창세기 31 장.

창31:1 야곱이 라반의 아들들이 하는 말을 들은즉 야곱이 우리 아버지의 소유를 다 빼앗고 우리 아버지의 소유로 말미암아 이 모든 재물을 모았다 하는지라

창31:2 야곱이 라반의 안색을 본즉 자기에게 대하여 전과 같지 아니하더라

창31:3 여호와께서 야곱에게 이르시되 네 조상의 땅 네 족속에게로 돌아가라 내가 너와 함께 있으리라 하신지라

창31:4 야곱이 사람을 보내어 라헬과 레아를 자기 양 떼가 있는 들로 불러다가

창31:5 그들에게 이르되 내가 그대들의 아버지의 안색을 본즉 내게 대하여 전과 같지 아니하도다 그러할 지라도 내 아버지의 하나님은 나와 함께 계셨느니라

창31:6 그대들도 알거니와 내가 힘을 다하여 그대들의 아버지를 섬겼거늘

창31:7 그대들의 아버지가 나를 속여 품삯을 열 번이나 변경하였느니라 그러나 하나님이 그를 막으사 나를 해치지 못하게 하셨으며

창31:8 그가 이르기를 점 있는 것이 네 삯이 되리라 하면 온 양 떼가 낳은 것이 점 있는 것이요 또 얼룩무늬 있는 것이 네 삯이 되리라 하면 온 양 떼가 낳은 것이 얼룩무늬 있는 것이니

창31:9 하나님이 이같이 그대들의 아버지의 가축을 빼앗아 내게 주셨느니라

창31:10 그 양 떼가 새끼 밸 때에 내가 꿈에 눈을 들어보니 양 떼를 탄 숫양은 다 얼룩무늬 있는 것과 점 있는 것과 아롱진 것이었더라

창31:11 꿈에 하나님의 사자가 내게 말씀하시기를 야곱아 하기로 내가 대답하기를 여기 있나이다 하매

창31:12 이르시되 네 눈을 들어 보라 양 떼를 탄 숫양은 다 얼룩무늬 있는 것, 점 있는 것과 아롱진 것이니라 라반이 네게 행한 모든 것을 내가 보았노라

창31:13 나는 벧엘의 하나님이라 네가 거기서 기둥에 기름을 붓고 거기서 내게 서원하였으니 지금 일어나 이 곳을 떠나서 네 출생지로 돌아가라 하셨느니라

창31:14 라헬과 레아가 그에게 대답하여 이르되 우리가 우리 아버지 집에서 무슨 분깃이나 유산이 있으리요

창31:15 아버지가 우리를 팔고 우리의 돈을 다 먹어버렸으니 아버지가 우리를 외국인처럼 여기는 것이 아닌가

창31:16 하나님이 우리 아버지에게서 취하여 가신 재물은 우리와 우리 자식의 것이니 이제 하나님이 당신에게 이르신 일을 다 준행하라

창31:17 야곱이 일어나 자식들과 아내들을 낙타들에게 태우고

창31:18 그 모은 바 모든 가축과 모든 소유물 곧 그가 밧단아람에서 모은 가축을 이끌고 가나안 땅에 있는 그의 아버지 이삭에게로 가려 할새

창31:19 그 때에 라반이 양털을 깎으러 갔으므로 라헬은 그의 아버지의 드라빔을 도둑질하고

창31:20 야곱은 그 거취를 아람 사람 라반에게 말하지 아니하고 가만히 떠났더라

창31:21 그가 그의 모든 소유를 이끌고 강을 건너 길르앗 산을 향하여 도망한 지

창31:22 삼 일 만에 야곱이 도망한 것이 라반에게 들린지라

창31:23 라반이 그의 형제를 거느리고 칠 일 길을 쫓아가 길르앗 산에서 그에게 이르렀더니

창31:24 밤에 하나님이 아람 사람 라반에게 현몽하여 이르시되 너는 삼가 야곱에게 선악간에 말하지 말라 하셨더라

창31:25 라반이 야곱을 뒤쫓아 이르렀으니 야곱이 그 산에 장막을 친지라 라반이 그 형제와 더불어 길르앗 산에 장막을 치고

창31:26 라반이 야곱에게 이르되 네가 나를 속이고 내 딸들을 칼에 사로잡힌 자 같이 끌고 갔으니 어찌 이같이 하였느냐

창31:27 내가 즐거움과 노래와 북과 수금으로 너를 보내겠거늘 어찌하여 네가 나를 속이고 가만히 도망하고 내게 알리지 아니하였으며

창31:28 내가 내 손자들과 딸들에게 입맞추지 못하게 하였으니 네 행위가 참으로 어리석도다

창31:29 너를 해할 만한 능력이 내 손에 있으나 너희 아버지의 하나님이 어제 밤에 내게 말씀하시기를 너는 삼가 야곱에게 선악간에 말하지 말라 하셨느니라

