창세기 14 장.

창14:1 당시에 시날 왕 아므라벨과 엘라살 왕 아리옥과 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 고임 왕 디달이

창14:2 소돔 왕 베라와 고모라 왕 비르사와 아드마 왕 시납과 스보임 왕 세메벨과 벨라 곧 소알 왕과 싸우니라

창14:3 이들이 다 싯딤 골짜기 곧 지금의 염해에 모였더라

창14:4 이들이 십이 년 동안 그돌라오멜을 섬기다가 제십삼년에 배반한지라

창14:5 제십사년에 그돌라오멜과 그와 함께 한 왕들이 나와서 아스드롯 가르나임에서 르바 족속을, 함에서 수스 족속을, 사웨 기랴다임에서 엠 족속을 치고

창14:6 호리 족속을 그 산 세일에서 쳐서 광야 근방 엘바란까지 이르렀으며

창14:7 그들이 돌이켜 엔미스밧 곧 가데스에 이르러 아말렉 족속의 온 땅과 하사손다말에 사는 아모리 족속을 친지라

창14:8 소돔 왕과 고모라 왕과 아드마 왕과 스보임 왕과 벨라 곧 소알 왕이 나와서 싯딤 골짜기에서 그들과 전쟁을 위하여 진을 쳤더니

창14:9 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 고임 왕 디달과 시날 왕 아므라벨과 엘라살 왕 아리옥 네 왕이 곧 그 다섯 왕과 맞서니라

창14:10 싯딤 골짜기에는 역청 구덩이가 많은지라 소돔 왕과 고모라 왕이 달아날 때에 그들이 거기 빠지고 그 나머지는 산으로 도망하매

창14:11 네 왕이 소돔과 고모라의 모든 재물과 양식을 빼앗아 가고

창14:12 소돔에 거주하는 아브람의 조카 롯도 사로잡고 그 재물까지 노략하여 갔더라

창14:13 도망한 자가 와서 히브리 사람 아브람에게 알리니 그 때에 아브람이 아모리 족속 마므레의 상수리 수풀 근처에 거주하였더라 마므레는 에스골의 형제요 또 아넬의 형제라 이들은 아브람과 동맹한 사람들이더라

창14:14 아브람이 그의 조카가 사로잡혔음을 듣고 집에서 길리고 훈련된 자 삼백십팔 명을 거느리고 단까지 쫓아가서

창14:15 그와 그의 가신들이 나뉘어 밤에 그들을 쳐부수고 다메섹 왼편 호바까지 쫓아가

창14:16 모든 빼앗겼던 재물과 자기의 조카 롯과 그의 재물과 또 부녀와 친척을 다 찾아왔더라

창14:17 아브람이 그돌라오멜과 그와 함께 한 왕들을 쳐부수고 돌아올 때에 소돔 왕이 사웨 골짜기 곧 왕의 골짜기로 나와 그를 영접하였고

창14:18 살렘 왕 멜기세덱이 떡과 포도주를 가지고 나왔으니 그는 지극히 높으신 하나님의 제사장이었더라

창14:19 그가 아브람에게 축복하여 이르되 천지의 주재이시요 지극히 높으신 하나님이여 아브람에게 복을 주옵소서

창14:20 너희 대적을 네 손에 붙이신 지극히 높으신 하나님을 찬송할지로다 하매 아브람이 그 얻은 것에서 십분의 일을 멜기세덱에게 주었더라

창14:21 소돔 왕이 아브람에게 이르되 사람은 내게 보내고 물품은 네가 가지라

창14:22 아브람이 소돔 왕에게 이르되 천지의 주재이시요 지극히 높으신 하나님 여호와께 내가 손을 들어 맹세하노니

창14:23 네 말이 내가 아브람으로 치부하게 하였다 할까 하여 네게 속한 것은 실 한 오라기나 들메끈 한 가닥도 내가 가지지 아니하리라

창14:24 오직 젊은이들이 먹은 것과 나와 동행한 아넬과 에스골과 마므레의 분깃을 제할지니 그들이 그 분깃을 가질 것이니라

마태복음 13 장.

