역대하 10 장.

대하10:1 르호보암이 세겜으로 갔으니 이는 온 이스라엘이 그를 왕으로 삼고자 하여 세겜에 이르렀음이더라

대하10:2 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 전에 솔로몬 왕의 낯을 피하여 애굽으로 도망하여 있었더니 이 일을 듣고 여로보암이 애굽에서부터 돌아오매

대하10:3 무리가 사람을 보내어 그를 불렀더라 여로보암과 온 이스라엘이 와서 르호보암에게 말하여 이르되

대하10:4 왕의 아버지께서 우리의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 왕은 이제 왕의 아버지께서 우리에게 시킨 고역과 메운 무거운 멍에를 가볍게 하소서 그리하시면 우리가 왕을 섬기겠나이다

대하10:5 르호보암이 그들에게 대답하되 삼 일 후에 다시 내게로 오라 하매 백성이 가니라

대하10:6 르호보암 왕이 그의 아버지 솔로몬의 생전에 그 앞에 모셨던 원로들과 의논하여 이르되 너희는 이 백성에게 어떻게 대답하도록 권고하겠느냐 하니

대하10:7 그들이 대답하여 이르되 왕이 만일 이 백성을 후대하여 기쁘게 하고 선한 말을 하시면 그들이 영원히 왕의 종이 되리이다 하나

대하10:8 왕은 원로들이 가르치는 것을 버리고 그 앞에 모시고 있는 자기와 함께 자라난 젊은 신하들과 의논하여

대하10:9 이르되 너희는 이 백성에게 어떻게 대답하도록 권고하겠느냐 백성이 내게 말하기를 왕의 아버지께서 우리에게 메운 멍에를 가볍게 하라 하였느니라 하니

대하10:10 함께 자라난 젊은 신하들이 왕께 말하여 이르되 이 백성들이 왕께 아뢰기를 왕의 아버지께서 우리의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 왕은 우리를 위하여 가볍게 하라 하였은즉 왕은 대답하시기를 내 새끼손가락이 내 아버지의 허리보다 굵으니

대하10:11 내 아버지가 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 메게 하였으나 이제 나는 너희의 멍에를 더욱 무겁게 할지라 내 아버지는 가죽 채찍으로 너희를 치셨으나 나는 전갈 채찍으로 하리라 하소서 하더라

대하10:12 삼 일 만에 여로보암과 모든 백성이 르호보암에게 나왔으니 이는 왕이 명령하여 이르기를 삼 일 만에 내게로 다시 오라 하였음이라

대하10:13 왕이 포학한 말로 대답할새 르호보암이 원로들의 가르침을 버리고

대하10:14 젊은 신하들의 가르침을 따라 그들에게 말하여 이르되 내 아버지는 너희의 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 나는 더 무겁게 할지라 내 아버지는 가죽 채찍으로 너희를 치셨으나 나는 전갈 채찍으로 치리라 하니라

대하10:15 왕이 이같이 백성의 말을 듣지 아니하였으니 이 일은 하나님께로 말미암아 난 것이라 여호와께서 전에 실로 사람 아히야로 하여금 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 이르신 말씀을 응하게 하심이더라

대하10:16 온 이스라엘은 왕이 자기들의 말을 듣지 아니함을 보고 왕에게 대답하여 이르되 우리가 다윗과 무슨 관계가 있느냐 이새의 아들에게서 받을 유산이 없도다 이스라엘아 각각 너희의 장막으로 돌아가라 다윗이여 이제 너는 네 집이나 돌보라 하고 온 이스라엘이 그들의 장막으로 돌아가니라

대하10:17 그러나 유다 성읍들에 사는 이스라엘 자손들에게는 르호보암이 그들의 왕이 되었더라

대하10:18 르호보암 왕이 역꾼의 감독 하도람을 보냈더니 이스라엘 자손이 저를 돌로 쳐 죽인지라 르호보암 왕이 급히 수레에 올라 예루살렘으로 도망하였더라

대하10:19 이에 이스라엘이 다윗의 집을 배반하여 오늘날까지 이르니라

요한계시록 1 장.

