창세기 7 장.

창7:1 여호와께서 노아에게 이르시되 너와 네 온 집은 방주로 들어가라 이 세대에서 네가 내 앞에 의로움을 내가 보았음이니라

창7:2 너는 모든 정결한 짐승은 암수 일곱씩, 부정한 것은 암수 둘씩을 네게로 데려오며

창7:3 공중의 새도 암수 일곱씩을 데려와 그 씨를 온 지면에 유전하게 하라

창7:4 지금부터 칠 일이면 내가 사십 주야를 땅에 비를 내려 내가 지은 모든 생물을 지면에서 쓸어버리리라

창7:5 노아가 여호와께서 자기에게 명하신 대로 다 준행하였더라

창7:6 홍수가 땅에 있을 때에 노아가 육백 세라

창7:7 노아는 아들들과 아내와 며느리들과 함께 홍수를 피하여 방주에 들어갔고

창7:8 정결한 짐승과 부정한 짐승과 새와 땅에 기는 모든 것은

창7:9 하나님이 노아에게 명하신 대로 암수 둘씩 노아에게 나아와 방주로 들어갔으며

창7:10 칠 일 후에 홍수가 땅에 덮이니

창7:11 노아가 육백 세 되던 해 둘째 달 곧 그 달 열이렛날이라 그 날에 큰 깊음의 샘들이 터지며 하늘의 창문들이 열려

창7:12 사십 주야를 비가 땅에 쏟아졌더라

창7:13 곧 그 날에 노아와 그의 아들 셈, 함, 야벳과 노아의 아내와 세 며느리가 다 방주로 들어갔고

창7:14 그들과 모든 들짐승이 그 종류대로, 모든 가축이 그 종류대로, 땅에 기는 모든 것이 그 종류대로, 모든 새가 그 종류대로

창7:15 무릇 생명의 기운이 있는 육체가 둘씩 노아에게 나아와 방주로 들어갔으니

창7:16 들어간 것들은 모든 것의 암수라 하나님이 그에게 명하신 대로 들어가매 여호와께서 그를 들여보내고 문을 닫으시니라

창7:17 홍수가 땅에 사십 일 동안 계속된지라 물이 많아져 방주가 땅에서 떠올랐고

창7:18 물이 더 많아져 땅에 넘치매 방주가 물 위에 떠 다녔으며

창7:19 물이 땅에 더욱 넘치매 천하의 높은 산이 다 잠겼더니

창7:20 물이 불어서 십오 규빗이나 오르니 산들이 잠긴지라

창7:21 땅 위에 움직이는 생물이 다 죽었으니 곧 새와 가축과 들짐승과 땅에 기는 모든 것과 모든 사람이라

창7:22 육지에 있어 그 코에 생명의 기운의 숨이 있는 것은 다 죽었더라

창7:23 지면의 모든 생물을 쓸어버리시니 곧 사람과 가축과 기는 것과 공중의 새까지라 이들은 땅에서 쓸어버림을 당하였으되 오직 노아와 그와 함께 방주에 있던 자들만 남았더라

창7:24 물이 백오십 일을 땅에 넘쳤더라

마태복음 7 장.

마7:1 비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라

마7:2 너희가 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요 너희가 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희가 헤아림을 받을 것이니라

마7:3 어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보고 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐

마7:4 보라 네 눈 속에 들보가 있는데 어찌하여 형제에게 말하기를 나로 네 눈 속에 있는 티를 빼게 하라 하겠느냐

마7:5 외식하는 자여 먼저 네 눈 속에서 들보를 빼어라 그 후에야 밝히 보고 형제의 눈 속에서 티를 빼리라

마7:6 거룩한 것을 개에게 주지 말며 너희 진주를 돼지 앞에 던지지 말라 그들이 그것을 발로 밟고 돌이켜 너희를 찢어 상하게 할까 염려하라

마7:7 구하라 그리하면 너희에게 주실 것이요 찾으라 그리하면 찾아낼 것이요 문을 두드리라 그리하면 너희에게 열릴 것이니

마7:8 구하는 이마다 받을 것이요 찾는 이는 찾아낼 것이요 두드리는 이에게는 열릴 것이니라

마7:9 너희 중에 누가 아들이 떡을 달라 하는데 돌을 주며

마7:10 생선을 달라 하는데 뱀을 줄 사람이 있겠느냐

마7:11 너희가 악한 자라도 좋은 것으로 자식에게 줄 줄 알거든 하물며 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서 구하는 자에게 좋은 것으로 주시지 않겠느냐