창31:30 이제 네가 네 아버지 집을 사모하여 돌아가려는 것은 옳거니와 어찌 내 신을 도둑질하였느냐

창31:31 야곱이 라반에게 대답하여 이르되 내가 생각하기를 외삼촌이 외삼촌의 딸들을 내게서 억지로 빼앗으리라 하여 두려워하였음이니이다

창31:32 외삼촌의 신을 누구에게서 찾든지 그는 살지 못할 것이요 우리 형제들 앞에서 무엇이든지 외삼촌의 것이 발견되거든 외삼촌에게로 가져가소서 하니 야곱은 라헬이 그것을 도둑질한 줄을 알지 못함이었더라

창31:33 라반이 야곱의 장막에 들어가고 레아의 장막에 들어가고 두 여종의 장막에 들어갔으나 찾지 못하고 레아의 장막에서 나와 라헬의 장막에 들어가매

창31:34 라헬이 그 드라빔을 가져 낙타 안장 아래에 넣고 그 위에 앉은 지라 라반이 그 장막에서 찾다가 찾아내지 못하매

창31:35 라헬이 그의 아버지에게 이르되 마침 생리가 있어 일어나서 영접할 수 없사오니 내 주는 노하지 마소서 하니라 라반이 그 드라빔을 두루 찾다가 찾아내지 못한지라

창31:36 야곱이 노하여 라반을 책망할새 야곱이 라반에게 대답하여 이르되 내 허물이 무엇이니이까 무슨 죄가 있기에 외삼촌께서 내 뒤를 급히 추격하나이까

창31:37 외삼촌께서 내 물건을 다 뒤져보셨으니 외삼촌의 집안 물건 중에서 무엇을 찾아내었나이까 여기 내 형제와 외삼촌의 형제 앞에 그것을 두고 우리 둘 사이에 판단하게 하소서

창31:38 내가 이 이십 년을 외삼촌과 함께 하였거니와 외삼촌의 암양들이나 암염소들이 낙태하지 아니하였고 또 외삼촌의 양 떼의 숫양을 내가 먹지 아니하였으며

창31:39 물려 찢긴 것은 내가 외삼촌에게로 가져가지 아니하고 낮에 도둑을 맞았든지 밤에 도둑을 맞았든지 외삼촌이 그것을 내 손에서 찾았으므로 내가 스스로 그것을 보충하였으며

창31:40 내가 이와 같이 낮에는 더위와 밤에는 추위를 무릅쓰고 눈 붙일 겨를도 없이 지냈나이다

창31:41 내가 외삼촌의 집에 있는 이 이십 년 동안 외삼촌의 두 딸을 위하여 십사 년, 외삼촌의 양 떼를 위하여 육 년을 외삼촌에게 봉사하였거니와 외삼촌께서 내 품삯을 열 번이나 바꾸셨으며

창31:42 우리 아버지의 하나님, 아브라함의 하나님 곧 이삭이 경외하는 이가 나와 함께 계시지 아니하셨더라면 외삼촌께서 이제 나를 빈손으로 돌려보내셨으리이다마는 하나님이 내 고난과 내 손의 수고를 보시고 어제 밤에 외삼촌을 책망하셨나이다

창31:43 라반이 야곱에게 대답하여 이르되 딸들은 내 딸이요 자식들은 내 자식이요 양 떼는 내 양 떼요 네가 보는 것은 다 내 것이라 내가 오늘 내 딸들과 그들이 낳은 자식들에게 무엇을 하겠느냐