계1:1 예수 그리스도의 계시라 이는 하나님이 그에게 주사 반드시 속히 일어날 일들을 그 종들에게 보이시려고 그의 천사를 그 종 요한에게 보내어 알게 하신 것이라

계1:2 요한은 하나님의 말씀과 예수 그리스도의 증거 곧 자기가 본 것을 다 증언하였느니라

계1:3 이 예언의 말씀을 읽는 자와 듣는 자와 그 가운데에 기록한 것을 지키는 자는 복이 있나니 때가 가까움이라

계1:4 요한은 아시아에 있는 일곱 교회에 편지하노니 이제도 계시고 전에도 계셨고 장차 오실 이시며 그의 보좌 앞에 있는 일곱 영과

계1:5 또 충성된 증인으로 죽은 자들 가운데에서 먼저 나시고 땅의 임금들의 머리가 되신 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 은혜와 평강이 너희에게 있기를 원하노라 우리를 사랑하사 그의 피로 우리 죄에서 우리를 해방하시고

계1:6 그의 아버지 하나님을 위하여 우리를 나라와 제사장으로 삼으신 그에게 영광과 능력이 세세토록 있기를 원하노라 아멘

계1:7 볼지어다 그가 구름을 타고 오시리라 각 사람의 눈이 그를 보겠고 그를 찌른 자들도 볼 것이요 땅에 있는 모든 족속이 그로 말미암아 애곡하리니 그러하리라 아멘

계1:8 주 하나님이 이르시되 나는 알파와 오메가라 이제도 있고 전에도 있었고 장차 올 자요 전능한 자라 하시더라

계1:9 나 요한은 너희 형제요 예수의 환난과 나라와 참음에 동참하는 자라 하나님의 말씀과 예수를 증언하였음으로 말미암아 밧모라 하는 섬에 있었더니

계1:10 주의 날에 내가 성령에 감동되어 내 뒤에서 나는 나팔 소리와 같은 큰 음성을 들으니

계1:11 이르되 네가 보는 것을 두루마리에 써서 에베소, 서머나, 버가모, 두아디라, 사데, 빌라델비아, 라오디게아 등 일곱 교회에 보내라 하시기로

계1:12 몸을 돌이켜 나에게 말한 음성을 알아보려고 돌이킬 때에 일곱 금 촛대를 보았는데

계1:13 촛대 사이에 인자 같은 이가 발에 끌리는 옷을 입고 가슴에 금띠를 띠고

계1:14 그의 머리와 털의 희기가 흰 양털 같고 눈 같으며 그의 눈은 불꽃같고

계1:15 그의 발은 풀무불에 단련한 빛난 주석 같고 그의 음성은 많은 물소리와 같으며

계1:16 그의 오른손에 일곱 별이 있고 그의 입에서 좌우에 날선 검이 나오고 그 얼굴은 해가 힘있게 비치는 것 같더라

계1:17 내가 볼 때에 그의 발 앞에 엎드러져 죽은 자 같이 되매 그가 오른손을 내게 얹고 이르시되 두려워하지 말라 나는 처음이요 마지막이니

계1:18 곧 살아 있는 자라 내가 전에 죽었었노라 볼지어다 이제 세세토록 살아 있어 사망과 음부의 열쇠를 가졌노니

계1:19 그러므로 네가 본 것과 지금 있는 일과 장차 될 일을 기록하라

계1:20 네가 본 것은 내 오른손의 일곱 별의 비밀과 또 일곱 금 촛대라 일곱 별은 일곱 교회의 사자요 일곱 촛대는 일곱 교회니라

스바냐 2 장.

습2:1 수치를 모르는 백성아 모일지어다 모일지어다

습2:2 명령이 시행되어 날이 겨 같이 지나가기 전, 여호와의 진노가 너희에게 내리기 전, 여호와의 분노의 날이 너희에게 이르기 전에 그리할지어다

습2:3 여호와의 규례를 지키는 세상의 모든 겸손한 자들아 너희는 여호와를 찾으며 공의와 겸손을 구하라 너희가 혹시 여호와의 분노의 날에 숨김을 얻으리라

습2:4 가사는 버림을 당하며 아스글론은 폐허가 되며 아스돗은 대낮에 쫓겨나며 에그론은 뽑히리라

습2:5 해변 주민 그렛 족속에게 화 있을진저 블레셋 사람의 땅 가나안아 여호와의 말씀이 너희를 치나니 내가 너를 멸하여 주민이 없게 하리라

습2:6 해변은 풀밭이 되어 목자의 움막과 양 떼의 우리가 거기에 있을 것이며

습2:7 그 지경은 유다 족속의 남은 자에게로 돌아갈지라 그들이 거기서 양 떼를 먹이고 저녁에는 아스글론 집들에 누우리니 이는 그들의 하나님 여호와가 그들을 보살피사 그들이 사로잡힘을 돌이킬 것임이라

