Exodus 40.
40:1 Then the LORD said to Moses:
40:2 "Set up the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the first month.
40:3 Place the ark of the Testimony in it and shield the ark with the curtain.
40:4 Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps.
40:5 Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
40:6 "Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting;
40:7 place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it.
40:8 Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.
40:9 "Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy.
40:10 Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy.
40:11 Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.
40:12 "Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water.
40:13 Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest.
40:14 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics.
40:15 Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue for all generations to come."
40:16 Moses did everything just as the LORD commanded him.
40:17 So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year.
40:18 When Moses set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts.
40:19 Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the LORD commanded him.
40:20 He took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it.
40:21 Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the Testimony, as the LORD commanded him.
40:22 Moses placed the table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain
40:23 and set out the bread on it before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him.
40:24 He placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle
40:25 and set up the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him.
40:26 Moses placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting in front of the curtain
40:27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the LORD commanded him.
40:28 Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
40:29 He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the LORD commanded him.
40:30 He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing,
40:31 and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet.
40:32 They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached the altar, as the LORD commanded Moses.
40:33 Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work.
40:34 Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
40:35 Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
40:36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;
40:37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out--until the day it lifted.
John 19.
19:1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.
19:2 The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe
19:3 and went up to him again and again, saying, "Hail, king of the Jews!" And they struck him in the face.
19:4 Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews, "Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him."
19:5 When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, "Here is the man!"
19:6 As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, "Crucify! Crucify!" But Pilate answered, "You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him."
19:7 The Jews insisted, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God."
19:8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid,
19:9 and he went back inside the palace. "Where do you come from?" he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.
19:10 "Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?"
19:11 Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
19:12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jews kept shouting, "If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar."
19:13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge's seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha).
19:14 It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews.
19:15 But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!" "Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered.
19:16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus.
19:17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha).
19:18 Here they crucified him, and with him two others--one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
19:19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
19:20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek.
19:21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, "Do not write 'The King of the Jews,' but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews."
19:22 Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."
19:23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
19:24 "Let's not tear it," they said to one another. "Let's decide by lot who will get it." This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said, "They divided my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing." So this is what the soldiers did.
19:25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
19:26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son,"
19:27 and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
19:28 Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty."
19:29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips.
19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
19:31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jews did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.
19:32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.
19:33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
19:34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
19:35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.
19:36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: "Not one of his bones will be broken,"
19:37 and, as another scripture says, "They will look on the one they have pierced."
19:38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jews. With Pilate's permission, he came and took the body away.
19:39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.
19:40 Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.
19:41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.
19:42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
Proverbs 16.
16:1 To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
16:2 All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
16:4 The LORD works out everything for his own ends--even the wicked for a day of disaster.
16:5 The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
16:6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.
16:7 When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.
16:8 Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice.
16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
16:10 The lips of a king speak as an oracle, and his mouth should not betray justice.
16:11 Honest scales and balances are from the LORD; all the weights in the bag are of his making.
16:12 Kings detest wrongdoing, for a throne is established through righteousness.
16:13 Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth.
16:14 A king's wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will appease it.
16:15 When a king's face brightens, it means life; his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.
16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!
16:17 The highway of the upright avoids evil; he who guards his way guards his life.
16:18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
16:19 Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.
16:20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.
16:21 The wise in heart are called discerning, and pleasant words promote instruction.
16:22 Understanding is a fountain of life to those who have it, but folly brings punishment to fools.
16:23 A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction.
16:24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
16:26 The laborer's appetite works for him; his hunger drives him on.
16:27 A scoundrel plots evil, and his speech is like a scorching fire.
16:28 A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.
16:29 A violent man entices his neighbor and leads him down a path that is not good.
16:30 He who winks with his eye is plotting perversity; he who purses his lips is bent on evil.
16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.
16:32 Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.
16:33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.
Philippians 3.
3:1 Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.
3:2 Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh.
3:3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh--
3:4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more:
3:5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;
3:6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless.
3:7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.
3:8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
3:9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.
3:10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
3:11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
3:12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
3:13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
3:14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
3:15 All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
3:16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
3:17 Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you.
3:18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
3:19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.
3:20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
3:21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
