출애굽기 9 장.

출9:1 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 바로에게 들어가서 그에게 이르라 히브리 사람의 하나님 여호와께서 말씀하시기를 내 백성을 보내라 그들이 나를 섬길 것이니라

출9:2 네가 만일 보내기를 거절하고 억지로 잡아두면

출9:3 여호와의 손이 들에 있는 네 가축 곧 말과 나귀와 낙타와 소와 양에게 더하리니 심한 돌림병이 있을 것이며

출9:4 여호와가 이스라엘의 가축과 애굽의 가축을 구별하리니 이스라엘 자손에게 속한 것은 하나도 죽지 아니하리라 하셨다 하라 하시고

출9:5 여호와께서 기한을 정하여 이르시되 여호와가 내일 이 땅에서 이 일을 행하리라 하시더니

출9:6 이튿날에 여호와께서 이 일을 행하시니 애굽의 모든 가축은 죽었으나 이스라엘 자손의 가축은 하나도 죽지 아니한지라

출9:7 바로가 사람을 보내어 본즉 이스라엘의 가축은 하나도 죽지 아니하였더라 그러나 바로의 마음이 완강하여 백성을 보내지 아니한지라

출9:8 여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 이르시되 너희는 화덕의 재 두 움큼을 가지고 모세가 바로의 목전에서 하늘을 향하여 날리라

출9:9 그 재가 애굽 온 땅의 티끌이 되어 애굽 온 땅의 사람과 짐승에게 붙어서 악성 종기가 생기리라

출9:10 그들이 화덕의 재를 가지고 바로 앞에 서서 모세가 하늘을 향하여 날리니 사람과 짐승에게 붙어 악성 종기가 생기고

출9:11 요술사들도 악성 종기로 말미암아 모세 앞에 서지 못하니 악성 종기가 요술사들로부터 애굽 모든 사람에게 생겼음이라

출9:12 그러나 여호와께서 바로의 마음을 완악하게 하셨으므로 그들의 말을 듣지 아니하였으니 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하심과 같더라

출9:13 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 아침에 일찍이 일어나 바로 앞에 서서 그에게 이르기를 히브리 사람의 하나님 여호와의 말씀에 내 백성을 보내라 그들이 나를 섬길 것이니라

출9:14 내가 이번에는 모든 재앙을 너와 네 신하와 네 백성에게 내려 온 천하에 나와 같은 자가 없음을 네가 알게 하리라

출9:15 내가 손을 펴서 돌림병으로 너와 네 백성을 쳤더라면 네가 세상에서 끊어졌을 것이나

출9:16 내가 너를 세웠음은 나의 능력을 네게 보이고 내 이름이 온 천하에 전파되게 하려 하였음이니라

출9:17 네가 여전히 내 백성 앞에 교만하여 그들을 보내지 아니하느냐

출9:18 내일 이맘때면 내가 무거운 우박을 내리리니 애굽 나라가 세워진 그 날로부터 지금까지 그와 같은 일이 없었더라

출9:19 이제 사람을 보내어 네 가축과 네 들에 있는 것을 다 모으라 사람이나 짐승이나 무릇 들에 있어서 집에 돌아오지 않는 것들에게는 우박이 그 위에 내리리니 그것들이 죽으리라 하셨다 하라 하시니라

출9:20 바로의 신하 중에 여호와의 말씀을 두려워하는 자들은 그 종들과 가축을 집으로 피하여 들였으나

출9:21 여호와의 말씀을 마음에 두지 아니하는 사람은 그의 종들과 가축을 들에 그대로 두었더라

출9:22 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 너는 하늘을 향하여 손을 들어 애굽 전국에 우박이 애굽 땅의 사람과 짐승과 밭의 모든 채소에 내리게 하라

출9:23 모세가 하늘을 향하여 지팡이를 들매 여호와께서 우렛소리와 우박을 보내시고 불을 내려 땅에 달리게 하시니라 여호와께서 우박을 애굽 땅에 내리시매