창31:44 이제 오라 나와 네가 언약을 맺고 그것으로 너와 나 사이에 증거를 삼을 것이니라

창31:45 이에 야곱이 돌을 가져다가 기둥으로 세우고

창31:46 또 그 형제들에게 돌을 모으라 하니 그들이 돌을 가져다가 무더기를 이루매 무리가 거기 무더기 곁에서 먹고

창31:47 라반은 그것을 여갈사하두다라 불렀고 야곱은 그것을 갈르엣이라 불렀으니

창31:48 라반의 말에 오늘 이 무더기가 너와 나 사이에 증거가 된다 하였으므로 그 이름을 갈르엣이라 불렀으며

창31:49 또 미스바라 하였으니 이는 그의 말에 우리가 서로 떠나 있을 때에 여호와께서 나와 너 사이를 살피시옵소서 함이라

창31:50 만일 네가 내 딸을 박대하거나 내 딸들 외에 다른 아내들을 맞이하면 우리와 함께 할 사람은 없어도 보라 하나님이 나와 너 사이에 증인이 되시느니라 함이었더라

창31:51 라반이 또 야곱에게 이르되 내가 나와 너 사이에 둔 이 무더기를 보라 또 이 기둥을 보라

창31:52 이 무더기가 증거가 되고 이 기둥이 증거가 되나니 내가 이 무더기를 넘어 네게로 가서 해하지 않을 것이요 네가 이 무더기, 이 기둥을 넘어 내게로 와서 해하지 아니할 것이라

창31:53 아브라함의 하나님, 나홀의 하나님, 그들의 조상의 하나님은 우리 사이에 판단하옵소서 하매 야곱이 그의 아버지 이삭이 경외하는 이를 가리켜 맹세하고

창31:54 야곱이 또 산에서 제사를 드리고 형제들을 불러 떡을 먹이니 그들이 떡을 먹고 산에서 밤을 지내고

창31:55 라반이 아침에 일찍이 일어나 손자들과 딸들에게 입맞추며 그들에게 축복하고 떠나 고향으로 돌아갔더라

마가복음 2 장.

막2:1 수 일 후에 예수께서 다시 가버나움에 들어가시니 집에 계시다는 소문이 들린지라

막2:2 많은 사람이 모여서 문 앞까지도 들어설 자리가 없게 되었는데 예수께서 그들에게 도를 말씀하시더니

막2:3 사람들이 한 중풍병자를 네 사람에게 메워 가지고 예수께로 올새

막2:4 무리를 때문에 예수께 데려갈 수 없으므로 그 계신 곳의 지붕을 뜯어 구멍을 내고 중풍병자의 누운 상을 달아 내리니

막2:5 예수께서 그들의 믿음을 보시고 중풍병자에게 이르시되 작은 자야 네 죄 사함을 받았느니라 하시니

막2:6 어떤 서기관들이 거기 앉아서 마음에 생각하기를

막2:7 이 사람이 어찌 이렇게 말하는가 신성 모독이로다 오직 하나님 한 분 외에는 누가 능히 죄를 사하겠느냐

막2:8 그들이 속으로 이렇게 의논하는 줄을 예수께서 곧 중심에 아시고 이르시되 어찌하여 이것을 마음에 생각하느냐

막2:9 중풍병자에게 네 죄 사함을 받았느니라 하는 말과 일어나 네 상을 가지고 걸어가라 하는 말 중에서 어느 것이 쉽겠느냐

막2:10 그러나 인자가 땅에서 죄를 사하는 권세가 있는 줄을 너희로 알게 하려 하노라 하시고 중풍병자에게 말씀하시되

막2:11 내가 네게 이르노니 일어나 네 상을 가지고 집으로 가라 하시니

막2:12 그가 일어나 곧 상을 가지고 모든 사람 앞에서 나가거늘 그들이 다 놀라 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 이르되 우리가 이런 일을 도무지 보지 못하였다 하더라

막2:13 예수께서 다시 바닷가에 나가시매 큰 무리가 나왔거늘 예수께서 그들을 가르치시니라

막2:14 또 지나가시다가 알패오의 아들 레위가 세관에 앉아 있는 것을 보시고 그에게 이르시되 나를 따르라 하시니 일어나 따르니라

막2:15 그의 집에 앉아 잡수실 때에 많은 세리와 죄인들이 예수와 그의 제자들과 함께 앉았으니 이는 그러한 사람들이 많이 있어서 예수를 따름이러라