마13:1 그 날 예수께서 집에서 나가사 바닷가에 앉으시매

마13:2 큰 무리가 그에게로 모여 들거늘 예수께서 배에 올라가 앉으시고 온 무리는 해변에 서 있더니

마13:3 예수께서 비유로 여러가지를 그들에게 말씀하여 이르시되 씨를 뿌리는 자가 뿌리러 나가서

마13:4 뿌릴새 더러는 길 가에 떨어지매 새들이 와서 먹어버렸고

마13:5 더러는 흙이 얕은 돌밭에 떨어지매 흙이 깊지 아니하므로 곧 싹이 나오나

마13:6 해가 돋은 후에 타서 뿌리가 없으므로 말랐고

마13:7 더러는 가시떨기 위에 떨어지매 가시가 자라서 기운을 막았고

마13:8 더러는 좋은 땅에 떨어지매 어떤 것은 백 배, 어떤 것은 육십 배, 어떤 것은 삼십 배의 결실을 하였느니라

마13:9 귀 있는 자는 들으라 하시니라

마13:10 제자들이 예수께 나아와 이르되 어찌하여 그들에게 비유로 말씀하시나이까

마13:11 대답하여 이르시되 천국의 비밀을 아는 것이 너희에게는 허락되었으나 그들에게는 아니되었나니

마13:12 무릇 있는 자는 받아 넉넉하게 되되 무릇 없는 자는 그 있는 것도 빼앗기리라

마13:13 그러므로 내가 그들에게 비유로 말하기는 그들이 보아도 보지 못하며 들어도 듣지 못하며 깨닫지 못함이니라

마13:14 이사야의 예언이 그들에게 이루었으니 일렀으되 너희가 듣기는 들어도 깨닫지 못할 것이요 보기는 보아도 알지 못하리라

마13:15 이 백성들의 마음이 완악하여져서 그 귀는 듣기에 둔하고 눈은 감았으니 이는 눈으로 보고 귀로 듣고 마음으로 깨달아 돌이켜 내게 고침을 받을까 두려워함이라 하였느니라

마13:16 그러나 너희 눈은 봄으로, 너희 귀는 들음으로 복이 있도다

마13:17 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 많은 선지자와 의인이 너희가 보는 것들을 보고자 하여도 보지 못하였고 너희가 듣는 것들을 듣고자 하여도 듣지 못하였느니라

마13:18 그런즉 씨 뿌리는 비유를 들으라

마13:19 아무나 천국 말씀을 듣고 깨닫지 못할 때는 악한 자가 와서 그 마음에 뿌려진 것을 빼앗나니 이는 곧 길 가에 뿌려진 자요

마13:20 돌밭에 뿌려졌다는 것은 말씀을 듣고 즉시 기쁨으로 받되

마13:21 그 속에 뿌리가 없어 잠시 견디다가 말씀으로 말미암아 환난이나 박해가 일어날 때에는 곧 넘어지는 자요

마13:22 가시 떨기에 뿌려졌다는 것은 말씀을 들으나 세상의 염려와 재물의 유혹에 말씀이 막혀 결실하지 못하는 자요

마13:23 좋은 땅에 뿌려졌다는 것은 말씀을 듣고 깨닫는 자니 결실하여 어떤 것은 백 배, 어떤 것은 육십 배, 어떤 것은 삼십 배가 되느니라 하시더라

마13:24 예수께서 그들 앞에 또 비유를 들어 이르시되 천국은 좋은 씨를 제 밭에 뿌린 사람과 같으니

마13:25 사람들이 잘 때에 그 원수가 와서 곡식 가운데 가라지를 덧뿌리고 갔더니

마13:26 싹이 나고 결실할 때에 가라지도 보이거늘

마13:27 집 주인의 종들이 와서 말하되 주여 밭에 좋은 씨를 뿌리지 아니하였나이까 그런데 가라지가 어디서 생겼나이까

마13:28 주인이 이르되 원수가 이렇게 하였구나 종들이 말하되 그러면 우리가 가서 이것을 뽑기를 원하시나이까

마13:29 주인이 이르되 가만 두라 가라지를 뽑다가 곡식까지 뽑을까 염려 하노라

마13:30 둘 다 추수 때까지 함께 자라게 두라 추수 때에 내가 추수꾼들에게 말하기를 가라지는 먼저 거두어 불사르게 단으로 묶고 곡식은 모아 내 곳간에 넣으라 하리라