출9:24 우박이 내림과 불덩이가 우박에 섞여 내림이 심히 맹렬하니 나라가 생긴 그 때로부터 애굽 온 땅에는 그와 같은 일이 없었더라

출9:25 우박이 애굽 온 땅에서 사람과 짐승을 막론하고 밭에 있는 모든 것을 쳤으며 우박이 또 밭의 모든 채소를 치고 들의 모든 나무를 꺾었으되

출9:26 이스라엘 자손들이 있는 그 곳 고센 땅에는 우박이 없었더라

출9:27 바로가 사람을 보내어 모세와 아론을 불러 그들에게 이르되 이번은 내가 범죄하였노라 여호와는 의로우시고 나와 나의 백성은 악하도다

출9:28 여호와께 구하여 이 우렛소리와 우박을 그만 그치게 하라 내가 너희를 보내리니 너희가 다시는 머물지 아니하리라

출9:29 모세가 그에게 이르되 내가 성에서 나가서 곧 내 손을 여호와를 향하여 펴리니 그리하면 우렛소리가 그치고 우박이 다시 있지 아니할지라 세상이 여호와께 속한 줄을 왕이 알리이다

출9:30 그러나 왕과 왕의 신하들이 여호와 하나님을 아직도 두려워하지 아니할 줄을 내가 아나이다

출9:31 그 때에 보리는 이삭이 나왔고 삼은 꽃이 피었으므로 삼과 보리가 상하였으나

출9:32 그러나 밀과 쌀보리는 자라지 아니한 고로 상하지 아니하였더라

출9:33 모세가 바로를 떠나 성에서 나가 여호와를 향하여 손을 펴매 우렛소리와 우박이 그치고 비가 땅에 내리지 아니하리라

출9:34 바로가 비와 우박과 우렛소리가 그친 것을 보고 다시 범죄하여 마음을 완악하게 하니 그와 그의 신하가 꼭 같더라

출9:35 바로의 마음이 완악하여 이스라엘 자손을 내보내지 아니하였으니 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하심과 같더라

누가복음 12 장.

눅12:1 그 동안에 무리 수만 명이 모여 서로 밟힐 만큼 되었더니 예수께서 먼저 제자들에게 말씀하여 이르시되 바리새인들의 누룩 곧 외식을 주의하라

눅12:2 감추인 것이 드러나지 않을 것이 없고 숨긴 것이 알려지지 않을 것이 없나니

눅12:3 이러므로 너희가 어두운 데서 말한 모든 것이 광명한 데서 들리고 너희가 골방에서 귀에 대고 말한 것이 지붕 위에서 전파되리라

눅12:4 내가 내 친구 너희에게 말하노니 몸을 죽이고 그 후에는 능히 더 못하는 자들을 두려워하지 말라

눅12:5 마땅히 두려워할 자를 내가 너희에게 보이리니 곧 죽인 후에 또한 지옥에 던져 넣는 권세 있는 그를 두려워하라 내가 참으로 너희에게 이르노니 그를 두려워하라