막2:16 바리새인의 서기관들이 예수께서 죄인 및 세리들과 함께 잡수시는 것을 보고 그의 제자들에게 이르되 어찌하여 세리 및 죄인들과 함께 먹는가

막2:17 예수께서 들으시고 그들에게 이르시되 건강한 자에게는 의사가 쓸 데 없고 병든 자에게라야 쓸 데 있느니라 나는 의인을 부르러 온 것이 아니요 죄인을 부르러 왔노라 하시니라

막2:18 요한의 제자들과 바리새인들이 금식하고 있는지라 사람들이 예수께 와서 말하되 요한의 제자들과 바리세인의 제자들은 금식하는데 어찌하여 당신의 제자들은 금식하지 아니하나이까

막2:19 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 혼인집 손님들이 신랑과 함께 있을 때에 금식할 수 있느냐 신랑과 함께 있을 동안에는 금식할 수 없느니라

막2:20 그러나 신랑을 빼앗길 날이 이르리니 그 날에는 금식할 것이니라

막2:21 생베 조각을 낡은 옷에 붙이는 자가 없나니 만일 그렇게 하면 기운 새 것이 낡은 그것을 당기어 해어짐이 더하게 되느니라

막2:22 새 포도주를 낡은 가죽 부대에 넣는 자가 없나니 만일 그렇게 하면 새 포도주가 부대를 터뜨려 포도주와 부대를 버리게 되리라 오직 새 포도주는 새 부대에 넣느니라 하시니라

막2:23 안식일에 예수께서 밀밭 사이로 지나가실새 그의 제자들이 길을 열며 이삭을 자르니

막2:24 바리새인들이 예수께 말하되 보시오 저들이 어찌하여 안식일에 하지 못할 일을 하나이까

막2:25 예수께서 이르시되 다윗이 자기와 및 함께 한 자들이 먹을 것이 없어 시장할 때에 한 일을 읽지 못하였느냐

막2:26 그가 아비아달 대제사장 때에 하나님의 전에 들어가서 제사장 외에는 먹어서는 안되는 진설병을 먹고 함께 한 자들에게도 주지 아니하였느냐

막2:27 또 이르시되 안식일이 사람을 위하여 있는 것이요 사람이 안식일을 위하여 있는 것이 아니니

막2:28 이러므로 인자는 안식일에도 주인이니라

에스더 7 장.

에7:1 왕이 하만과 함께 또 왕후 에스더의 잔치에 가니라

에7:2 왕이 이 둘째 날 잔치에 술을 마실 때에 다시 에스더에게 물어 이르되 왕후 에스더여 그대의 소청이 무엇이냐 곧 허락하겠노라 그대의 요구가 무엇이냐 곧 나라의 절반이라 할지라도 시행하겠노라

에7:3 왕후 에스더가 대답하여 이르되 왕이여 내가 만일 왕의 목전에서 은혜를 입었으며 왕이 좋게 여기시면 내 소청대로 내 생명을 내게 주시고 내 요구대로 내 민족을 내게 주소서

에7:4 나와 내 민족이 팔려서 죽임과 도륙함과 진멸함을 당하게 되었나이다 만일 우리가 노비로 팔렸더라면 내가 잠잠하였으리이다 그래도 대적이 왕의 손해를 보충하지 못하였으리이다 하니

에7:5 아하수에로 왕이 왕후 에스더에게 말하여 이르되 감히 이런 일을 심중에 품은 자가 누구며 그가 어디 있느냐 하니

에7:6 에스더가 이르되 대적과 원수는 이 악한 하만이니이다 하니 하만이 왕과 왕후 앞에서 두려워하거늘

에7:7 왕이 노하여 일어나서 잔치 자리를 떠나 왕궁 후원으로 들어가니라 하만이 일어서서 왕후 에스더에게 생명을 구하니 이는 왕이 자기에게 벌을 내리기로 결심한 줄 앎이더라

에7:8 왕이 후원으로부터 잔치 자리에 돌아오니 하만이 에스더가 앉은 걸상 위에 엎드렸거늘 왕이 이르되 저가 궁중 내 앞에서 왕후를 강간까지 하고자 하는가 하니 이 말이 왕의 입에서 나오매 무리가 하만의 얼굴을 싸더라

에7:9 왕을 모신 내시 중에 하르보나가 왕에게 아뢰되 왕을 위하여 충성된 말로 고발한 모르드개를 달고자 하여 하만이 높이가 오십 규빗 되는 나무를 준비하였는데 이제 그 나무가 하만의 집에 섰나이다 왕이 이르되 하만을 그 나무에 달라 하매

에7:10 모르드개를 매달려고 한 나무에 하만을 다니 왕의 노가 그치니라

로 마 서 2 장.