마13:31 또 비유를 들어 이르시되 천국은 마치 사람이 자기 밭에 갖다 심은 겨자씨 한 알 같으니

마13:32 이는 모든 씨보다 작은 것이로되 자란 후에는 풀보다 커서 나무가 되매 공중의 새들이 와서 그 가지에 깃들이느니라

마13:33 또 비유로 말씀하시되 천국은 마치 여자가 가루 서 말 속에 갖다 넣어 전부 부풀게 한 누룩과 같으니라

마13:34 예수께서 이 모든 것을 무리에게 비유로 말씀하시고 비유가 아니면 아무 것도 말씀하지 아니하셨으니

마13:35 이는 선지자를 통하여 말씀하신 바 내가 입을 열어 비유로 말하고 창세부터 감추인 것들을 드러내리라 함을 이루려 하심이니라

마13:36 이에 예수께서 무리를 떠나사 집에 들어가시니 제자들이 나아와 이르되 밭의 가라지의 비유를 우리에게 설명하여 주소서

마13:37 대답하여 이르시되 좋은 씨를 뿌리는 이는 인자요

마13:38 밭은 세상이요 좋은 씨는 천국의 아들들이요 가라지는 악한 자의 아들들이요

마13:39 가라지를 뿌린 원수는 마귀요 추수 때는 세상 끝이요 추수꾼은 천사들이니

마13:40 그런즉 가라지를 거두어 불에 사르는 것같이 세상 끝에도 그러하리라

마13:41 인자가 그 천사들을 보내리니 그들이 그 나라에서 모든 넘어지게 하는 것과 또 불법을 행하는 자들을 거두어 내어

마13:42 풀무 불에 던져 넣으리니 거기서 울며 이를 갈게 되리라

마13:43 그 때에 의인들은 자기 아버지 나라에서 해와 같이 빛나리라 귀 있는 자는 들으라

마13:44 천국은 마치 밭에 감추인 보화와 같으니 사람이 이를 발견한 후 숨겨 두고 기뻐하며 돌아가서 자기의 소유를 다 팔아 그 밭을 사느니라

마13:45 또 천국은 마치 좋은 진주를 구하는 장사와 같으니

마13:46 극히 값진 진주 하나를 발견하매 가서 자기의 소유를 다 팔아 그 진주를 사느니라

마13:47 또 천국은 마치 바다에 치고 각종 물고기를 모는 그물과 같으니

마13:48 그물에 가득하매 물 가로 끌어 내고 앉아서 좋은 것은 그릇에 담고 못된 것은 내버리느니라

마13:49 세상 끝에도 이러하리라 천사들이 와서 의인 중에서 악인을 갈라 내어

마13:50 풀무 불에 던져 넣으리니 거기서 울며 이를 갈리라

마13:51 이 모든 것을 깨달았느냐 하시니 대답하되 그러하오이다

마13:52 예수께서 이르시되 그러므로 천국의 제자된 서기관마다 마치 새것과 옛것을 그 곳간에서 내오는 집주인과 같으니라

마13:53 예수께서 이 모든 비유를 마치신 후에 그 곳을 떠나서

마13:54 고향으로 돌아가사 그들의 회당에서 가르치시니 그들이 놀라 이르되 이 사람의 이 지혜와 이런 능력이 어디서 났느냐

마13:55 이는 그 목수의 아들이 아니냐 그 어머니는 마리아, 그 형제들은 야고보, 요셉, 시몬, 유다라 하지 않느냐

마13:56 그 누이들은 다 우리와 함께 있지 아니하냐 그런즉 이 사람의 이 모든 것이 어디서 났느냐 하고

마13:57 예수를 배척한지라 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시되 선지자가 자기 고향과 자기 집 외에서는 존경을 받지 않음이 없느니라 하시고

마13:58 그들이 믿지 않음으로 말미암아 거기서 많은 능력을 행하지 아니하시니라

느헤미야 3 장.