눅12:6 참새 다섯 마리가 두 앗사리온에 팔리는 것이 아니냐 그러나 하나님 앞에는 그 하나도 잊어버리시는 바 되지 아니하는도다

눅12:7 너희에게는 심지어 머리털까지도 다 세신 바 되었나니 두려워하지 말라 너희는 많은 참새보다 더 귀하니라

눅12:8 내가 또한 너희에게 말하노니 누구든지 사람 앞에서 나를 시인하면 인자도 하나님의 사자들 앞에서 그를 시인할 것이요

눅12:9 사람 앞에서 나를 부인하는 자는 하나님의 사자들 앞에서 부인을 당하리라

눅12:10 누구든지 말로 인자를 거역하면 사하심을 받으려니와 성령을 모독하는 자는 사하심을 받지 못하리라

눅12:11 사람이 너희를 회당이나 위정자나 권세 있는 자 앞에 끌고 가거든 어떻게 무엇으로 대답하며 무엇으로 말할까 염려하지 말라

눅12:12 마땅히 할 말을 성령이 곧 그 때에 너희에게 가르치시리라 하시니라

눅12:13 무리 중에 한 사람이 이르되 선생님 내 형을 명하여 유산을 나와 나누게 하소서 하니

눅12:14 이르시되 이 사람아 누가 나를 너희의 재판장이나 물건 나누는 자로 세웠느냐 하시고

눅12:15 그들에게 이르시되 삼가 모든 탐심을 물리치라 사람의 생명이 그 소유의 넉넉한 데 있지 아니하니라 하시고

눅12:16 또 비유로 그들에게 말하여 이르시되 한 부자가 그 밭에 소출이 풍성하매

눅12:17 심중에 생각하여 이르되 내가 곡식 쌓아 둘 곳이 없으니 어찌할까 하고

눅12:18 또 이르되 내가 이렇게 하리라 내 곳간을 헐고 더 크게 짓고 내 모든 곡식과 물건을 거기 쌓아 두리라

눅12:19 또 내가 내 영혼에게 이르되 영혼아 여러 해 쓸 물건을 많이 쌓아 두었으니 평안히 쉬고 먹고 마시고 즐거워하자 하리라 하되

눅12:20 하나님은 이르시되 어리석은 자여 오늘 밤에 네 영혼을 도로 찾으리니 그러면 네 준비한 것이 누구의 것이 되겠느냐 하셨으니

눅12:21 자기를 위하여 재물을 쌓아 두고 하나님께 대하여 부요하지 못한 자가 이와 같으니라

눅12:22 또 제자들에게 이르시되 그러므로 내가 너희에게 이르노니 너희 목숨을 위하여 무엇을 먹을까 몸을 위하여 무엇을 입을까 염려하지 말라

눅12:23 목숨이 음식보다 중하고 몸이 의복보다 중하니라

눅12:24 까마귀를 생각하라 심지도 아니하고 거두지도 아니하며 골방도 없고 창고도 없으되 하나님이 기르시나니 너희는 새보다 얼마나 더 귀하냐

눅12:25 또 너희 중에 누가 염려함으로 그 키를 한 자라도 더할 수 있느냐

눅12:26 그런즉 가장 작은 일도 하지 못하면서 어찌 다른 일들을 염려하느냐

눅12:27 백합화를 생각하여 보아라 실도 만들지 않고 짜지도 아니하느니라 그러나 내가 너희에게 말하노니 솔로몬의 모든 영광으로도 입은 것이 이 꽃 하나만큼 훌륭하지 못하였느니라

눅12:28 오늘 있다가 내일 아궁이에 던져지는 들풀도 하나님이 이렇게 입히시거든 하물며 너희일까보냐 믿음이 작은 자들아

눅12:29 너희는 무엇을 먹을까 무엇을 마실까 하여 구하지 말며 근심하지도 말라

눅12:30 이 모든 것은 세상 백성들이 구하는 것이라 너희 아버지께서는 이런 것이 너희에게 있어야 할 것을 아시느니라

눅12:31 다만 너희는 그의 나라를 구하라 그리하면 이런 것들을 너희에게 더하시리라

눅12:32 적은 무리여 무서워 말라 너희 아버지께서 그 나라를 너희에게 주시기를 기뻐하시느니라

눅12:33 너희 소유를 팔아 구제하여 낡아지지 아니하는 배낭을 만들라 곧 하늘에 둔 바 다함이 없는 보물이니 거기는 도둑도 가까이 하는 일이 없고 좀도 먹는 일이 없느니라

눅12:34 너희 보물 있는 곳에는 너희 마음도 있으리라

눅12:35 허리에 띠를 띠고 등불을 켜고 서 있으라

눅12:36 너희는 마치 그 주인이 혼인 집에서 돌아와 문을 두드리면 곧 열어 주려고 기다리는 사람과 같이 되라

눅12:37 주인이 와서 깨어 있는 것을 보면 그 종들은 복이 있으리로다 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 주인이 띠를 띠고 그 종들을 자리에 앉히고 나아와 수종들리라

