창세기 30 장.

창30:1 라헬이 자기가 야곱에게서 아들을 낳지 못함을 보고 그의 언니를 시기하여 야곱에게 이르되 내게 자식을 낳게 하라 그렇지 아니하면 내가 죽겠노라

창30:2 야곱이 라헬에게 성을 내어 이르되 그대를 임신하지 못하게 하시는 이는 하나님이시니 내가 하나님을 대신하겠느냐

창30:3 라헬이 이르되 내 여종 빌하에게로 들어가라 그가 아들을 낳아 내 무릎에 두리니 그러면 나도 그로 말미암아 자식을 얻겠노라 하고

창30:4 그의 시녀 빌하를 남편에게 아내로 주매 야곱이 그에게로 들어갔더니

창30:5 빌하가 임신하여 야곱에게 아들을 낳은지라

창30:6 라헬이 이르되 하나님이 내 억울함을 푸시려고 내 호소를 들으사 내게 아들을 주셨다 하고 이로 말미암아 그의 이름을 단이라 하였으며

창30:7 라헬의 시녀 빌하가 다시 임신하여 둘째 아들을 야곱에게 낳으매

창30:8 라헬이 이르되 내가 언니와 크게 경쟁하여 이겼다 하고 그의 이름을 납달리라 하였더라

창30:9 레아가 자기의 출산이 멈춤을 보고 그의 시녀 실바를 데려다가 야곱에게 주어 아내로 삼게 하였더니

창30:10 레아의 시녀 실바가 야곱에게서 아들을 낳으매

창30:11 레아가 이르되 복되도다 하고 그의 이름을 갓이라 하였으며

창30:12 레아의 시녀 실바가 둘째 아들을 야곱에게 낳으매

창30:13 레아가 이르되 기쁘도다 모든 딸들이 나를 기쁜 자라 하리로다 하고 그의 이름을 아셀이라 하였더라

창30:14 밀 거둘 때 르우벤이 나가서 들에서 합환채를 얻어 그의 어머니 레아에게 드렸더니 라헬이 레아에게 이르되 언니의 아들의 합환채를 청구하노라

창30:15 레아가 그에게 이르되 네가 내 남편을 빼앗은 것이 작은 일이냐 그런데 네가 내 아들의 합환채도 빼앗고자 하느냐 라헬이 이르되 그러면 언니의 아들의 합환채 대신에 오늘밤에 내 남편이 언니와 동침하리라 하니라

창30:16 저물 때에 야곱이 들에서 돌아오매 레아가 나와서 그를 영접하며 이르되 내게로 들어오라 내가 내 아들의 합환채로 당신을 샀노라 그 밤에 야곱이 그와 동침하였더라

창30:17 하나님이 레아의 소원을 들으셨으므로 그가 임신하여 다섯째 아들을 야곱에게 낳은지라

창30:18 레아가 이르되 내가 내 시녀를 내 남편에게 주었으므로 하나님이 내게 그 값을 주셨다 하고 그의 이름을 잇사갈이라 하였으며

창30:19 레아가 다시 임신하여 여섯째 아들을 야곱에게 낳은지라

창30:20 레아가 이르되 하나님이 내게 후한 선물을 주시도다 내가 남편에게 여섯 아들을 낳았으니 이제는 그가 나와 함께 살리라 하고 그의 이름을 스불론이라 하였으며