마7:12 그러므로 무엇이든지 남에게 대접을 받고자 하는 대로 너희도 남을 대접하라 이것이 율법이요 선지자니라

마7:13 좁은 문으로 들어가라 멸망으로 인도하는 문은 크고 그 길이 넓어 그리로 들어가는 자가 많고

마7:14 생명으로 인도하는 문은 좁고 길이 협착하여 찾는 이가 적음이라

마7:15 거짓 선지자들을 삼가라 양의 옷을 입고 너희에게 나아오나 속에는 노략질하는 이리라

마7:16 그들의 열매로 그들을 알찌니 가시나무에서 포도를, 또는 엉겅퀴에서 무화과를 따겠느냐

마7:17 이와 같이 좋은 나무마다 아름다운 열매를 맺고 못된 나무가 나쁜 열매를 맺나니

마7:18 좋은 나무가 나쁜 열매를 맺을 수 없고 못된 나무가 아름다운 열매를 맺을 수 없느니라

마7:19 아름다운 열매를 맺지 아니하는 나무마다 찍혀 불에 던져지느니라

마7:20 이러므로 그들의 열매로 그들을 알리라

마7:21 나더러 주여 주여 하는 자마다 다 천국에 들어갈 것이 아니요 다만 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 뜻대로 행하는 자라야 들어가리라

마7:22 그 날에 많은 사람이 나더러 이르되 주여 주여 우리가 주의 이름으로 선지자 노릇하며 주의 이름으로 귀신을 쫓아 내며 주의 이름으로 많은 권능을 행하지 아니하였나이까 하리니

마7:23 그 때에 내가 저희에게 밝히 말하되 내가 너희를 도무지 알지 못하니 불법을 행하는 자들아 내게서 떠나가라 하리라

마7:24 그러므로 누구든지 나의 이 말을 듣고 행하는 자는 그 집을 반석 위에 지은 지혜로운 사람 같으리니

마7:25 비가 내리고 창수가 나고 바람이 불어 그 집에 부딪치되 무너지지 아니하나니 이는 주추를 반석 위에 놓은 까닭요

마7:26 나의 이 말을 듣고 행하지 아니하는 자는 그 집을 모래 위에 지은 어리석은 사람 같으리니

마7:27 비가 내리고 창수가 나고 바람이 불어 그 집에 부딪치매 무너져 그 무너짐이 심하니라

마7:28 예수께서 이 말씀을 마치시매 무리들이 그 가르치심에 놀라니

마7:29 이는 그 가르치시는 것이 권위 있는 자와 같고 그들의 서기관들과 같지 아니함일러라

에스라 7 장.

스7:1 이 일 후에 바사 왕 아닥사스다가 왕위에 있을 때에 에스라라 하는 자가 있으니라 그는 스라야의 아들이요 아사랴의 손자요 힐기야의 증손이요

스7:2 살룸의 현손이요 사독의 오대 손이요 아히둡의 육대 손이요

스7:3 아마랴의 칠대 손이요 아사랴의 팔대 손이요 므라욧의 구대 손이요

스7:4 스라히야의 십대 손이요 웃시엘의 십일대 손이요 북기의 십이대 손이요

스7:5 아비수아의 십삼대 손이요 비느하스의 십사대 손이요 엘르아살의 십오대 손이요 대제사장 아론의 십육대 손이라

스7:6 이 에스라가 바벨론에서 올라왔으니 그는 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 주신 모세의 율법에 익숙한 학자로서 그의 하나님 여호와의 도우심을 입음으로 왕에게 구하는 것은 다 받는 자이더니

스7:7 아닥사스다 왕 제칠년에 이스라엘 자손과 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 노래하는 자들과 문지기들과 느디님 사람들 중에 몇 사람이 예루살렘으로 올라올 때에