눅12:38 주인이 혹 이경에나 혹 삼경에 이르러서도 종들이 그같이 하고 있는 것을 보면 그 종들은 복이 있으리로다

눅12:39 너희도 아는 바니 집 주인이 만일 도둑이 어느 때에 이를 줄 알았더라면 그 집을 뚫지 못하게 하였으리라

눅12:40 그러므로 너희도 준비하고 있으라 생각하지 않은 때에 인자가 오리라 하시니라

눅12:41 베드로가 여짜오되 주께서 이 비유를 우리에게 하심이니이까 모든 사람에게 하심이니이까

눅12:42 주께서 이르시되 지혜 있고 진실한 청지기가 되어 주인에게 그 집 종들을 맡아 때를 따라 양식을 나누어 줄 자가 누구냐

눅12:43 주인이 이를 때에 그 종이 그렇게 하는 것을 보면 그 종은 복이 있으리로다

눅12:44 내가 참으로 너희에게 이르노니 주인이 그 모든 소유를 그에게 맡기리라

눅12:45 만일 그 종이 마음에 생각하기를 주인이 더디 오리라 하여 남녀 종들을 때리며 먹고 마시고 취하게 되면

눅12:46 생각하지 않은 날 알지 못하는 시간에 그 종의 주인이 이르러 엄히 때리고 신실하지 아니한 자의 받는 벌에 처하리니

눅12:47 주인의 뜻을 알고도 준비하지 아니하고 그 뜻대로 행하지 아니한 종은 많이 맞을 것이요

눅12:48 알지 못하고 맞을 일을 행한 종은 적게 맞으리라 무릇 많이 받은 자에게는 많이 요구할 것이요 많이 맡은 자에게는 많이 달라 할 것이니라

눅12:49 내가 불을 땅에 던지러 왔노니 이 불이 이미 붙었으면 내가 무엇을 원하리요

눅12:50 나는 받을 세례가 있으니 그것이 이루어지기까지 나의 답답함이 어떠하겠느냐

눅12:51 내가 세상에 화평을 주려고 온 줄로 아느냐 내가 너희에게 이르노니 아니라 도리어 분쟁하게 하려 함이로라

눅12:52 이후부터 한 집에 다섯 사람이 있어 분쟁하되 셋이 둘과, 둘이 셋과 하리니

눅12:53 아버지가 아들과, 아들이 아버지와, 어머니가 딸과, 딸이 어머니와, 시어머니가 며느리와, 며느리가 시어머니와 분쟁하리라 하시니라

눅12:54 또 무리에게 이르시되 너희가 구름이 서쪽에서 이는 것을 보면 곧 말하기를 소나기가 오리라 하나니 과연 그러하고

눅12:55 남풍이 부는 것을 보면 말하기를 심히 더우리라 하나니 과연 그러하니라

눅12:56 외식하는 자여 너희가 천지의 기상은 분간할 줄을 알면서 어찌 이 시대는 분간하지 못하느냐

눅12:57 또 어찌하여 옳은 것을 스스로 판단하지 아니하느냐

눅12:58 네가 너를 고발하는 자와 함께 법관에게 갈 때에 길에서 화해하기를 힘쓰라 그가 너를 재판장에게 끌어 가고 재판장이 너를 옥졸에게 넘겨 주어 옥졸이 옥에 가둘까 염려하라

눅12:59 네게 이르노니 한 푼이라도 남김이 없이 갚지 아니하고서는 결코 거기서 나오지 못하리라 하시니라

욥기 27 장.

욥27:1 욥이 또 풍자하여 이르되

욥27:2 나의 정당함을 물리치신 하나님, 나의 영혼을 괴롭게 하신 전능자의 사심을 두고 맹세하노니

욥27:3 (나의 호흡이 아직 내 속에 완전히 있고 하나님의 숨결이 아직도 내 코에 있느니라)