창30:21 그 후에 그가 딸을 낳고 그의 이름을 디나라 하였더라

창30:22 하나님이 라헬을 생각하신지라 하나님이 그의 소원을 들으시고 그의 태를 여셨으므로

창30:23 그가 임신하여 아들을 낳고 이르되 하나님이 내 부끄러움을 씻으셨다 하고

창30:24 그 이름을 요셉이라 하니 여호와는 다시 다른 아들을 내게 더하시기를 원하노라 하였더라

창30:25 라헬이 요셉을 낳았을 때에 야곱이 라반에게 이르되 나를 보내어 내 고향 나의 땅으로 가게 하시되

창30:26 내가 외삼촌에게서 일하고 얻은 처자를 내게 주시어 나로 가게 하소서 내가 외삼촌에게 한 일은 외삼촌이 아시나이다

창30:27 라반이 그에게 이르되 여호와께서 너로 말미암아 내게 복 주신 줄을 내가 깨달았노니 네가 나를 사랑스럽게 여기거든 그대로 있으라

창30:28 또 이르되 네 품삯을 정하라 내가 그것을 주리라

창30:29 야곱이 그에게 이르되 내가 어떻게 외삼촌을 섬겼는지, 어떻게 외삼촌의 가축을 쳤는지 외삼촌이 아시나이다

창30:30 내가 오기 전에는 외삼촌의 소유가 적더니 번성하여 떼를 이루었으니 내 발이 이르는 곳마다 여호와께서 외삼촌에게 복을 주셨나이다 그러나 나는 언제나 내 집을 세우리이까

창30:31 라반이 이르되 내가 무엇으로 네게 주랴 야곱이 이르되 외삼촌께서 내게 아무 것도 주시지 않아도 나를 위하여 이 일을 행하시면 내가 다시 외삼촌의 양 떼를 먹이고 지키리이다

창30:32 오늘 내가 외삼촌의 양 떼에 두루 다니며 그 양 중에 아롱진 것과 점 있는 것과 검은 것을 가려내며 또 염소 중에 점 있는 것과 아롱진 것을 가려내리니 이같은 것이 내 품삯이 되리이다

창30:33 후일에 외삼촌께서 오셔서 내 품삯을 조사하실 때에 나의 공의가 내 대답이 되리이다 내게 혹시 염소 중 아롱지지 아니한 것이나 점이 없는 것이나 양 중에 검지 아니한 것이 있거든 다 도둑질한 것으로 인정하소서

창30:34 라반이 이르되 내가 네 말대로 하리라 하고

창30:35 그 날에 그가 숫염소 중 얼룩무늬 있는 것과 점 있는 것을 가리고 암염소 중 흰 바탕에 아롱진 것과 점 있는 것을 가리고 양 중의 검은 것들을 가려 자기 아들들의 손에 맡기고

창30:36 자기와 야곱의 사이를 사흘 길이 뜨게 하였고 야곱은 라반의 남은 양 떼를 치니라

창30:37 야곱이 버드나무와 살구나무와 신풍나무의 푸른 가지를 가져다가 그것들의 껍질을 벗겨 흰 무늬를 내고

창30:38 그 껍질 벗긴 가지를 양 떼가 와서 먹는 개천의 물 구유에 세워 양 떼를 향하게 하매 그 떼가 물을 먹으러 올 때에 새끼를 배니

창30:39 가지 앞에서 새끼를 배므로 얼룩얼룩한 것과 점이 있고 아롱진 것을 낳은지라

창30:40 야곱이 새끼 양을 구분하고 그 얼룩무늬와 검은 빛 있는 것을 라반의 양과 서로 마주보게 하며 자기 양을 따로 두어 라반의 양과 섞이지 않게 하며

창30:41 튼튼한 양이 새끼 밸 때에는 야곱이 개천에다가 양 떼의 눈 앞에 그 가지를 두어 양이 그 가지 곁에서 새끼를 배게 하고

창30:42 약한 양이면 그 가지를 두지 아니하니 그렇게 함으로 약한 것은 라반의 것이 되고 튼튼한 것은 야곱의 것이 된지라

창30:43 이에 그 사람이 매우 번창하여 양 떼와 노비와 낙타와 나귀가 많았더라

마가복음 1 장.

