출애굽기 30 장.

출30:1 너는 분향할 제단을 마들지니 곧 조각목으로 만들되

출30:2 길이가 한 규빗, 너비가 한 규빗으로 네모가 반듯하게 하고 높이는 두 규빗으로 하며 그 뿔을 그것과 이어지게 하고

출30:3 제단 상면과 전후 좌우 면과 뿔을 순금으로 싸고 주위에 금 테를 두를지며

출30:4 금 테 아래 양쪽에 금 고리 둘을 만들되 곧 그 양쪽에 만들지니 이는 제단을 메는 채를 꿸 곳이며

출30:5 그 채를 조각목으로 만들고 금으로 싸고

출30:6 그 제단을 증거궤 위 속죄소 맞은편 곧 증거궤 앞에 있는 휘장 밖에 두라 그 속죄소는 내가 너와 만날 곳이며

출30:7 아론이 아침마다 그 위에 향기로운 향을 사르되 등불을 손질할 때에 사를지며

출30:8 또 저녁 때 등불을 켤 때에 사를지니 이 향은 너희가 대대로 여호와 앞에 끊지 못할지며

출30:9 너희는 그 위에 다른 향을 사르지 말며 번제나 소제를 드리지 말며 전제의 술을 붓지 말며

출30:10 아론이 일 년에 한 번씩 이 향단 뿔을 위하여 속죄하되 속죄제의 피로 일 년에 한 번씩 대대로 속죄할지니라 이 제단은 여호와께 지극히 거룩하니라

출30:11 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

출30:12 네가 이스라엘 자손의 수효를 조사할 때 조사 받은 각 사람은 그들을 계수할 때에 자기의 생명의 속전을 여호와께 드릴지니 이는 그것을 계수할 때에 그들 중에 질병이 없게 하려 함이라

출30:13 무릇 계수 중에 드는 자마다 성소의 세겔로 반 세겔을 낼지니 한 세겔은 이십 게라라 그 반 세겔을 여호와께 드릴지며

출30:14 계수 중에 드는 모든 자 곧 스무 살 이상 된 자가 여호와께 드리되

출30:15 너희의 생명을 대속하기 위하여 여호와께 드릴 때에 부자라고 반 세겔에서 더 내지 말고 가난한 자라고 덜 내지 말지며

출30:16 너는 이스라엘 자손에게서 속전을 취하여 회막 봉사에 쓰라 이것이 여호와 앞에서 이스라엘 자손의 기념이 되어서 너희의 생명을 대속하리라

출30:17 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

출30:18 너는 물두멍을 놋으로 만들고 그 받침도 놋으로 만들어 씻게 하되 그것을 회막과 제단 사이에 두고 그 속에 물을 담으라

출30:19 아론과 그의 아들들이 그 구멍에서 수족을 씻되

출30:20 그들이 회막에 들어갈 때에 물로 씻어 죽기를 면할 것이요 제단에 가까이 가서 그 직분을 행하여 여호와 앞에 화제를 사를 때에도 그리 할지니라