습2:8 내가 모압의 비방과 암몬 자손이 조롱하는 말을 들었나니 그들이 내 백성을 비방하고 자기들의 경계에 대하여 교만하였느니라

습2:9 그러므로 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 말하노라 내가 나의 삶을 두고 맹세하노니 장차 모압은 소돔 같으며 암몬 자손은 고모라 같을 것이라 찔레가 나며 소금 구덩이가 되어 영원히 황폐하리니 내 백성의 남은 자들이 그들을 노략하며 나의 남은 백성이 그것을 기업으로 얻을 것이라

습2:10 그들이 이런 일을 당할 것은 그들이 만군의 여호와의 백성에 대하여 교만하여졌음이라

습2:11 여호와가 그들에게 두렵게 되어서 세상의 모든 신을 쇠약하게 하리니 이방의 모든 해변 사람들이 각각 자기 처소에서 여호와께 경배하리라

습2:12 구스 사람들아 너희도 내 칼에 죽임을 당하리라

습2:13 여호와가 북쪽을 향하여 손을 펴서 앗수르를 멸하며 니느웨를 황폐하게 하여 사막 같이 메마르게 하리니

습2:14 각종 짐승이 그 가운데에 떼로 누울 것이며 당아와 고슴도치가 그 기둥 꼭대기에 깃들이고 그것들이 창에서 울 것이며 문턱이 적막하리니 백향목으로 지은 것이 벗겨졌음이라

습2:15 이는 기쁜 성이라 염려 없이 거주하며 마음속에 이르기를 오직 나만 있고 나 외에는 다른 이가 없다 하더니 어찌 이와 같이 황폐하여 들짐승이 엎드릴 곳이 되었는고 지나가는 자마다 비웃으며 손을 흔들리로다

누가복음 24 장.

눅24:1 안식 후 첫날 새벽에 이 여자들이 그 준비한 향품을 가지고 무덤에 가서

눅24:2 돌이 무덤에서 굴려 옮겨진 것을 보고

눅24:3 들어가니 주 예수의 시체가 보이지 아니하더라

눅24:4 이로 인하여 근심할 때에 문득 찬란한 옷을 입은 두 사람이 곁에 섰는지라

눅24:5 여자들이 두려워 얼굴을 땅에 대니 두 사람이 이르되 어찌하여 살아 있는 자를 죽은 자 가운데서 찾느냐

눅24:6 여기 계시지 않고 살아나셨느니라 갈릴리에 계실 때에 너희에게 어떻게 말씀하셨는지를 기억하라

눅24:7 이르시기를 인자가 죄인의 손에 넘겨져 십자가에 못 박히고 제삼일에 다시 살아나야 하리라 하셨느니라 한대

눅24:8 그들이 예수의 말씀을 기억하고

눅24:9 무덤에서 돌아가 이 모든 것을 열한 사도와 모든 다른 이에게 알리니

눅24:10 (이 여자들은 막달라 마리아와 요안나와 야고보의 모친 마리아라 또 그들과 함께 한 다른 여자들도 이것을 사도들에게 알리니라)