막1:1 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도의 복음의 시작이라

막1:2 선지자 이사야의 글에 보라 내가 내 사자를 네 앞에 보내노니 그가 네 길을 준비하리라

막1:3 광야에 외치는 자의 소리가 있어 이르되 너희는 주의 길을 준비하라 그의 오실 길을 곧게 하라 기록된 것과 같이

막1:4 세례 요한이 광야에 이르러 죄 사함을 받게 하는 회개의 세례를 전파하니

막1:5 온 유대 지방과 예루살렘 사람이 다 나아가 자기 죄를 자복하고 요단 강에서 그에게 세례를 받더라

막1:6 요한은 낙타털 옷을 입고 허리에 가죽 띠를 띠고 메뚜기와 석청을 먹더라

막1:7 그가 전파하여 이르되 나보다 능력 많으신 이가 내 뒤에 오시나니 나는 그의 신발끈을 풀기도 감당하지 못하겠노라

막1:8 나는 너희에게 물로 세례를 베풀었거니와 그는 너희에게 성령으로 세례를 베푸시리라

막1:9 그 때에 예수께서 갈릴리 나사렛으로부터 와서 요단 강에서 요한에게 세례를 받으시고

막1:10 곧 물에서 올라오실새 하늘이 갈라짐과 성령이 비둘기 같이 자기에게 내려오심을 보시더니

막1:11 하늘로부터 소리가 나기를 너는 내 사랑하는 아들이라 내가 너를 기뻐하노라 하시니라

막1:12 성령이 곧 예수를 광야로 몰아내신지라

막1:13 광야에서 사십 일을 계시면서 사탄에게 시험을 받으시며 들짐승과 함께 계시니 천사들이 수종들더라

막1:14 요한이 잡힌 후 예수께서 갈릴리에 오셔서 하나님의 복음을 전파하여

막1:15 이르시되 때가 찼고 하나님의 나라가 가까이 왔으니 회개하고 복음을 믿으라 하시더라

막1:16 갈릴리 해변으로 지나가시다가 시몬과 그 형제 안드레가 바다에 그물 던지는 것을 보시니 그들은 어부라

막1:17 예수께서 이르시되 나를 따라오라 내가 너희로 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라 하시니

막1:18 곧 그물을 버려 두고 따르니라

막1:19 조금 더 가시다가 세베대의 아들 야고보와 그 형제 요한을 보시니 그들도 배에 있어 그물을 깁는데

막1:20 곧 부르시니 그 아버지 세베대를 품꾼들과 함께 배에 버려 두고 예수를 따라가니라

막1:21 그들이 가버나움에 들어가니라 예수께서 곧 안식일에 회당에 들어가 가르치시매

막1:22 뭇 사람이 그의 교훈에 놀라니 이는 그가 가르치시는 것이 권위 있는 자와 같고 서기관들과 같지 아니함일러라

막1:23 마침 그들의 회당에 더러운 귀신 들린 사람이 있어 소리 질러 이르되

막1:24 나사렛 예수여 우리가 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까 우리를 멸하러 왔나이까 나는 당신이 누구인줄 아노니 하나님의 거룩한 자니이다