스7:8 이 에스라가 올라왔으니 왕의 제칠년 다섯째 달이라

스7:9 첫째 달 초하루에 바벨론에서 길을 떠났고 하나님의 선한 손의 도우심을 입어 다섯째 달 초하루에 예루살렘에 이르니라

스7:10 에스라가 여호와의 율법을 연구하여 준행하며 율례와 규례를 이스라엘에게 가르치기로 결심하였었더라

스7:11 여호와의 계명의 말씀과 이스라엘에게 주신 율례 학자요 학자 겸 제사장인 에스라에게 아닥사스다 왕이 내린 조서의 초본은 아래와 같으니라

스7:12 모든 왕의 왕 아닥사스다는 하늘의 하나님과 율법에 완전한 학자 겸 제사장 에스라에게

스7:13 조서를 내리노니 우리 나라에 있는 이스라엘 백성과 그들 제사장들과 레위 사람들 중에 예루살렘으로 올라갈 뜻이 있는 자는 누구든지 너와 함께 갈지어다

스7:14 너는 네 손에 있는 네 하나님의 율법을 따라 유다와 예루살렘의 형편을 살피기 위하여 왕과 일곱 자문관의 보냄을 받았으니

스7:15 왕과 자문관들이 예루살렘에 거하시는 이스라엘 하나님께 성심으로 드리는 은금을 가져가고

스7:16 또 네가 바벨론 온 도에서 얻을 모든 은금과 및 백성과 제사장들이 예루살렘에 있는 그들의 하나님의 성전을 위하여 기쁘게 드릴 예물을 가져다가

스7:17 그들의 돈으로 수송아지와 숫양과 어린 양과 그 소제와 그 전제의 물품을 신속히 사서 예루살렘 네 하나님의 성전 제단 위에 드리고

스7:18 그 나머지 은금은 너와 너의 형제가 좋게 여기는 일에 너희 하나님의 뜻을 따라 쓸지며

스7:19 네 하나님의 성전에서 섬기는 일을 위하여 네게 준 그릇은 예루살렘 하나님 앞에 드리고

스7:20 그 외에도 네 하나님의 성전에 쓰일 것이 있어서 네가 드리고자 하거든 무엇이든지 궁중창고에서 내다가 드릴지니라

스7:21 나 곧 아닥사스다 왕이 유브라데 강 건너편 모든 창고지기에게 조서를 내려 이르기를 하늘의 하나님의 율법 학자 겸 제사장 에스라가 무릇 너희에게 구하는 것을 신속히 시행하되

스7:22 은은 백 달란트까지, 밀은 백 고르까지, 포도주는 백 밧까지, 기름도 백 밧까지 하고 소금은 정량 없이 하라

스7:23 무릇 하늘의 하나님의 전을 위하여 하늘의 하나님이 명령하신 것은 삼가 행하라 어찌하여 진노가 왕과 왕자의 나라에 임하게 하랴

스7:24 내가 너희에게 이르노니 제사장들이나 레위 사람들이나 노래하는 자들이나 문지기들이나 느디님 사람들이나 혹 하나님의 성전에서 일하는 자들에게 조공과 관세와 통행세를 받는 것이 옳지 않으니라 하였노라

스7:25 에스라여 너는 네 손에 있는 네 하나님의 지혜를 따라 네 하나님의 율법을 아는 자를 법관과 재판관을 삼아 강 건너편 모든 백성을 재판하게 하고 그 중 알지 못하는 자는 너희가 가르치라

스7:26 무릇 네 하나님의 명령과 왕의 명령을 준행하지 아니하는 자는 속히 그 죄를 정하여 혹 죽이거나 귀양 보내거나 가산을 몰수하거나 옥에 가둘지니라 하였더라

스7:27 우리 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 송축할지로다 그가 왕의 마음에 예루살렘 여호와의 성전을 아름답게 할 뜻을 두시고

스7:28 또 나로 왕과 그의 보좌관들 앞과 왕의 권세 있는 모든 방백의 앞에서 은혜를 얻게 하셨도다 내 하나님 여호와의 손이 내 위에 있으므로 내가 힘을 얻어 이스라엘 중에 우두머리들을 모아 나와 함께 올라오게 하였노라

사도행전 7 장.