출30:21 이와 같이 그들이 그 수족을 씻어 죽기를 면할지니 이는 그와 그의 자손이 대대로 영원히 지킬 규례니라

출30:22 여호와께서 모세에게 또 말씀하여 이르시되

출30:23 너는 상등 향품을 가지되 액체 몰약 오백 세겔과 그 반수의 향기로운 육계 이백오십 세겔과 향기로운 창포 이백오십 세겔과

출30:24 계피 오백 세겔을 성소의 세겔로 하고 감람 기름 한 힌을 가지고

출30:25 그것으로 거룩한 관유를 만들되 향을 제조하는 법대로 향기름을 만들지니 그것이 거룩한 관유가 될지라

출30:26 너는 그것을 회막과 증거궤에 바르고

출30:27 상과 그 모든 기구이며 등잔대와 그 기구이며 분향단과

출30:28 및 번제단과 그 모든 기구와 물두멍과 그 받침에 발라

출30:29 그것들을 지극히 거룩한 것으로 구별하라 이것에 접촉하는 것은 모두 거룩하리라

출30:30 너는 아론과 그의 아들들에게 기름을 발라 그들을 거룩하게 하고 그들이 네게 제사장 직분을 행하게 하고

출30:31 이스라엘 자손에게 말하여 이르기를 이것은 너희 대대로 내게 거룩한 관유니

출30:32 사람의 몸에 붓지 말며 이 방법대로 이와 같은 것을 만들지 말라 이는 거룩하니 너희는 거룩히 여기라

출30:33 이와 같은 것을 만드는 모든 자와 이것을 타인에게 붓는 모든 자는 그 백성 중에서 끊어지리라 하라

출30:34 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 너는 소합향과 나감향과 풍자향의 향품을 가져다가 그 향품을 유향에 섞되 각기 같은 분량으로 하고

출30:35 그것으로 향을 만들되 향 만드는 법대로 만들고 그것에 소금을 쳐서 성결하게 하고

출30:36 그 향 얼마를 곱게 찧어 내가 너와 만날 회막 안 증거궤 앞에 두라 이 향은 너희에게 지극히 거룩하니라

출30:37 네가 여호와를 위하여 만들 향은 거룩한 것이니 너희를 위하여는 그 방법대로 만들지 말라

출30:38 냄새를 맡으려고 이같은 것을 만드는 모든 자는 그 백성 중에서 끊어지리라

요한복음 9 장.

요9:1 예수께서 길을 가실 때에 날 때부터 맹인 된 사람을 보신지라

요9:2 제자들이 물어 이르되 랍비여 이 사람이 맹인으로 난 것이 누구의 죄로 인함이니이까 자기니이까 그의 부모니이까

요9:3 예수께서 대답하시되 이 사람이나 그 부모의 죄로 인한 것이 아니라 그에게서 하나님이 하시는 일을 나타내고자 하심이라

요9:4 때가 아직 낮이매 나를 보내신 이의 일을 우리가 하여야 하리라 밤이 오리니 그 때는 아무도 일할 수 없느니라

요9:5 내가 세상에 있는 동안에는 세상의 빛이로라

요9:6 이 말씀을 하시고 땅에 침을 뱉어 진흙을 이겨 그의 눈에 바르시고

요9:7 이르시되 실로암 못에 가서 씻으라 하시니 (실로암은 번역하면 보냄을 받았다는 뜻이라) 이에 가서 씻고 밝은 눈으로 왔더라

요9:8 이웃 사람들과 전에 그가 걸인인 것을 보았던 사람들이 이르되 이는 앉아서 구걸하던 자가 아니냐

요9:9 어떤 사람은 그 사람이라 하며 어떤 사람은 아니라 그와 비슷하다 하거늘 자기 말은 내가 그라 하니

요9:10 그들이 묻되 그러면 네 눈이 어떻게 떠졌느냐

요9:11 대답하되 예수라 하는 그 사람이 진흙을 이겨 내 눈에 바르고 나더러 실로암에 가서 씻으라 하기에 가서 씻었더니 보게 되었노라

요9:12 그들이 이르되 그가 어디 있느냐 이르되 알지 못하노라 하니라

요9:13 그들이 전에 맹인 되었던 사람을 데리고 바리새인들에게 갔더라

요9:14 예수께서 진흙을 이겨 눈을 뜨게 하신 날은 안식일이라

요9:15 그러므로 바리새인들도 그가 어떻게 보게 되었는지를 물으니 이르되 그 사람이 진흙을 내 눈에 바르매 내가 씻고 보나이다 하니

요9:16 바리새인 중에 어떤 사람은 말하되 이 사람이 안식일을 지키지 아니하니 하나님께로부터 온 자가 아니라 하며 어떤 사람은 말하되 죄인으로서 어떻게 이러한 표적을 행하겠느냐 하여 그들 중에 분쟁이 있었더니