느3:1 그 때에 대제사장 엘리아십이 그의 형제 제사장들과 함께 일어나 양문을 건축하여 성별하 고 문짝을 달고 또 성벽을 건축하여 함메아 망대에서부터 하나넬 망대까지 성별하였고

느3:2 그 다음은 여리고 사람들이 건축하였고 또 그 다음은 이므리의 아들 삭굴이 건축하였으며

느3:3 어문은 하스나아의 자손들이 건축하여 그 들보를 얹고 문짝을 달고 자물쇠와 빗장을 갖추었고

느3:4 그 다음은 학고스의 손자 우리아의 아들 므레못이 중수하였고 그 다음은 므세사벨의 손자 베레갸의 아들 므둘람이 중수하였고 그 다음은 바아나의 아들 사독이 중수하였고

느3:5 그 다음은 드고아 사람들이 중수하였으나 그 귀족들은 그들의 주인들의 공사를 분담하지 아니하였으며

느3:6 옛 문은 바세아의 아들 요야다와 브소드야의 아들 므술람이 중수하여 그 들보를 얹고 문짝을 달고 자물쇠와 빗장을 갖추었고

느3:7 그 다음은 기브온 사람 믈라댜와 메로놋 사람 야돈이 강 서쪽 총독의 관할에 속한 기브온 사람들 및 미스바 사람들과 더불어 중수하였고

느3:8 그 다음은 금장색 할해야의 아들 웃시엘 등이 중수하였고 그 다음은 향품 장사 하나냐 등이 중수하되 그들이 예루살렘의 넓은 성벽까지 하였고

느3:9 그 다음은 예루살렘 지방의 절반을 다스리는 후르의 아들 르바야가 중수하였고

느3:10 그 다음은 하루맙의 아들 여다야가 자기 집과 마주 대한 곳을 중수하였고 그 다음은 하삽느야의 아들 핫두스가 중수하였고

느3:11 하림의 아들 말기야와 바핫모압의 아들 핫숩이 한 부분과 화덕 망대를 중수하였고

느3:12 그 다음은 예루살렘 지방 절반을 다스리는 할로헤스의 아들 살룸과 그의 딸들이 중수하였고

느3:13 골짜기 문은 하눈과 사노아 주민이 중수하여 문을 세우며 문짝을 달고 자물쇠와 빗장을 갖추고 또 분문까지 성벽 천 규빗을 중수하였고

느3:14 분문은 벧학게렘 지방을 다스리는 레갑의 아들 말기야가 중수하여 문을 세우며 문짝을 달고 자물쇠와 빗장을 갖추었고

느3:15 샘문은 미스바 지방을 다스리는 골호세의 아들 살룬이 중수하여 문을 세우고 덮었으며 문짝을 달고 자물쇠와 빗장을 갖추고 또 왕의 동산 근처 셀라 못 가의 성벽을 중수하여 다윗 성에서 내려오는 층계까지 이르렀고

느3:16 그 다음은 벧술 지방 절반을 다스리는 아스북의 아들 느헤미야가 중수하여 다윗의 묘실과 마주 대한 곳에 이르고 또 파서 만든 못을 지나 용사의 집까지 이르렀고

느3:17 그 다음은 레위 사람 바니의 아들 르훔이 중수하였고 그 다음은 그일라 지방 절반을 다스리는 하사뱌가 그 지방을 대표하여 중수하였고

느3:18 그 다음은 그들의 형제들 가운데 그일라 지방 절반을 다스리는 헤나닷의 아들 바왜가 중수하였고

느3:19 그 다음은 미스바를 다스리는 예수아의 아들 에셀이 한 부분을 중수하여 성 굽이에 있는 군기고 맞은편까지 이르렀고

느3:20 그 다음은 삽배의 아들 바룩이 한 부분을 힘써 중수하여 성 굽이에서부터 대제사장 엘리아십의 집 문에 이르렀고

느3:21 그 다음은 학고스의 손자 우리야의 아들 므레못이 한 부분을 중수하여 엘리아십의 집 문에서부터 엘리아십의 집 모퉁이에 이르렀고

느3:22 그 다음은 평지에 사는 제사장들이 중수하였고

느3:23 그 다음은 베냐민과 핫숩이 자기 집 맞은편 부분을 중수하였고 그 다음은 아나냐의 손자 마아세야의 아들 아사랴가 자기 집에서 가까운 부분을 중수하였고