롬2:1 그러므로 남을 판단하는 사람아, 누구를 막론하고 네가 핑계하지 못할 것은 남을 판단하는 것으로 네가 너를 정죄함이니 판단하는 네가 같은 일을 행함이니라

롬2:2 이런 일을 행하는 자에게 하나님의 심판이 진리대로 되는 줄 우리가 아노라

롬2:3 이런 일을 행하는 자를 판단하고도 같은 일을 행하는 사람아, 네가 하나님의 심판을 피할 줄로 생각하느냐

롬2:4 혹 네가 하나님의 인자하심이 너를 인도하여 회개하게 하심을 알지 못하여 그의 인자하심과 용납하심과 길이 참으심이 풍성함을 멸시하느냐

롬2:5 다만 네 고집과 회개하지 아니한 마음을 따라 진노의 날 곧 하나님의 의로우신 심판이 나타나는 그 날에 임할 진노를 네게 쌓는도다

롬2:6 하나님께서 각 사람에게 그 행한 대로 보응하시되

롬2:7 참고 선을 행하여 영광과 존귀와 썩지 아니함을 구하는 자에게는 영생으로 하시고

롬2:8 오직 당을 지어 진리를 따르지 아니하고 불의를 따르는 자에게는 진노와 분노로 하시리라

롬2:9 악을 행하는 각 사람의 영에는 환난과 곤고가 있으리니 먼저는 유대인에게요 그리고 헬라인에게며

롬2:10 선을 행하는 사람에게는 영광과 존귀와 평강이 있으리니 먼저는 유대인에게요 그리고 헬라인에게라

롬2:11 이는 하나님께서 외모로 사람을 취하지 아니하심이라

롬2:12 무릇 율법 없이 범죄한 자는 또한 율법 없이 망하고 무릇 율법이 있고 범죄한 자는 율법으로 말미암아 심판을 받으리라

롬2:13 하나님 앞에서는 율법을 듣는 자가 의인이 아니요 오직 율법을 행하는 자라야 의롭다 하심을 얻으리니

롬2:14 (율법 없는 이방인이 본성으로 율법의 일을 행할 때에는 이 사람은 율법이 없어도 자기가 자기에게 율법이 되나니

롬2:15 이런 이들은 그 양심이 증거가 되어 그 생각들이 서로 혹은 고발하며 혹은 변명하여 그 마음에 새긴 율법의 행위를 나타내느니라)

롬2:16 곧 나의 복음에 이른 바와 같이 하나님이 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 사람들의 은밀한 것을 심판하시는 그 날이라