요9:17 이에 맹인 되었던 자에게 다시 묻되 그 사람이 네 눈을 뜨게 하였으니 너는 그를 어떠한 사람이라 하느냐 대답하되 선지자니이다 하니

요9:18 유대인들이 그가 맹인으로 있다가 보게 된 것을 믿지 아니하고 그 부모를 불러 묻되

요9:19 이는 너희 말에 맹인으로 났다 하는 너희 아들이냐 그러면 지금은 어떻게 해서 보느냐

요9:20 그 부모가 대답하여 이르되 이 사람이 우리 아들인 것과 맹인으로 난 것을 아나이다

요9:21 그러나 지금 어떻게 해서 보는지 또는 누가 그 눈을 뜨게 하였는지 우리는 알지 못하나이다 그에게 물어 보소서 그가 장성하였으니 자기 일을 말하리이다

요9:22 그 부모가 이렇게 말한 것은 이미 유대인들이 누구든지 예수를 그리스도로 시인하는 자는 출교하기로 결의하였으므로 그들을 무서워함이러라

요9:23 이러므로 그 부모가 말하기를 그가 장성하였으니 그에게 물어 보소서 하였더라

요9:24 이에 그들이 맹인이었던 사람을 두 번째 불러 이르되 너는 하나님께 영광을 돌리라 우리는 이 사람이 죄인인 줄 아노라

요9:25 대답하되 그가 죄인인지 내가 알지 못하나 한 가지 아는 것은 내가 맹인으로 있다가 지금 보는 그것이니이다

요9:26 그들이 이르되 그 사람이 네게 무엇을 하였느냐 어떻게 네 눈을 뜨게 하였느냐

요9:27 대답하되 내가 이미 일렀어도 듣지 아니하고 어찌하여 다시 듣고자 하나이까 당신들도 그의 제자가 되려 하나이까

요9:28 그들이 욕하여 이르되 너는 그의 제자이나 우리는 모세의 제자라

요9:29 하나님이 모세에게는 말씀하신 줄을 우리가 알거니와 이 사람은 어디서 왔는지 알지 못하노라

요9:30 그 사람이 대답하여 이르되 이상하다 이 사람이 내 눈을 뜨게 하였으되 당신들이 그가 어디서 왔는지 알지 못하는도다

요9:31 하나님이 죄인의 말을 듣지 아니하시고 경건하여 그의 뜻대로 행하는 자의 말은 들으시는 줄을 우리가 아나이다

요9:32 창세 이후로 맹인으로 난 자의 눈을 뜨게 하였다 함을 듣지 못하였으니

요9:33 이 사람이 하나님께로부터 오지 아니하였으면 아무 일도 할 수 없으리이다

요9:34 그들이 대답하여 이르되 네가 온전히 죄 가운데서 나서 우리를 가르치느냐 하고 이에 쫓아 내어 보내니라

요9:35 예수께서 그들이 그 사람을 쫓아냈다 하는 말을 들으셨더니 그를 만나사 이르시되 네가 인자를 믿느냐

요9:36 대답하여 이르되 주여 그가 누구시오니이까 내가 믿고자 하나이다

요9:37 예수께서 이르시되 네가 그를 보았거니와 지금 너와 말하는 자가 그이니라

요9:38 이르되 주여 내가 믿나이다 하고 절하는지라

요9:39 예수께서 이르시되 내가 심판하러 이 세상에 왔으니 보지 못하는 자들은 보게 하고 보는 자들은 맹인 되게 하려 함이라 하시니

요9:40 바리새인 중에 예수와 함께 있던 자들이 이 말씀을 듣고 이르되 우리도 맹인인가

요9:41 예수께서 이르시되 너희가 맹인이 되었더라면 죄가 없으려니와 본다고 하니 너희 죄가 그대로 있느니라

잠언 6 장.