눅24:11 사도들은 그들의 말이 허탄한 듯이 들려 믿지 아니하나

눅24:12 베드로는 일어나 무덤에 달려가서 구부려 들여다 보니 세마포만 보이는지라 그 된 일을 놀랍게 여기며 집으로 돌아가니라

눅24:13 그 날에 그들 중 둘이 예루살렘에서 이십오 리 되는 엠마오라 하는 마을으로 가면서

눅24:14 이 모든 된 일을 서로 이야기하더라

눅24:15 그들이 서로 이야기하며 문의할 때에 예수께서 가까이 이르러 그들과 동행하시나

눅24:16 그들의 눈이 가리어져서 그인 줄 알아보지 못하거늘

눅24:17 예수께서 이르시되 너희가 길 가면서 서로 주고받고 하는 이야기가 무엇이냐 하시니 두 사람이 슬픈 빛을 띠고 머물러 서더라

눅24:18 그 한 사람인 글로바라 하는 자가 대답하여 이르되 당신이 예루살렘에 체류하면서도 요즘 거기서 된 일을 혼자만 알지 못하느냐

눅24:19 이르시되 무슨 일이냐 이르되 나사렛 예수의 일이니 그는 하나님과 모든 백성 앞에서 말과 일에 능하신 선지자이거늘

눅24:20 우리 대제사장들과 관리들이 사형 판결에 넘겨 주어 십자가에 못 박았느니라

눅24:21 우리는 이 사람이 이스라엘을 속량할 자라고 바랐노라 이뿐 아니라 이 일이 일어난 지가 사흘째요

눅24:22 또한 우리 중에 어떤 여자들이 우리로 놀라게 하였으니 이는 그들이 새벽에 무덤에 갔다가

눅24:23 그의 시체는 보지 못하고 와서 그가 살아나셨다 하는 천사들의 나타남을 보았다 함이라

눅24:24 또 우리와 함께 한 자 중에 두어 사람이 무덤에 가 과연 여자들이 말한 바와 같음을 보았으나 예수는 보지 못하였느니라 하거늘

눅24:25 이르시되 미련하고 선지자들이 말한 모든 것을 마음에 더디 믿는 자들이여

눅24:26 그리스도가 이런 고난을 받고 자기의 영광에 들어가야 할 것이 아니냐 하시고

눅24:27 이에 모세와 모든 선지자의 글로 시작하여 모든 성경에 쓴 바 자기에 관한 것을 자세히 설명하시니라

눅24:28 그들의 가는 마을에 가까이 가매 예수는 더 가려 하는 것 같이 하시니

눅24:29 그들이 강권하여 이르되 우리와 함께 유하사이다 때가 저물어가고 날이 이미 기울었나이다 하니 이에 그들과 함께 유하러 들어가시니라

눅24:30 그들과 함께 음식 잡수실 때에 떡을 가지사 축사하시고 떼어 그들에게 주시니

눅24:31 그들의 눈이 밝아져 그인 줄 알아 보더니 예수는 그들에게 보이지 아니하시는지라

눅24:32 그들이 서로 말하되 길에서 우리에게 말씀하시고 우리에게 성경을 풀어 주실 때에 우리 속에서 마음이 뜨겁지 아니하더냐 하고

눅24:33 곧 그 때로 일어나 예루살렘에 돌아가 보니 열한 제자 및 그들과 함께 한 자들이 모여 있어

눅24:34 말하기를 주께서 과연 살아나시고 시몬에게 보이셨다 하는지라

눅24:35 두 사람도 길에서 된 일과 예수께서 떡을 떼심으로 자기들에게 알려지신 것을 말하더라

눅24:36 이 말을 할 때에 예수께서 친히 그 가운데 서서 이르시되 너희에게 평강이 있을지어다 하시니

눅24:37 그들이 놀라고 무서워하여 그 보는 것을 영으로 생각하는지라

눅24:38 예수께서 이르시되 어찌하여 두려워하며 어찌하여 마음에 의심이 일어나느냐

눅24:39 내 손과 발을 보고 나인 줄 알라 또 나를 만져 보라 영은 살과 뼈가 없으되 너희 보는 바와 같이 나는 있느니라

눅24:40 이 말씀을 하시고 손과 발을 보이시나

눅24:41 그들이 너무 기쁘므로 아직도 믿지 못하고 놀랍게 여길 때에 이르시되 여기 무슨 먹을 것이 있느냐 하시니

눅24:42 이에 구운 생선 한 토막을 드리니

눅24:43 받으사 그 앞에서 잡수시더라

눅24:44 또 이르시되 내가 너희와 함께 있을 때에 너희에게 말한 바 곧 모세의 율법과 선지자의 글과 시편에 나를 가리켜 기록된 모든 것이 이루어져야 하리라 한 말이 이것이라 하시고

눅24:45 이에 그들의 마음을 열어 성경을 깨닫게 하시고

눅24:46 또 이르시되 이같이 그리스도가 고난을 받고 제삼일에 죽은 자 가운데서 살아날 것과

눅24:47 또 그의 이름으로 죄 사함을 받게 하는 회개가 예루살렘에서 시작하여 모든 족속에게 전파될 것이 기록되었으니

눅24:48 너희는 이 모든 일의 증인이라

눅24:49 볼지어다 내가 내 아버지께서 약속하신 것을 너희에게 보내리니 너희는 위로부터 능력으로 입혀질 때까지 이 성에 머물라 하시니라

눅24:50 예수께서 그들을 데리고 베다니 앞까지 나가사 손을 들어 그들에게 축복하시더니

눅24:51 축복하실 때에 그들을 떠나 (하늘로 올려지시니)

눅24:52 그들이 (그에게 경배하고) 큰 기쁨으로 예루살렘에 돌아가

눅24:53 늘 성전에서 하나님을 찬송하니라

2 Chronicles 10.

10:1 Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all the Israelites had gone there to make him king.