막1:25 예수께서 꾸짖어 이르시되 잠잠하고 그 사람에게서 나오라 하시니

막1:26 더러운 귀신이 그 사람에게 경련을 일으키고 큰 소리를 지르며 나오는지라

막1:27 다 놀라 서로 물어 이르되 이는 어찜이냐 권위 있는 새 교훈이로다 더러운 귀신들에게 명한즉 순종하는도다 하더라

막1:28 예수의 소문이 곧 온 갈릴리 사방에 퍼지더라

막1:29 회당에서 나와 곧 야고보와 요한과 함께 시몬과 안드레의 집에 들어가시니

막1:30 시몬의 장모가 열병으로 누워 있는지라 사람들이 곧 그 여자에 대하여 예수께 여짜온대

막1:31 나아가사 그 손을 잡아 일으키시니 열병이 떠나고 여자가 그들에게 수종드니라

막1:32 저물어 해 질 때에 모든 병자와 귀신 들린 자를 예수께 데려오니

막1:33 온 동네가 그 문 앞에 모였더라

막1:34 예수께서 각종 병든 많은 사람을 고치시며 많은 귀신을 내쫓으시되 귀신이 자기를 알므로 그 말하는 것을 허락하지 아니하시니라

막1:35 새벽 아직도 밝기 전에 예수께서 일어나 나가 한적한 곳으로 가사 거기서 기도하시더니

막1:36 시몬과 및 그와 함께 있는 자들이 예수의 뒤를 따라가

막1:37 만나서 이르되 모든 사람이 주를 찾나이다

막1:38 이르시되 우리가 다른 가까운 마을들로 가자 거기서도 전도하리니 내가 이를 위하여 왔노라 하시고

막1:39 이에 온 갈릴리에 다니시며 그들의 여러 회당에서 전도하시고 또 귀신들을 내쫓으시더라

막1:40 한 나병환자가 예수께 와서 꿇어 엎드려 간구하여 이르되 원하시면 저를 깨끗하게 하실 수 있나이다

막1:41 예수께서 불쌍히 여기사 손을 내밀어 그에게 대시며 이르시되 내가 원하노니 깨끗함을 받으라 하신니

막1:42 곧 나병이 그 사람에게서 떠나가고 깨끗하여진지라

막1:43 곧 보내시며 엄히 경고하사

막1:44 이르시되 삼가 아무에게 아무 말도 하지 말고 가서 네 몸을 제사장에게 보이고 네 깨끗하게 되었으니 모세가 명한 것을 드려 그들에게 입증하라 하셨더라

막1:45 그러나 그 사람이 나가서 이 일을 많이 전파하여 널리 퍼지게 하니 그러므로 예수께서 다시는 드러나게 동네에 들어가지 못하시고 오직 바깥 한적한 곳에 계셨으나 사방에서 사람들이 그에게로 나아오더라

에스더 6 장.

에6:1 그 날 밤에 왕이 잠이 오지 아니하므로 명령하여 역대 일기를 가져다가 자기 앞에서 읽히더니

에6:2 그 속에 기록하기를 문을 지키던 왕의 두 내시 빅다나와 데레스가 아하수에로 왕을 암살하려는 음모를 모르드개가 고발하였다 하였는지라

에6:3 왕이 이르되 이 일에 대하여 무슨 존귀와 관작을 모르드개에게 베풀었느냐 하니 측근 신하들이 대답하되 아무것도 베풀지 아니하였나이다 하니라

에6:4 왕이 이르되 누가 뜰에 있느냐 하매 마침 하만이 자기가 세운 나무에 모르드개 달기를 왕께 구하고자 하여 왕궁 바깥뜰에 이른지라

에6:5 측근 신하들이 아뢰되 하만이 뜰에 섰나이다 하니 왕이 이르되 들어오게 하라 하니

에6:6 하만이 들어오거늘 왕이 묻되 왕이 존귀하게 하기를 원하는 사람에게 어떻게 하여야 하겠느냐 하만이 심중에 이르되 왕이 존귀하게 하기를 원하시는 자는 나 외에 누구리요 하고

에6:7 왕께 아뢰되 왕께서 사람을 존귀하게 하시려면

에6:8 왕께서 입으시는 왕복과 왕께서 타시는 말과 머리에 쓰시는 왕관을 가져다가

에6:9 그 왕복과 말을 왕의 신하 중 가장 존귀한 자의 손에 맡겨서 왕이 존귀하게 하시기를 원하시는 사람에게 옷을 입히고 말을 태워서 성 중 거리로 다니며 그 앞에서 반포하여 이르기를 왕이 존귀하게 하기를 원하시는 사람에게는 이같이 할 것이라 하게 하소서 하니라

에6:10 이에 왕이 하만에게 이르되 너는 네 말대로 속히 왕복과 말을 가져다가 대궐 문에 앉은 유다 사람 모르드개에게 행하되 무릇 네가 말한 것에서 조금도 빠짐이 없이 하라

에6:11 하만이 왕복과 말을 가져다가 모르드개에게 옷을 입히고 말을 태워 성 중 거리로 다니며 그 앞에서 반포하되 왕이 존귀하게 하시기를 원하시는 사람에게는 이같이 할 것이라 하니라

에6:12 모르드개는 다시 대궐 문으로 돌아오고 하만은 번뇌하여 머리를 싸고 급히 집으로 돌아가서

에6:13 자기가 당한 모든 일을 그의 아내 세레스와 모든 친구에게 말하매 그 중 지혜로운 자와 그의 아내 세레스가 이르되 모르드개가 과연 유다 사람의 후손이면 당신이 그 앞에서 굴욕을 당하기 시작하였으나 능히 그를 이기지 못하고 분명히 그 앞에 엎드러지리이다

에6:14 아직 말이 그치지 아니하여서 왕의 내시들이 이르러 하만을 데리고 에스더가 베푼 잔치에 빨리 나아가니라

로 마 서 1 장.