행7:1 대제사장이 이르되 이것이 사실이냐

행7:2 스데반이 이르되 여러분 부형들이여 들으소서 우리 조상 아브라함이 하란에 있기 전 메소보다미아에 있을 때에 영광의 하나님이 그에게 보여

행7:3 이르시되 네 고향과 친척을 떠나 내가 네게 보일 땅으로 가라 하시니

행7:4 아브라함이 갈대아 사람의 땅을 떠나 하란에 거하다가 그의 아버지가 죽으매 하나님이 그를 거기서 너희 지금 사는 이 땅으로 옮기셨느니라

행7:5 그러나 여기서 발 붙일 만한 땅도 유업으로 주지 아니하시고 다만 이 땅을 아직 자식도 없는 그와 그의 후손에게 소유로 주신다고 약속하셨으며

행7:6 하나님이 또 이같이 말씀하시되 그 후손이 다른 땅에서 나그네가 되리니 그 땅 사람들이 종으로 삼아 사백 년 동안을 괴롭게 하리라 하시고

행7:7 또 이르시되 종 삼는 나라를 내가 심판하리니 그 후에 그들이 나와서 이 곳에서 나를 섬기리라 하시고

행7:8 할례의 언약을 아브라함에게 주셨더니 그가 이삭을 낳아 여드레만에 할례를 행하고 이삭이 야곱을, 야곱이 우리 열두 조상을 낳으니라

행7:9 여러 조상이 요셉을 시기하여 애굽에 팔았더니 하나님이 그와 함께 계서

행7:10 그 모든 환난에서 건져내사 애굽 왕 바로 앞에서 은총과 지혜를 주시매 바로가 그를 애굽과 자기 온 집의 통치자로 세웠느니라

행7:11 그 때에 애굽과 가나안 온 땅에 흉년이 들어 큰 환난이 있을새 우리 조상들이 양식이 없는지라

행7:12 야곱이 애굽에 곡식이 있다는 말을 듣고 먼저 우리 조상들을 보내고

행7:13 또 재차 보내매 요셉이 자기 형제들에게 알려지게 되고 또 요셉의 친족이 바로에게 드러나게 되니라

행7:14 요셉이 사람을 보내어 그의 아버지 야곱과 온 친족 일흔다섯 사람을 청하였더니

행7:15 야곱이 애굽으로 내려가 자기와 우리 조상들이 거기서 죽고

행7:16 세겜으로 옮겨져 아브라함이 세겜 하몰의 자손에게서 은으로 값 주고 산 무덤에 장사되니라

행7:17 하나님이 아브라함에게 약속하신 때가 가까우매 이스라엘 백성이 애굽에서 번성하여 많아졌더니

행7:18 요셉을 알지 못하는 새 임금이 애굽 왕위에 오르매

행7:19 그가 우리 족속에게 교활한 방법을 써서 조상들을 괴롭게 하여 그 어린 아이들을 내버려 살지 못하게 하려 할새

행7:20 그 때에 모세가 났는데 하나님 보시기에 아름다운지라 그의 아버지의 집에서 석 달 동안 길리더니

행7:21 버려진 후에 바로의 딸이 그를 데려다가 자기 아들로 기르매

행7:22 모세가 애굽 사람의 모든 지혜를 배워 그의 말과 하는 일들이 능하더라

행7:23 나이가 사십이 되매 그 형제 이스라엘 자손을 돌볼 생각이 나더니

행7:24 한 사람이 원통한 일을 당함을 보고 보호하여 압제 받는 자를 위하여 원수를 갚아 애굽 사람을 쳐 죽이니라

행7:25 그는 그의 형제들이 하나님께서 자기의 손을 통하여 구원해 주시는 것을 깨달으리라고 생각하였으나 그들이 깨닫지 못하였더라

행7:26 이튿날 이스라엘 사람끼리 싸울 때에 모세가 와서 화해시키려 하여 이르되 너희는 형제인데 어찌 서로 해치느냐 하니

행7:27 그 동무를 해치는 사람이 모세를 밀어뜨려 이르되 누가 너를 관리와 재판장으로 우리 위에 세웠느냐

행7:28 네가 어제는 애굽 사람을 죽임과 같이 또 나를 죽이려느냐 하니

행7:29 모세가 이 말 때문에 도주하여 미디안 땅에서 나그네 되어 거기서 아들 둘을 낳으니라

행7:30 사십 년이 차매 천사가 시내 산 광야 가시나무 떨기 불꽃 가운데서 그에게 보이거늘

행7:31 모세가 그 광경을 보고 놀랍게 여겨 알아보려고 가까이 가니 주의 소리가 있어

행7:32 나는 네 조상의 하나님 즉 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 하나님이라 하신대 모세가 무서워 감히 바라보지 못하더라

