."

느2:18 또 그들에게 하나님의 선한 손이 나를 도우신 일과 왕이 내게 이른 말씀을 전하였더니 그들의 말이 일어나 건축하자 하고 모두 힘을 내어 이 선한 일을 하려 하매

I also told them about the gracious hand of my God upon me and what the king had said to me. They replied, "Let us start rebuilding." So they began this good work.

느2:19 호론 사람 산발랏과 종이었던 암몬 사람 도비야와 아라비아 사람 게셀이 이 말을 듣고 우리를 업신여기고 우리를 비웃어 이르되 너희가 하는 일이 무엇이냐 너희가 왕을 배반하고자 하느냐 하기로

But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they mocked and ridiculed us. "What is this you are doing?" they asked. "Are you rebelling against the king?"

느2:20 내가 그들에게 대답하여 이르되 하늘의 하나님이 우리를 형통하게 하시리니 종들인 우리가 일어나 건축하려니와 오직 너희에게는 예루살렘에서 아무 기업도 없고 권리도 없고 기억되는 바도 없다 하였느니라

I answered them by saying, "The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it."