잠6:1 내 아들아 네가 만일 이웃을 위하여 담보하며 타인을 위하여 보증하였으면

잠6:2 네 입의 말로 네가 얽혔으며 네 입의 말로 인하여 잡히게 되었느니라

잠6:3 내 아들아 네가 네 이웃의 손에 빠졌은즉 이같이 하라 너는 곧 가서 겸손히 네 이웃에게 간구하여 스스로 구원하되

잠6:4 네 눈을 잠들게 하지 말며 눈꺼풀을 감기게 하지 말고

잠6:5 노루가 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이, 새가 그물 치는 자의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이 스스로 구원하라

잠6:6 게으른 자여 개미에게 가서 그가 하는 것을 보고 지혜를 얻으라

잠6:7 개미는 두령도 없고 감독자도 없고 통치자도 없으되

잠6:8 먹을 것을 여름 동안에 예비하며 추수 때에 양식을 모으느니라

잠6:9 게으른 자여 네가 어느 때까지 누워 있겠느냐 네가 어느 때에 잠이 깨어 일어나겠느냐

잠6:10 좀더 자자, 좀더 졸자, 손을 모으고 좀더 누워 있자 하면

잠6:11 네 빈궁이 강도 같이 오며 네 곤핍이 군사 같이 이르리라

잠6:12 불량하고 악한 자는 구부러진 말을 하고 다니며

잠6:13 눈짓을 하며 발로 뜻을 보이며 손가락질을 하며

잠6:14 그의 마음에 패역을 품으며 항상 악을 꾀하여 다툼을 일으키는 자라

잠6:15 그러므로 그의 재앙이 갑자기 내려 당장에 멸망하여 살릴 길이 없으리라

잠6:16 여호와께서 미워하시는 것 곧 그의 마음에 싫어하시는 것이 예닐곱 가지이니

잠6:17 곧 교만한 눈과 거짓된 혀와 무죄한 자의 피를 흘리는 손과

잠6:18 악한 계교를 꾀하는 마음과 빨리 악으로 달려가는 발과

잠6:19 거짓을 말하는 망령된 증인과 및 형제 사이를 이간하는 자이니라

잠6:20 내 아들아 네 아비의 명령을 지키며 네 어미의 법을 떠나지 말고

잠6:21 그것을 항상 네 마음에 새기며 네 목에 매라

잠6:22 그것이 네가 다닐 때에 너를 인도하며 네가 잘 때에 너를 보호하며 네가 깰 때에 너와 더불어 말하리니

잠6:23 대저 명령은 등불이요 법은 빛이요 훈계의 책망은 곧 생명의 길이라

잠6:24 이것이 너를 지켜 악한 여인에게, 이방 여인의 혀로 호리는 말에 빠지지 않게 하리라

잠6:25 네 마음에 그의 아름다움을 탐하지 말며 그 눈꺼풀에 홀리지 말라

잠6:26 음녀로 말미암아 사람이 한 조각 떡만 남게 됨이며 음란한 여인은 귀한 생명을 사냥함이니라

잠6:27 사람이 불을 품에 품고서야 어찌 그의 옷이 타지 아니하겠으며

잠6:28 사람이 숯불을 밟고서야 어찌 그의 발이 데지 아니하겠느냐

잠6:29 남의 아내와 통간하는 자도 이와 같을 것이라 그를 만지는 자마다 벌을 면하지 못하리라

잠6:30 도둑이 만일 주릴 때에 배를 채우려고 도둑질하면 사람이 그를 멸시하지 아니하려니와

잠6:31 들키면 칠 배를 갚아야 하리니 심지어 자기 집에 있는 것을 다 내주게 되리라

잠6:32 여인과 간음하는 자는 무지한 자라 이것을 행하는 자는 자기의 영혼을 망하게 하며

잠6:33 상함과 능욕을 받고 부끄러움을 씻을 수 없게 되나니

잠6:34 남편이 투기로 분노하여 원수 갚는 날에 용서하지 아니하고

잠6:35 어떤 보상도 받지 아니하며 많은 선물을 줄지라도 듣지 아니 하리라

갈라디아서 5 장.