롬2:17 유대인이라 불리는 네가 율법을 의지하며 하나님을 자랑하며

롬2:18 율법의 교훈을 받아 하나님의 뜻을 알고 지극히 선한 것을 분간하며

롬2:19 맹인의 길을 인도하는 자요 어둠에 있는 자의 빛이요

롬2:20 율법에 있는 지식과 진리의 모본을 가진 자로서 어리석은 자의 교사요 어린 아이의 선생이라고 스스로 믿으니

롬2:21 그러면 다른 사람을 가르치는 네가 네 자신은 가르치지 아니하느냐 도둑질하지 말라 선포하는 네가 도둑질하느냐

롬2:22 간음하지 말라 말하는 네가 간음하느냐 우상을 가증히 여기는 네가 신전 물건을 도둑질하느냐

롬2:23 율법을 자랑하는 네가 율법을 범함으로 하나님을 욕되게 하느냐

롬2:24 기록된 바와 같이 하나님의 이름이 너희 때문에 이방인 중에서 모독을 받는도다

롬2:25 네가 율법을 행하면 할례가 유익하나 만일 율법을 범하면 네 할례는 무할례가 되느니라

롬2:26 그런즉 무할례자가 율법의 규례를 지키면 그 무할례를 할례와 같이 여길 것이 아니냐

롬2:27 또한 본래 무할례자가 율법을 온전히 지키면 율법 조문과 할례를 가지고 율법을 범하는 너를 정죄하지 아니하겠느냐

롬2:28 무릇 표면적 유대인이 유대인이 아니요 표면적 육신의 할례가 할례가 아니니라

롬2:29 오직 이면적 유대인이 유대인이며 할례는 마음에 할지니 영에 있고 율법 조문에 있지 아니한 것이라 그 칭찬이 사람에게서가 아니요 다만 하나님에게서니라

Genesis 31.

31:1 Jacob heard that Laban's sons were saying, "Jacob has taken everything our father owned and has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father."

31:2 And Jacob noticed that Laban's attitude toward him was not what it had been.

31:3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you."

31:4 So Jacob sent word to Rachel and Leah to come out to the fields where his flocks were.

31:5 He said to them, "I see that your father's attitude toward me is not what it was before, but the God of my father has been with me.

31:6 You know that I've worked for your father with all my strength,

31:7 yet your father has cheated me by changing my wages ten times. However, God has not allowed him to harm me.

31:8 If he said, 'The speckled ones will be your wages,' then all the flocks gave birth to speckled young; and if he said, 'The streaked ones will be your wages,' then all the flocks bore streaked young.

31:9 So God has taken away your father's livestock and has given them to me.

31:10 "In breeding season I once had a dream in which I looked up and saw that the male goats mating with the flock were streaked, speckled or spotted.

31:11 The angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob.' I answered, 'Here I am.'

31:12 And he said, 'Look up and see that all the male goats mating with the flock are streaked, speckled or spotted, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you.

31:13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar and where you made a vow to me. Now leave this land at once and go back to your native land.'"

31:14 Then Rachel and Leah replied, "Do we still have any share in the inheritance of our father's estate?

31:15 Does he not regard us as foreigners? Not only has he sold us, but he has used up what was paid for us.

31:16 Surely all the wealth that God took away from our father belongs to us and our children. So do whatever God has told you."

31:17 Then Jacob put his children and his wives on camels,

31:18 and he drove all his livestock ahead of him, along with all the goods he had accumulated in Paddan Aram, to go to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.

31:19 When Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father's household gods.

31:20 Moreover, Jacob deceived Laban the Aramean by not telling him he was running away.

31:21 So he fled with all he had, and crossing the River, he headed for the hill country of Gilead.

31:22 On the third day Laban was told that Jacob had fled.

31:23 Taking his relatives with him, he pursued Jacob for seven days and caught up with him in the hill country of Gilead.

31:24 Then God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him, "Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad."

31:25 Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country of Gilead when Laban overtook him, and Laban and his relatives camped there too.

31:26 Then Laban said to Jacob, "What have you done? You've deceived me, and you've carried off my daughters like captives in war.

31:27 Why did you run off secretly and deceive me? Why didn't you tell me, so I could send you away with joy and singing to the music of tambourines and harps?

31:28 You didn't even let me kiss my grandchildren and my daughters good-by. You have done a foolish thing.

31:29 I have the power to harm you; but last night the God of your father said to me, 'Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.'

31:30 Now you have gone off because you longed to return to your father's house. But why did you steal my gods?"

31:31 Jacob answered Laban, "I was afraid, because I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force.

31:32 But if you find anyone who has your gods, he shall not live. In the presence of our relatives, see for yourself whether there is anything of yours here with me; and if so, take it." Now Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen the gods.

31:33 So Laban went into Jacob's tent and into Leah's tent and into the tent of the two maidservants, but he found nothing. After he came out of Leah's tent, he entered Rachel's tent.

31:34 Now Rachel had taken the household gods and put them inside her camel's saddle and was sitting on them. Laban searched through everything in the tent but found nothing.

31:35 Rachel said to her father, "Don't be angry, my lord, that I cannot stand up in your presence; I'm having my period." So he searched but could not find the household gods.

31:36 Jacob was angry and took Laban to task. "What is my crime?" he asked Laban. "What sin have I committed that you hunt me down?