느3:24 그 다음은 헤나닷의 아들 빈누이가 한 부분을 중수하되 아사랴의 집에서부터 성 굽이를 지나 성 모퉁이에 이르렀고

느3:25 우새의 아들 발랄은 성 굽이 맞은편과 왕의 윗 궁에서 내민 망대 맞은편 곧 시위청에서 가까운 부분을 중수하였고 그 다음은 바로스의 아들 브다야가 중수하였고

느3:26 (그 때에 느디님 사람은 오벨에 거주하여 동쪽 수문과 마주 대한 곳에서부터 내민 망대까지 이르렀느니라)

느3:27 그 다음은 드고아 사람들이 한 부분을 중수하여 내민 큰 망대와 마주 대한 곳에서부터 오벨 성벽까지 이르렀느니라

느3:28 마문 위로부터는 제사장들이 각각 자기 집과 마주 대한 부분을 중수하였고

느3:29 그 다음은 임멜의 아들 사독이 자기 집과 마주 대한 부분을 중수하였고 그 다음은 동문지기 스가냐의 아들 스마야가 중수하였고

느3:30 그 다음은 셀레먀의 아들 하나냐와 살랍의 여섯째 아들 하눈이 한 부분을 중수하였고 그 다음은 베레갸의 아들 므술람이 자기의 방과 마주 대한 부분을 중수하였고

느3:31 그 다음은 금장색 말기야가 함밉갓 문과 마주 대한 부분을 중수하여 느디님 사람과 상인들의 집에서부터 성 모퉁이 성루에 이르렀고

느3:32 성 모퉁이 성루에서 양문까지는 금장색과 상인들이 중수하였느니라

사도행전 13 장.

행13:1 안디옥 교회에 선지자들과 교사들이 있으니 곧 바나바와 니게르라 하는 시므온과 구레네 사람 루기오와 분봉 왕 헤롯의 젖동생 마나엔과 및 사울이라

행13:2 주를 섬겨 금식할 때에 성령이 이르시되 내가 불러 시키는 일을 위하여 바나바와 사울을 따로 세우라 하시니

행13:3 이에 금식하며 기도하고 두 사람에게 안수하여 보내니라

행13:4 두 사람이 성령의 보내심을 받아 실루기아에 내려가서 거기서 배를 타고 구브로에 가서

행13:5 살라미에 이르러 하나님의 말씀을 유대인의 여러 회당에서 전할새 요한을 수행원으로 두었더라

행13:6 온 섬 가운데로 지나서 바보에 이르러 바예수라 하는 유대인 거짓 선지자인 마술사를 만나니

행13:7 그가 총독 서기오 바울과 함께 있으니 서기오 바울은 지혜 있는 사람이라 바나바와 사울을 불러 하나님의 말씀을 듣고자 하더라

행13:8 이 마술사 엘루마는 (이 이름을 번역하면 마술사라) 그들을 대적하여 총독으로 믿지 못하게 힘쓰니

행13:9 바울이라고 하는 사울이 성령이 충만하여 그를 주목하고

행13:10 이르되 모든 거짓과 악행이 가득한 자요 마귀의 자식이요 모든 의의 원수여 주의 바른 길을 굽게 하기를 그치지 아니하겠느냐

행13:11 보라 이제 주의 손이 네 위에 있으니 네가 맹인이 되어 얼마 동안 해를 보지 못하리라 하니 즉시 안개와 어둠이 그를 덮어 인도할 사람을 두루 구하는지라