갈5:1 그리스도께서 우리를 자유롭게 하려고 자유를 주셨으니 그러므로 굳건하게 서서 다시는 종의 멍에를 메지 말라

갈5:2 보라 나 바울은 너희에게 말하노니 너희가 만일 할례를 받으면 그리스도께서 너희에게 아무 유익이 없으리라

갈5:3 내가 할례를 받는 각 사람에게 다시 증언하노니 그는 율법 전체를 행할 의무를 가진 자라

갈5:4 율법 안에서 의롭다 함을 얻으려 하는 너희는 그리스도에게서 끊어지고 은혜에서 떨어진 자로다

갈5:5 우리가 성령으로 믿음을 따라 의의 소망을 기다리노니

갈5:6 그리스도 예수 안에서는 할례나 무할례나 효력이 없으되 사랑으로써 역사하는 믿음뿐이니라

갈5:7 너희가 달음질을 잘하더니 누가 너희를 막아 진리를 순종하지 못하게 하더냐

갈5:8 그 권면은 너희를 부르신 이에게서 난 것이 아니니라

갈5:9 적은 누룩이 온 덩이에 퍼지느니라

갈5:10 나는 너희가 아무 다른 마음을 품지 아니할 줄을 주 안에서 확신하노라 그러나 너희를 요동하게 하는 자는 누구든지 심판을 받으리라

갈5:11 형제들아 내가 지금까지 할례를 전한다면 어찌하여 지금까지 박해를 받으리요 그리하였으면 십자가의 걸림돌이 제거되었으리니

갈5:12 너희를 어지럽게 하는 자들은 스스로 베어 버리기를 원하노라

갈5:13 형제들아 너희가 자유를 위하여 부르심을 입었으나 그러나 그 자유로 육체의 기회를 삼지 말고 오직 사랑으로 서로 종 노릇 하라

갈5:14 온 율법은 네 이웃 사랑하기를 네 자신 같이 하라 하신 한 말씀에서 이루어졌나니

갈5:15 만일 서로 물고 먹으면 피차 멸망할까 조심하라

갈5:16 내가 이르노니 너희는 성령을 따라 행하라 그리하면 육체의 욕심을 이루지 아니하리라

갈5:17 육체의 소욕은 성령을 거스르고 성령은 육체를 거스르나니 이 둘이 서로 대적함으로 너희가 원하는 것을 하지 못하게 하려 함이니라

갈5:18 너희가 만일 성령의 인도하시는 바가 되면 율법 아래에 있지 아니하리라

갈5:19 육체의 일은 분명하니 곧 음행과 더러운 것과 호색과

갈5:20 우상 숭배와 주술과 원수 맺는 것과 분쟁과 시기와 분냄과 당 짓는 것과 분열함과 이단과

갈5:21 투기와 술 취함과 방탕함과 또 그와 같은 것들이라 전에 너희에게 경계한 것 같이 경계하노니 이런 일을 하는 자들은 하나님의 나라를 유업으로 받지 못할 것이요

갈5:22 오직 성령의 열매는 사랑과 희락과 화평과 오래 참음과 자비와 양선과 충성과

갈5:23 온유와 절제니 이같은 것을 금지할 법이 없느니라

갈5:24 그리스도 예수의 사람들은 육체와 함께 그 정욕과 탐심을 십자가에 못 박았느니라

갈5:25 만일 우리가 성령으로 살면 또한 성령으로 행할지니

갈5:26 헛된 영광을 구하여 서로 노엽게 하거나 서로 투기하지 말지니라

Exodus 30.

30:1 "Make an altar of acacia wood for burning incense.

30:2 It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high--its horns of one piece with it.

30:3 Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it.

30:4 Make two gold rings for the altar below the molding--two on opposite sides--to hold the poles used to carry it.

30:5 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

30:6 Put the altar in front of the curtain that is before the ark of the Testimony--before the atonement cover that is over the Testimony--where I will meet with you.

30:7 "Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps.

30:8 He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the LORD for the generations to come.

30:9 Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it.

30:10 Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the LORD."

30:11 Then the LORD said to Moses,

30:12 "When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the LORD a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.

30:13 Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the LORD.

30:14 All who cross over, those twenty years old or more, are to give an offering to the LORD.

30:15 The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives.

30:16 Receive the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, making atonement for your lives."