롬1:1 예수 그리스도의 종 바울은 사도로 부르심을 받아 하나님의 복음을 위하여 택정함을 입었으니

롬1:2 이 복음은 하나님이 선지자들을 통하여 그의 아들에 관하여 성경에 미리 약속하신 것이라

롬1:3 그의 아들에 관하여 말하면 육신으로는 다윗의 혈통에서 나셨고

롬1:4 성결의 영으로는 죽은 자들 가운데서 부활하사 능력으로 하나님의 아들로 선포되셨으니 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도시니라

롬1:5 그로 말미암아 우리가 은혜와 사도의 직분을 받아 그의 이름을 위하여 모든 이방인 중에서 믿어 순종하게 하나니

롬1:6 너희도 그들 중에서 예수 그리스도의 것으로 부르심을 받은 자니라

롬1:7 로마에서 하나님의 사랑하심을 받고 성도로 부르심을 받은 모든 자에게 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도로부터 은혜와 평강이 있기를 원하노라

롬1:8 먼저 내가 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 너희 모든 사람에 관하여 내 하나님께 감사함은 너희 믿음이 온 세상에 전파됨이로다

롬1:9 내가 그의 아들의 복음 안에서 내 심령으로 섬기는 하나님이 나의 증인이 되시거니와 항상 내 기도에 쉬지 않고 너희를 말하며

롬1:10 어떻게 하든지 이제 하나님의 뜻 안에서 너희에게로 나아갈 좋은 길 얻기를 구하노라

롬1:11 내가 너희 보기를 간절히 원하는 것은 어떤 신령한 은사를 너희에게 나누어 주어 너희를 견고하게 하려 함이니

롬1:12 이는 곧 내가 너희 가운데서 너희와 나의 믿음으로 말미암아 피차 안위함을 얻으려 함이라

롬1:13 형제들아 내가 여러 번 너희에게 가고자 한 것을 너희가 모르기를 원하지 아니하노니 이는 너희 중에서도 다른 이방인 중에서와 같이 열매를 맺게 하려 함이로되 지금까지 길이 막혔도다

롬1:14 헬라인이나 야만인이나 지혜 있는 자나 어리석은 자에게 다 내가 빚진 자라

롬1:15 그러므로 나는 할 수 있는 대로 로마에 있는 너희에게도 복음 전하기를 원하노라

롬1:16 내가 복음을 부끄러워하지 아니하노니 이 복음은 모든 믿는 자에게 구원을 주시는 하나님의 능력이 됨이라 먼저는 유대인에게요 그리고 헬라인에게로다

롬1:17 복음에는 하나님의 의가 나타나서 믿음으로 믿음에 이르게 하나니 기록된 바 오직 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라 함과 같으니라

롬1:18 하나님의 진노가 불의로 진리를 막는 사람들의 모든 경건하지 않음과 불의에 대하여 하늘로부터 나타나나니

롬1:19 이는 하나님을 알 만한 것이 그들 속에 보임이라 하나님께서 이를 그들에게 보이셨느니라

롬1:20 창세로부터 그의 보이지 아니하는 것들 곧 그의 영원하신 능력과 신성이 그가 만드신 만물에 분명히 보여 알려졌나니 그러므로 그들이 핑계하지 못할지니라

롬1:21 하나님을 알되 하나님을 영화롭게도 아니하며 감사하지도 아니하고 오히려 그 생각이 허망하여지며 미련한 마음이 어두워졌나니

롬1:22 스스로 지혜 있다 하나 어리석게 되어

롬1:23 썩어지지 아니하는 하나님의 영광을 썩어질 사람과 새와 짐승과 기어다니는 동물 모양의 우상으로 바꾸었느니라

롬1:24 그러므로 하나님께서 그들을 마음의 정욕대로 더러움에 내버려 두사 그들의 몸을 서로 욕되게 하셨으니

롬1:25 이는 그들이 하나님의 진리를 거짓 것으로 바꾸어 피조물을 조물주보다 더 경배하고 섬김이라 주는 곧 영원히 찬송할 이시로다 아멘

롬1:26 이 때문에 하나님께서 그들을 부끄러운 욕심에 내버려 두셨으니 곧 그들의 여자들도 순리대로 쓸 것을 바꾸어 역리로 쓰며

롬1:27 그와 같이 남자들도 순리대로 여자 쓰기를 버리고 서로 향하여 음욕이 불 일듯 하매 남자가 남자와 더불어 부끄러운 일을 행하여 그들의 그릇됨에 상당한 보응을 그들 자신이 받았느니라