욥27:4 결코 내 입술이 불의를 말하지 아니하며 내 혀가 거짓을 말하지 아니하리라

욥27:5 나는 결코 너희를 옳다 하지 아니하겠고 내가 죽기 전에는 나의 온전함을 버리지 아니할 것이라

욥27:6 내가 내 공의를 굳게 잡고 놓지 아니하리니 내 마음이 나의 생애를 비웃지 아니하리라

욥27:7 나의 원수는 악인 같이 되고 일어나 나를 치는 자는 불의한 자 같이 되기를 원하노라

욥27:8 불경건한 자가 이익을 얻었으나 하나님이 그의 영혼을 거두실 때에는 무슨 희망이 있으랴

욥27:9 환난이 그에게 닥칠 때에 하나님이 어찌 그의 부르짖음을 들으시랴

욥27:10 그가 어찌 전능자를 기뻐하겠느냐 항상 하나님께 부르짖겠느냐

욥27:11 하나님의 솜씨를 내가 너희에게 가르칠 것이요 전능자에게 있는 것을 내가 숨기지 아니하리라

욥27:12 너희가 다 이것을 보았거늘 어찌하여 그토록 무익한 사람이 되었는고

욥27:13 악인이 하나님께 얻을 분깃, 포악자가 전능자에게서 받을 산업은 이것이라

욥27:14 그의 자손은 번성하여도 칼을 위함이요 그의 후손은 음식물로 배부르지 못할 것이며

욥27:15 그 남은 자들은 죽음의 병이 돌 때에 묻히리니 그들의 과부들이 울지 못할 것이며

욥27:16 그가 비록 은을 티끌 같이 쌓고 의복을 진흙 같이 준비할지라도

욥27:17 그가 준비한 것을 의인이 입을 것이요 그의 은은 죄없는 자가 차지할 것이며

욥27:18 그가 지은 집은 좀의 집 같고 파수꾼의 초막 같을 것이며

욥27:19 부자로 누우려니와 다시는 그렇지 못할 것이요 눈을 뜬즉 아무것도 없으리라

욥27:20 두려움이 물 같이 그에게 닥칠 것이요 폭풍이 밤에 그를 앗아갈 것이며

욥27:21 동풍이 그를 들어올리리니 그는 사라질 것이며 그의 처소에서 그를 몰아내리라

욥27:22 하나님은 그를 아끼지 아니하시고 던져 버릴 것이니 그의 손에서 도망치려고 힘쓰리라

욥27:23 사람들은 그를 바라보며 손뼉치고 그의 처소에서 그를 비웃으리라

고린도전서 13 장.

고전13:1 내가 사람의 방언과 천사의 말을 할지라도 사랑이 없으면 소리나는 구리와 울리는 꽹과리가 되고

고전13:2 내가 예언하는 능력이 있어 모든 비밀과 모든 지식을 알고 또 산을 옮길 만한 모든 믿음이 있을지라도 사랑이 없으면 내가 아무 것도 아니요

고전13:3 내가 내게 있는 모든 것으로 구제하고 또 내 몸을 불사르게 내어 줄지라도 사랑이 없으면 내게 아무 유익이 없느니라

고전13:4 사랑은 오래 참고 사랑은 온유하며 시기하지 아니하며 사랑은 자랑하지 아니하며 교만하지 아니하며

고전13:5 무례히 행하지 아니하며 자기의 유익을 구하지 아니하며 성내지 아니하며 악한 것을 생각하지 아니하며

고전13:6 불의를 기뻐하지 아니하며 진리와 함께 기뻐하고

고전13:7 모든 것을 참으며 모든 것을 믿으며 모든 것을 바라며 모든 것을 견디느니라

고전13:8 사랑은 언제까지나 떨어지지 아니하되 예언도 폐하고 방언도 그치고 지식도 폐하리라

고전13:9 우리가 부분적으로 알고 부분적으로 예언하니

고전13:10 온전한 것이 올 때에는 부분적으로 하던 것이 폐하리라

고전13:11 내가 어렸을 때에는 말하는 것이 어린 아이와 같고 깨닫는 것이 어린 아이와 같고 생각하는 것이 어린 아이와 같다가 장성한 사람이 되어서는 어린 아이의 일을 버렸노라

고전13:12 우리가 지금은 거울로 보는 것 같이 희미하나 그 때에는 얼굴과 얼굴을 대하여 볼 것이요 지금은 내가 부분적으로 아나 그 때에는 주께서 나를 아신 것 같이 내가 온전히 알리라

고전13:13 그런즉 믿음, 소망, 사랑 이 세가지는 항상 있을 것인데 그 중의 제일은 사랑이라

Exodus 9.