행13:12 이에 총독이 그렇게 된 것을 보고 믿으며 주의 가르치심을 놀랍게 여기니라

행13:13 바울과 및 동행하는 사람들이 바보에서 배 타고 밤빌리아에 있는 버가에 이르니 요한은 그들에게서 떠나 예루살렘으로 돌아가고

행13:14 그들은 버가에서 더 나아가 비시디아 안디옥에 이르러 안식일에 회당에 들어가 앉으니라

행13:15 율법과 선지자의 글을 읽은 후에 회당장들이 사람을 보내어 물어 이르되 형제들아 만일 백성을 권할 말이 있거든 말하라 하니

행13:16 바울이 일어나 손짓하며 말하되 이스라엘 사람들과 및 하나님을 경외하는 사람들아 들으라

행13:17 이 이스라엘 백성의 하나님이 우리 조상들을 택하시고 애굽 땅에서 나그네 된 그 백성을 높여 큰 권능으로 인도하여 내사

행13:18 광양에서 약 사십 년간 그들의 소행을 참으시고

행13:19 가나안 땅 일곱 족속을 멸하사 그 땅을 기업으로 주시기까지 약 사백오십 년간이라

행13:20 그 후에 선지자 사무엘 때까지 사사를 주셨더니

행13:21 그 후에 그들이 왕을 구하거늘 하나님이 베냐민 지파 사람 기스의 아들 사울을 사십 년간 주셨다가

행13:22 폐하시고 다윗을 왕으로 세우시고 증언하여 이르시되 내가 이새의 아들 다윗을 만나니 내 마음에 맞는 사람이라 내 뜻을 다 이루리라 하시더니

행13:23 하나님이 약속하신 대로 이 사람의 후손에서 이스라엘을 위하여 구주를 세우셨으니 곧 예수라

행13:24 그가 오시기에 앞서 요한이 먼저 회개의 세례를 이스라엘 모든 백성에게 전파하니라

행13:25 요한이 그 달려갈 길을 마칠 때에 말하되 너희가 나를 누구로 생각하느냐 나는 그리스도가 아니라 내 뒤에 오시는 이가 있으니 나는 그 발의 신발끈을 풀기도 감당하지 못하리라 하였으니

행13:26 형제들아 아브라함의 후손과 너희 중 하나님을 경외하는 사람들아 이 구원의 말씀을 우리에게 보내셨거늘

행13:27 예루살렘에 사는 자들과 그들 관리들이 예수와 및 안식일마다 외우는 바 선지자들의 말을 알지 못하므로 예수를 정죄하여 선지자들의 말을 응하게 하였도다

행13:28 죽일 죄를 하나도 찾지 못하였으나 빌라도에게 죽여 달라 하였으니

행13:29 성경에 그를 가리켜 기록한 말씀을 다 응하게 한 것이라 후에 나무에서 내려다가 무덤에 두었으나

행13:30 하나님이 죽은 자 가운데서 그를 살리신지라

행13:31 갈릴리로부터 예루살렘에 함께 올라간 사람들에게 여러 날 보이셨으니 그들이 이 백성 앞에서 그의 증인이라

행13:32 우리도 조상들에게 주신 약속을 너희에게 전파하노니

행13:33 곧 하나님이 예수를 일으키사 우리 자녀들에게 이 약속을 이루게 하셨다 함이라 시편 둘째 편에 기록된 바와 같이 너는 내 아들이라 오늘 너를 낳았다 하셨고

행13:34 또 하나님께서 죽은 자 가운데서 그를 일으키사 다시 썩음을 당하지 않게 하실 것을 가르쳐 이르시되 내가 다윗의 거룩하고 미쁜 은사를 너희에게 주리라 하셨으며