롬1:28 또한 그들이 마음에 하나님 두기를 싫어하매 하나님께서 그들을 그 상실한 마음대로 내버려 두사 합당하지 못한 일을 하게 하셨으니

롬1:29 곧 모든 불의, 추악, 탐욕, 악의가 가득한 자요 시기, 살인, 분쟁, 사기, 악독이 가득한 자요 수군수군하는 자요

롬1:30 비방하는 자요 하나님께서 미워하시는 자요 능욕하는 자요 교만한 자요 자랑하는 자요 악을 도모하는 자요 부모를 거역하는 자요

롬1:31 우매한 자요 배약하는 자요 무정한 자요 무자비한 자라

롬1:32 그들이 이같은 일을 행하는 자는 사형에 해당한다고 하나님께서 정하심을 알고도 자기들만 행할 뿐 아니라 또한 그런 일을 행하는 자들을 옳다 하느니라

Genesis 30.

30:1 When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, "Give me children, or I'll die!"

30:2 Jacob became angry with her and said, "Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?"

30:3 Then she said, "Here is Bilhah, my maidservant. Sleep with her so that she can bear children for me and that through her I too can build a family."

30:4 So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife. Jacob slept with her,

30:5 and she became pregnant and bore him a son.

30:6 Then Rachel said, "God has vindicated me; he has listened to my plea and given me a son." Because of this she named him Dan.

30:7 Rachel's servant Bilhah conceived again and bore Jacob a second son.

30:8 Then Rachel said, "I have had a great struggle with my sister, and I have won." So she named him Naphtali.

30:9 When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her maidservant Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

30:10 Leah's servant Zilpah bore Jacob a son.

30:11 Then Leah said, "What good fortune!" So she named him Gad.

30:12 Leah's servant Zilpah bore Jacob a second son.

30:13 Then Leah said, "How happy I am! The women will call me happy." So she named him Asher.

30:14 During wheat harvest, Reuben went out into the fields and found some mandrake plants, which he brought to his mother Leah. Rachel said to Leah, "Please give me some of your son's mandrakes."

30:15 But she said to her, "Wasn't it enough that you took away my husband? Will you take my son's mandrakes too?" "Very well," Rachel said, "he can sleep with you tonight in return for your son's mandrakes."

30:16 So when Jacob came in from the fields that evening, Leah went out to meet him. "You must sleep with me," she said. "I have hired you with my son's mandrakes." So he slept with her that night.

30:17 God listened to Leah, and she became pregnant and bore Jacob a fifth son.

30:18 Then Leah said, "God has rewarded me for giving my maidservant to my husband." So she named him Issachar.

30:19 Leah conceived again and bore Jacob a sixth son.

30:20 Then Leah said, "God has presented me with a precious gift. This time my husband will treat me with honor, because I have borne him six sons." So she named him Zebulun.

30:21 Some time later she gave birth to a daughter and named her Dinah.

30:22 Then God remembered Rachel; he listened to her and opened her womb.

30:23 She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said, "God has taken away my disgrace."

30:24 She named him Joseph, and said, "May the LORD add to me another son."

30:25 After Rachel gave birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, "Send me on my way so I can go back to my own homeland.

30:26 Give me my wives and children, for whom I have served you, and I will be on my way. You know how much work I've done for you."

30:27 But Laban said to him, "If I have found favor in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you."

30:28 He added, "Name your wages, and I will pay them."

30:29 Jacob said to him, "You know how I have worked for you and how your livestock has fared under my care.

30:30 The little you had before I came has increased greatly, and the LORD has blessed you wherever I have been. But now, when may I do something for my own household?"

30:31 "What shall I give you?" he asked. "Don't give me anything," Jacob replied. "But if you will do this one thing for me, I will go on tending your flocks and watching over them:

30:32 Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb and every spotted or speckled goat. They will be my wages.