30:17 Then the LORD said to Moses,

30:18 "Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it.

30:19 Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it.

30:20 Whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting an offering made to the LORD by fire,

30:21 they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come."

30:22 Then the LORD said to Moses,

30:23 "Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant cane,

30:24 500 shekels of cassia--all according to the sanctuary shekel--and a hin of olive oil.

30:25 Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil.

30:26 Then use it to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony,

30:27 the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense,

30:28 the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand.

30:29 You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy.

30:30 "Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.

30:31 Say to the Israelites, 'This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come.

30:32 Do not pour it on men's bodies and do not make any oil with the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred.

30:33 Whoever makes perfume like it and whoever puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from his people.'"

30:34 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take fragrant spices--gum resin, onycha and galbanum--and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts,

30:35 and make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred.

30:36 Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you.

30:37 Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the LORD.

30:38 Whoever makes any like it to enjoy its fragrance must be cut off from his people."

John 9.

9:1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth.

9:2 His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

9:3 "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.

9:4 As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.

9:5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

9:6 Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes.

9:7 "Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

9:8 His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, "Isn't this the same man who used to sit and beg?"

9:9 Some claimed that he was. Others said, "No, he only looks like him." But he himself insisted, "I am the man."

9:10 "How then were your eyes opened?" they demanded.

9:11 He replied, "The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see."

9:12 "Where is this man?" they asked him. "I don't know," he said.

9:13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind.

9:14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man's eyes was a Sabbath.

9:15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. "He put mud on my eyes," the man replied, "and I washed, and now I see."

9:16 Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others asked, "How can a sinner do such miraculous signs?" So they were divided.

9:17 Finally they turned again to the blind man, "What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened." The man replied, "He is a prophet."

9:18 The Jews still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man's parents.

9:19 "Is this your son?" they asked. "Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?"

9:20 "We know he is our son," the parents answered, "and we know he was born blind.

9:21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don't know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself."

9:22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, for already the Jews had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Christ would be put out of the synagogue.

9:23 That was why his parents said, "He is of age; ask him."

9:24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. "Give glory to God," they said. "We know this man is a sinner."

9:25 He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"

9:26 Then they asked him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"

9:27 He answered, "I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples, too?"

9:28 Then they hurled insults at him and said, "You are this fellow's disciple! We are disciples of Moses!

9:29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don't even know where he comes from."

9:30 The man answered, "Now that is remarkable! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

9:31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.

9:32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind.

9:33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."

9:34 To this they replied, "You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!" And they threw him out.

9:35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?"

9:36 "Who is he, sir?" the man asked. "Tell me so that I may believe in him."

9:37 Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."

9:38 Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.

9:39 Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind."

9:40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, "What? Are we blind too?"

9:41 Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

Proverbs 6.

6:1 My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have struck hands in pledge for another,

6:2 if you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth,

6:3 then do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor's hands: Go and humble yourself; press your plea with your neighbor!

6:4 Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids.

6:5 Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

6:6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!

6:7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,

6:8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

6:9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?

6:10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest--

6:11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.

6:12 A scoundrel and villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth,

6:13 who winks with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers,

6:14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart--he always stirs up dissension.

6:15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed--without remedy.

6:16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:

6:17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

6:18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,

6:19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

6:20 My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

6:21 Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck.

6:22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.

6:23 For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life,

6:24 keeping you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.

6:25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes,

6:26 for the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread, and the adulteress preys upon your very life.

6:27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?

6:28 Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?

6:29 So is he who sleeps with another man's wife; no one who touches her will go unpunished.

6:30 Men do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.

6:31 Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house.

6:32 But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.

6:33 Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away;

6:34 for jealousy arouses a husband's fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.

6:35 He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse the bribe, however great it is.

Galatians 5.

5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

5:2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.

5:3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.

5:4 You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

5:5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope.

5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

5:7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?

5:8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.

5:9 "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough."

5:10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.

5:11 Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.

5:12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!

5:13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.

5:14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

5:15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

5:17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

5:20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

5:21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

5:23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.

5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