행13:35 또 다른 시편에 일렀으되 주의 거룩한 자로 썩음을 당하지 않게 하시리라 하셨느니라

행13:36 다윗은 당시에 하나님의 뜻을 따라 섬기다가 잠들어 그 조상들과 함께 묻혀 썩음을 당하였으되

행13:37 하나님께서 살리신 이는 썩음을 당하지 아니하였나니

행13:38 그러므로 형제들아 너희가 알 것은 이 사람을 힘입어 죄 사함을 너희에게 전하는 이것이며

행13:39 또 모세의 율법으로 너희가 의롭다 하심을 얻지 못하던 모든 일에도 이 사람을 힘입어 믿는 자마다 의롭다 하심을 얻는 이것이라

행13:40 그런즉 너희는 선지자들을 통하여 말씀하신 것이 너희에게 미칠까 삼가라

행13:41 일렀으되 보라 멸시하는 사람들아 너희는 놀라고 멸망하라 내가 너희 때를 당하여 한 일을 행할 것이니 사람이 너희에게 일러줄지라도 도무지 믿지 못할 일이라 하였느니라 하니라

행13:42 그들이 나갈새 사람들이 청하되 다음 안식일에도 이 말씀을 하라 하더라

행13:43 회당의 모임이 흩어진 후에 유대인과 유대교에 입교한 경건한 사람들이 많이 바울과 바나바를 다르니 두 사도가 더불어 말하고 항상 하나님의 은혜 가운데 있으라 권하니라

Genesis 14.

14:1 At this time Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goiim

14:2 went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).

14:3 All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (the Salt Sea).

14:4 For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

14:5 In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim

14:6 and the Horites in the hill country of Seir, as far as El Paran near the desert.

14:7 Then they turned back and went to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites who were living in Hazazon Tamar.

14:8 Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim

14:9 against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar--four kings against five.

14:10 Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.

14:11 The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away.

14:12 They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.

14:13 One who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram.

14:14 When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan.

14:15 During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.

14:16 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.

14:17 After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley).

14:18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High,

14:19 and he blessed Abram, saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.

14:20 And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

14:21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself."

14:22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and have taken an oath

14:23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.'

14:24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me--to Aner, Eshcol and Mamre. Let them have their share."

Matthew 13.

13:1 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake.

13:2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore.

13:3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed.

13:4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.

13:5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.

13:6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

13:7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.

13:8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop--a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

13:9 He who has ears, let him hear."

13:10 The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"

13:11 He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.

13:12 Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

13:13 This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

13:14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: "'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.

13:15 For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'

13:16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.

13:17 For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

13:18 "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:

13:19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

13:20 The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.

13:21 But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.

13:22 The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.

13:23 But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

13:24 Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.

13:25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.

13:26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

13:27 "The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?'

13:28 "'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'

13:29 "'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them.

13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'"

13:31 He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.

13:32 Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."

13:33 He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough."

13:34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.

13:35 So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world."

13:36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."

13:37 He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.

13:38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,

13:39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

13:40 "As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.

13:41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.

13:42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

13:43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

13:45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.

13:46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

13:47 "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.

13:48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.

13:49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous

13:50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

13:51 "Have you understood all these things?" Jesus asked. "Yes," they replied.

13:52 He said to them, "Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old."

13:53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there.

13:54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?" they asked.

13:55 "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?

13:56 Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"

13:57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor."

13:58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

Nehemiah 3.

3:1 Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate. They dedicated it and set its doors in place, building as far as the Tower of the Hundred, which they dedicated, and as far as the Tower of Hananel.

3:2 The men of Jericho built the adjoining section, and Zaccur son of Imri built next to them.

3:3 The Fish Gate was rebuilt by the sons of Hassenaah. They laid its beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place.

3:4 Meremoth son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, repaired the next section. Next to him Meshullam son of Berekiah, the son of Meshezabel, made repairs, and next to him Zadok son of Baana also made repairs.

3:5 The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa, but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.

3:6 The Jeshanah Gate was repaired by Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah. They laid its beams and put its doors and bolts and bars in place.

3:7 Next to them, repairs were made by men from Gibeon and Mizpah--Melatiah of Gibeon and Jadon of Meronoth--places under the authority of the governor of Trans-Euphrates.

3:8 Uzziel son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired the next section; and Hananiah, one of the perfume-makers, made repairs next to that. They restored Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall.

3:9 Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section.

3:10 Adjoining this, Jedaiah son of Harumaph made repairs opposite his house, and Hattush son of Hashabneiah made repairs next to him.

3:11 Malkijah son of Harim and Hasshub son of Pahath-Moab repaired another section and the Tower of the Ovens.