30:33 And my honesty will testify for me in the future, whenever you check on the wages you have paid me. Any goat in my possession that is not speckled or spotted, or any lamb that is not dark-colored, will be considered stolen."

30:34 "Agreed," said Laban. "Let it be as you have said."

30:35 That same day he removed all the male goats that were streaked or spotted, and all the speckled or spotted female goats (all that had white on them) and all the dark-colored lambs, and he placed them in the care of his sons.

30:36 Then he put a three-day journey between himself and Jacob, while Jacob continued to tend the rest of Laban's flocks.

30:37 Jacob, however, took fresh-cut branches from poplar, almond and plane trees and made white stripes on them by peeling the bark and exposing the white inner wood of the branches.

30:38 Then he placed the peeled branches in all the watering troughs, so that they would be directly in front of the flocks when they came to drink. When the flocks were in heat and came to drink,

30:39 they mated in front of the branches. And they bore young that were streaked or speckled or spotted.

30:40 Jacob set apart the young of the flock by themselves, but made the rest face the streaked and dark-colored animals that belonged to Laban. Thus he made separate flocks for himself and did not put them with Laban's animals.

30:41 Whenever the stronger females were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs in front of the animals so they would mate near the branches,

30:42 but if the animals were weak, he would not place them there. So the weak animals went to Laban and the strong ones to Jacob.

30:43 In this way the man grew exceedingly prosperous and came to own large flocks, and maidservants and menservants, and camels and donkeys.

Mark 1.

1:1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

1:2 It is written in Isaiah the prophet: "I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way"--

1:3 "a voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"

1:4 And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

1:5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

1:6 John wore clothing made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

1:7 And this was his message: "After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.

1:8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

1:9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

1:10 As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

1:11 And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."

1:12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert,

1:13 and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

1:14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.

1:15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

1:16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.

1:17 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."

1:18 At once they left their nets and followed him.

1:19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets.

1:20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

1:21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.

1:22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.

1:23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out,

1:24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"

1:25 "Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!"

1:26 The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.

1:27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching--and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him."

1:28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.

1:29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.

1:30 Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her.

1:31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

1:32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.

1:33 The whole town gathered at the door,

1:34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.

1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

1:36 Simon and his companions went to look for him,

1:37 and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!"

1:38 Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else--to the nearby villages--so I can preach there also. That is why I have come."

1:39 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.

1:40 A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean."

1:41 Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!"

1:42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.

1:43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:

1:44 "See that you don't tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them."

1:45 Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

Esther 6.

6:1 That night the king could not sleep; so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him.

6:2 It was found recorded there that Mordecai had exposed Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officers who guarded the doorway, who had conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.

6:3 "What honor and recognition has Mordecai received for this?" the king asked. "Nothing has been done for him," his attendants answered.

6:4 The king said, "Who is in the court?" Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the palace to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows he had erected for him.

6:5 His attendants answered, "Haman is standing in the court." "Bring him in," the king ordered.

6:6 When Haman entered, the king asked him, "What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?" Now Haman thought to himself, "Who is there that the king would rather honor than me?"

6:7 So he answered the king, "For the man the king delights to honor,

6:8 have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden, one with a royal crest placed on its head.

6:9 Then let the robe and horse be entrusted to one of the king's most noble princes. Let them robe the man the king delights to honor, and lead him on the horse through the city streets, proclaiming before him, 'This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!'"

6:10 "Go at once," the king commanded Haman. "Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king's gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommended."

6:11 So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, "This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!"

6:12 Afterward Mordecai returned to the king's gate. But Haman rushed home, with his head covered in grief,

6:13 and told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, "Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him--you will surely come to ruin!"

6:14 While they were still talking with him, the king's eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman away to the banquet Esther had prepared.

Romans 1.

1:1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God--

1:2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures

1:3 regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David,

1:4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

1:5 Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.

1:6 And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.

1:7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

1:9 God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you

1:10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.

1:11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong--

1:12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.

1:13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.

1:14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.

1:15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome.

1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

1:17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,

1:19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.

1:20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

1:22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools

1:23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

1:24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.

1:25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.

1:26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones.

1:27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

1:28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.

1:29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,

1:30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;

1:31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

1:32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