9:1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, so that they may worship me."

9:2 If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back,

9:3 the hand of the LORD will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field--on your horses and donkeys and camels and on your cattle and sheep and goats.

9:4 But the LORD will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.'"

9:5 The LORD set a time and said, "Tomorrow the LORD will do this in the land."

9:6 And the next day the LORD did it: All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.

9:7 Pharaoh sent men to investigate and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go.

9:8 Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh.

9:9 It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on men and animals throughout the land."

9:10 So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on men and animals.

9:11 The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians.

9:12 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses.

9:13 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me,

9:14 or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth.

9:15 For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth.

9:16 But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

9:17 You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go.

9:18 Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now.

9:19 Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every man and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.'"

9:20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the LORD hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside.

9:21 But those who ignored the word of the LORD left their slaves and livestock in the field.

9:22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt--on men and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt."

9:23 When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt;

9:24 hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.

9:25 Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields--both men and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree.

9:26 The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were.

9:27 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. "This time I have sinned," he said to them. "The LORD is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong.

9:28 Pray to the LORD, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don't have to stay any longer."

9:29 Moses replied, "When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the LORD. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the LORD'S.

9:30 But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the LORD God."

9:31 (The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom.

9:32 The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)

9:33 Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands toward the LORD; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land.

9:34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts.

9:35 So Pharaoh's heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the LORD had said through Moses.

Luke 12.

12:1 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

12:2 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.

12:3 What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.

12:4 "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.

12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

12:7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

12:8 "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God.

12:9 But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God.

12:10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

12:11 "When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say,

12:12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."

12:13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."

12:14 Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?"

12:15 Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

12:16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop.

12:17 He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'

12:18 "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.

12:19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."'

12:20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

12:21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

12:22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.

12:23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.

12:24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!

12:25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

12:26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

12:27 "Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

12:28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!

12:29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.

12:30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.

12:31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

12:32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

12:33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

12:34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

12:35 "Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning,

12:36 like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.

12:37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.

12:38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night.

12:39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.

12:40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."

12:41 Peter asked, "Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?"

12:42 The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time?

12:43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.

12:44 I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

12:45 But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk.

12:46 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

12:47 "That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows.

12:48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

12:49 "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

12:50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is completed!

12:51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.

12:52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three.

12:53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

12:54 He said to the crowd: "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, 'It's going to rain,' and it does.

12:55 And when the south wind blows, you say, 'It's going to be hot,' and it is.

12:56 Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don't know how to interpret this present time?

12:57 "Why don't you judge for yourselves what is right?

12:58 As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled to him on the way, or he may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.

12:59 I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny."

Job 27.

27:1 And Job continued his discourse:

27:2 "As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made me taste bitterness of soul,

27:3 as long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils,

27:4 my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will utter no deceit.

27:5 I will never admit you are in the right; till I die, I will not deny my integrity.

27:6 I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.

27:7 "May my enemies be like the wicked, my adversaries like the unjust!

27:8 For what hope has the godless when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?

27:9 Does God listen to his cry when distress comes upon him?

27:10 Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?

27:11 "I will teach you about the power of God; the ways of the Almighty I will not conceal.

27:12 You have all seen this yourselves. Why then this meaningless talk?

27:13 "Here is the fate God allots to the wicked, the heritage a ruthless man receives from the Almighty:

27:14 However many his children, their fate is the sword; his offspring will never have enough to eat.

27:15 The plague will bury those who survive him, and their widows will not weep for them.

27:16 Though he heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay,

27:17 what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver.

27:18 The house he builds is like a moth's cocoon, like a hut made by a watchman.

27:19 He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone.

27:20 Terrors overtake him like a flood; a tempest snatches him away in the night.

27:21 The east wind carries him off, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.

27:22 It hurls itself against him without mercy as he flees headlong from its power.

27:23 It claps its hands in derision and hisses him out of his place.

1 Corinthians 13.

13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

13:2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

13:3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

13:5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

13:6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

13:7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

13:9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

13:10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

13:12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