3:12 Shallum son of Hallohesh, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section with the help of his daughters.

3:13 The Valley Gate was repaired by Hanun and the residents of Zanoah. They rebuilt it and put its doors and bolts and bars in place. They also repaired five hundred yards of the wall as far as the Dung Gate.

3:14 The Dung Gate was repaired by Malkijah son of Recab, ruler of the district of Beth Hakkerem. He rebuilt it and put its doors and bolts and bars in place.

3:15 The Fountain Gate was repaired by Shallun son of Col-Hozeh, ruler of the district of Mizpah. He rebuilt it, roofing it over and putting its doors and bolts and bars in place. He also repaired the wall of the Pool of Siloam, by the King's Garden, as far as the steps going down from the City of David.

3:16 Beyond him, Nehemiah son of Azbuk, ruler of a half-district of Beth Zur, made repairs up to a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool and the House of the Heroes.

3:17 Next to him, the repairs were made by the Levites under Rehum son of Bani. Beside him, Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, carried out repairs for his district.

3:18 Next to him, the repairs were made by their countrymen under Binnui son of Henadad, ruler of the other half-district of Keilah.

3:19 Next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section, from a point facing the ascent to the armory as far as the angle.

3:20 Next to him, Baruch son of Zabbai zealously repaired another section, from the angle to the entrance of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

3:21 Next to him, Meremoth son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz, repaired another section, from the entrance of Eliashib's house to the end of it.

3:22 The repairs next to him were made by the priests from the surrounding region.

3:23 Beyond them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs in front of their house; and next to them, Azariah son of Maaseiah, the son of Ananiah, made repairs beside his house.

3:24 Next to him, Binnui son of Henadad repaired another section, from Azariah's house to the angle and the corner,

3:25 and Palal son of Uzai worked opposite the angle and the tower projecting from the upper palace near the court of the guard. Next to him, Pedaiah son of Parosh

3:26 and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs up to a point opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the projecting tower.

3:27 Next to them, the men of Tekoa repaired another section, from the great projecting tower to the wall of Ophel.

3:28 Above the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house.

3:29 Next to them, Zadok son of Immer made repairs opposite his house. Next to him, Shemaiah son of Shecaniah, the guard at the East Gate, made repairs.

3:30 Next to him, Hananiah son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. Next to them, Meshullam son of Berekiah made repairs opposite his living quarters.

3:31 Next to him, Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, made repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and the merchants, opposite the Inspection Gate, and as far as the room above the corner;

3:32 and between the room above the corner and the Sheep Gate the goldsmiths and merchants made repairs.

Acts (of the Apostles) 13.

13:1 In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.

13:2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

13:3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

13:4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.

13:5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.

13:6 They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,

13:7 who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God.

13:8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith.

13:9 Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said,

13:10 "You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?

13:11 Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of the sun." Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

13:12 When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.

13:13 From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem.

13:14 From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down.

13:15 After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak."

13:16 Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: "Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me!

13:17 The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt, with mighty power he led them out of that country,

13:18 he endured their conduct for about forty years in the desert,

13:19 he overthrew seven nations in Canaan and gave their land to his people as their inheritance.

13:20 All this took about 450 years. "After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.

13:21 Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.

13:22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'

13:23 "From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

13:24 Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel.

13:25 As John was completing his work, he said: 'Who do you think I am? I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'

13:26 "Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.

13:27 The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath.

13:28 Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.

13:29 When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

13:30 But God raised him from the dead,

13:31 and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.

13:32 "We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers

13:33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: "'You are my Son; today I have become your Father.'

13:34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: "'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.'

13:35 So it is stated elsewhere: "'You will not let your Holy One see decay.'

13:36 "For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.

13:37 But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.

13:38 "Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.

13:39 Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

13:40 Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:

13:41 "'Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.'"

13:42 As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath.

13:43 When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.

13:44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.

13:45 When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and talked abusively against what Paul was saying.

13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: "We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.

13:47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us: "'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'"

13:48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

13:49 The word of the Lord spread through the whole region.

13:50 But the Jews incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region.

13:51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.

13:52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