10:2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard this (he was in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), he returned from Egypt.

10:3 So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel went to Rehoboam and said to him:

10:4 "Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you."

10:5 Rehoboam answered, "Come back to me in three days." So the people went away.

10:6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. "How would you advise me to answer these people?" he asked.

10:7 They replied, "If you will be kind to these people and please them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants."

10:8 But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.

10:9 He asked them, "What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, 'Lighten the yoke your father put on us'?"

10:10 The young men who had grown up with him replied, "Tell the people who have said to you, 'Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter'--tell them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist.

10:11 My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.'"

10:12 Three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, "Come back to me in three days."

10:13 The king answered them harshly. Rejecting the advice of the elders,

10:14 he followed the advice of the young men and said, "My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions."

10:15 So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from God, to fulfill the word the LORD had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.

10:16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: "What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse's son? To your tents, O Israel! Look after your own house, O David!" So all the Israelites went home.

10:17 But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah, Rehoboam still ruled over them.

10:18 King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram, who was in charge of forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. King Rehoboam, however, managed to get into his chariot and escape to Jerusalem.

10:19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day. 2CH

Revelation 1.

1:1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,

1:2 who testifies to everything he saw--that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

1:3 Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.

1:4 John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne,

1:5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,

1:6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

1:7 Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.

1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."

1:9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

1:10 On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet,

1:11 which said: "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea."

1:12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands,

1:13 and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man," dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.

1:14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.

1:15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.

1:16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

1:17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.

1:18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

1:19 "Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later.

1:20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Zephaniah 2.

2:1 Gather together, gather together, O shameful nation,

2:2 before the appointed time arrives and that day sweeps on like chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the day of the LORD'S wrath comes upon you.

2:3 Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the LORD'S anger.

2:4 Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon left in ruins. At midday Ashdod will be emptied and Ekron uprooted.

2:5 Woe to you who live by the sea, O Kerethite people; the word of the LORD is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines. "I will destroy you, and none will be left."

2:6 The land by the sea, where the Kerethites dwell, will be a place for shepherds and sheep pens.

2:7 It will belong to the remnant of the house of Judah; there they will find pasture. In the evening they will lie down in the houses of Ashkelon. The LORD their God will care for them; he will restore their fortunes.

2:8 "I have heard the insults of Moab and the taunts of the Ammonites, who insulted my people and made threats against their land.

2:9 Therefore, as surely as I live," declares the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, "surely Moab will become like Sodom, the Ammonites like Gomorrah--a place of weeds and salt pits, a wasteland forever. The remnant of my people will plunder them; the survivors of my nation will inherit their land."

2:10 This is what they will get in return for their pride, for insulting and mocking the people of the LORD Almighty.

2:11 The LORD will be awesome to them when he destroys all the gods of the land. The nations on every shore will worship him, every one in its own land.

2:12 "You too, O Cushites, will be slain by my sword."

2:13 He will stretch out his hand against the north and destroy Assyria, leaving Nineveh utterly desolate and dry as the desert.

2:14 Flocks and herds will lie down there, creatures of every kind. The desert owl and the screech owl will roost on her columns. Their calls will echo through the windows, rubble will be in the doorways, the beams of cedar will be exposed.

2:15 This is the carefree city that lived in safety. She said to herself, "I am, and there is none besides me." What a ruin she has become, a lair for wild beasts! All who pass by her scoff and shake their fists.

Luke 24.

24:1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.

24:2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,

24:3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

24:4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.

24:5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead?

24:6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:

24:7 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'"

24:8 Then they remembered his words.

24:9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.

24:10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles.

24:11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.

24:12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.

24:13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.

24:14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.

24:15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;

24:16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

24:17 He asked them, "What are you discussing together as you walk along?" They stood still, their faces downcast.

24:18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, "Are you only a visitor to Jerusalem and do not know the things that have happened there in these days?"

24:19 "What things?" he asked. "About Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.

24:20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;

24:21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place.

24:22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning

24:23 but didn't find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.

24:24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see."

24:25 He said to them, "How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

24:26 Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?"

24:27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

24:28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther.

24:29 But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them.

24:30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.

24:31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.

24:32 They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"

24:33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together

24:34 and saying, "It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon."

24:35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

24:36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."

24:37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.

24:38 He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?

24:39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."

24:40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.

24:41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"

24:42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,

24:43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

24:44 He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

24:45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

24:46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

24:47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

24:48 You are witnesses of these things.

24:49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

24:50 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.

24:51 While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.

24:52 Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