31:37 Now that you have searched through all my goods, what have you found that belongs to your household? Put it here in front of your relatives and mine, and let them judge between the two of us.

31:38 "I have been with you for twenty years now. Your sheep and goats have not miscarried, nor have I eaten rams from your flocks.

31:39 I did not bring you animals torn by wild beasts; I bore the loss myself. And you demanded payment from me for whatever was stolen by day or night.

31:40 This was my situation: The heat consumed me in the daytime and the cold at night, and sleep fled from my eyes.

31:41 It was like this for the twenty years I was in your household. I worked for you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks, and you changed my wages ten times.

31:42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands, and last night he rebuked you."

31:43 Laban answered Jacob, "The women are my daughters, the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks. All you see is mine. Yet what can I do today about these daughters of mine, or about the children they have borne?

31:44 Come now, let's make a covenant, you and I, and let it serve as a witness between us."

31:45 So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar.

31:46 He said to his relatives, "Gather some stones." So they took stones and piled them in a heap, and they ate there by the heap.

31:47 Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, and Jacob called it Galeed.

31:48 Laban said, "This heap is a witness between you and me today." That is why it was called Galeed.

31:49 It was also called Mizpah, because he said, "May the LORD keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other.

31:50 If you mistreat my daughters or if you take any wives besides my daughters, even though no one is with us, remember that God is a witness between you and me."

31:51 Laban also said to Jacob, "Here is this heap, and here is this pillar I have set up between you and me.

31:52 This heap is a witness, and this pillar is a witness, that I will not go past this heap to your side to harm you and that you will not go past this heap and pillar to my side to harm me.

31:53 May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us." So Jacob took an oath in the name of the Fear of his father Isaac.

31:54 He offered a sacrifice there in the hill country and invited his relatives to a meal. After they had eaten, they spent the night there.

31:55 Early the next morning Laban kissed his grandchildren and his daughters and blessed them. Then he left and returned home.

Mark 2.

2:1 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.

2:2 So many gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.

2:3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them.

2:4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on.

2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

2:6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves,

2:7 "Why does this fellow talk like that? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"

2:8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, "Why are you thinking these things?

2:9 Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, take your mat and walk'?

2:10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...." He said to the paralytic,

2:11 "I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home."

2:12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!"

2:13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them.

2:14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.

2:15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.

2:16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the "sinners" and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: "Why does he eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?"

2:17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

2:18 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, "How is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?"

2:19 Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them.

2:20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.

2:21 "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.

2:22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, he pours new wine into new wineskins."

2:23 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain.

2:24 The Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?"

2:25 He answered, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?

2:26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions."

2:27 Then he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

2:28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

Esther 7.

7:1 So the king and Haman went to dine with Queen Esther,

7:2 and as they were drinking wine on that second day, the king again asked, "Queen Esther, what is your petition? It will be given you. What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be granted."

7:3 Then Queen Esther answered, "If I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases your majesty, grant me my life--this is my petition. And spare my people--this is my request.

7:4 For I and my people have been sold for destruction and slaughter and annihilation. If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king."

7:5 King Xerxes asked Queen Esther, "Who is he? Where is the man who has dared to do such a thing?"

7:6 Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this vile Haman." Then Haman was terrified before the king and queen.

7:7 The king got up in a rage, left his wine and went out into the palace garden. But Haman, realizing that the king had already decided his fate, stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life.

7:8 Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the banquet hall, Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was reclining. The king exclaimed, "Will he even molest the queen while she is with me in the house?" As soon as the word left the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

7:9 Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs attending the king, said, "A gallows seventy-five feet high stands by Haman's house. He had it made for Mordecai, who spoke up to help the king." The king said, "Hang him on it!"

7:10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's fury subsided.

Romans 2.

2:1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

2:2 Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.

2:3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?

2:4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

2:5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

2:6 God "will give to each person according to what he has done."

2:7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.

2:8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

2:9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;

2:10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

2:11 For God does not show favoritism.

2:12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.

2:13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

2:14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law,

2:15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)

2:16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

2:17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God;

2:18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;

2:19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark,

2:20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth--

2:21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?

2:22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?

2:23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?

2:24 As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."

2:25 Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised.

2:26 If those who are not circumcised keep the law's requirements, will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised?

2:27 The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.

2:28 A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical.

2:29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.