행7:33 주께서 이르시되 네 발의 신을 벗으라 네가 서 있는 곳은 거룩한 땅이니라

행7:34 내 백성이 애굽에서 괴로움 받음을 내가 확실히 보고 그 탄식하는 소리를 듣고 그들을 구원하려고 내려왔노니 이제 내가 너를 애굽으로 보내리라 하시니라

행7:35 그들의 말이 누가 너를 관리와 재판장으로 세웠느냐 하며 거절하던 그 모세를 하나님은 가시나무 떨기 가운데서 보이던 천사의 손으로 관리와 속량하는 자로서 보내셨으니

행7:36 이 사람이 백성을 인도하여 나오게 하고 애굽과 홍해와 광야에서 사십 년간 기사와 표적을 행하였느니라

행7:37 이스라엘 자손에 대하여 하나님이 너희 형제 가운데서 나와 같은 선지자를 세우리라 하던 자가 곧 이 모세라

행7:38 시내 산에서 말하던 그 천사와 우리 조상들과 함께 광야 교회에 있었고 또 살아 있는 말씀을 받아 우리에게 주던 자가 이 사람이라

행7:39 우리 조상들이 모세에게 복종하지 아니하고자 하여 거절하며 그 마음이 도리어 애굽으로 향하여

행7:40 아론더러 이르되 우리를 인도할 신들을 우리를 위하여 만들라 애굽 땅에서 우리를 인도하던 이 모세는 어떻게 되었는지 알지 못하노라 하고

행7:41 그 때에 그들이 송아지를 만들어 그 우상 앞에 제사하며 자기 손으로 만든 것을 기뻐하더니

행7:42 하나님이 외면하사 그들을 그 하늘의 군대 섬기는 일에 버려 두셨으니 이는 선지자의 책에 기록된 바 이스라엘의 집이여 너희가 광야에서 사십 년간 희생과 제물을 내게 드린 일이 있었느냐

행7:43 몰록의 장막과 신 레판의 별을 받들었음이여 이것은 너희가 절하고자 하여 만든 형상이로다 내가 너희를 바벨론 밖으로 옮기리라 함과 같으니라

행7:44 광야에서 우리 조상들에게 증거의 장막이 있었으니 이것은 모세에게 말씀하신 이가 명하사 그가 본 그 양식대로 만들게 하신 것이라

행7:45 우리 조상들이 그것을 받아 하나님이 그들 앞에서 쫓아내신 이방인의 땅을 점령할 때에 여호수아와 함께 가지고 들어가서 다윗 때까지 이르니라

행7:46 다윗이 하나님 앞에서 은혜를 받아 야곱의 집을 위하여 하나님의 처소를 준비하게 하여 달라고 하더니

행7:47 솔로몬이 그를 위하여 집을 지었느니라

행7:48 그러나 지극히 높으신 이는 손으로 지은 곳에 계시지 아니하시나니 선지자가 말한 바

행7:49 주께서 이르시되 하늘은 나의 보좌요 땅은 나의 발등상이니 너희가 나를 위하여 무슨 집을 짓겠으며 나의 안식할 처소가 어디냐

행7:50 이 모든 것이 다 내 손으로 지은 것이 아니야 함과 같으니라

행7:51 목이 곧고 마음과 귀에 할례를 받지 못한 사람들아 너희도 너희 조상과 같이 항상 성령을 거스르는도다

행7:52 너희 조상들이 선지자들 중의 누구를 박해하지 아니하였느냐 의인이 오시리라 예고한 자들을 그들이 죽였고 이제 너희는 그 의인을 잡아 준 자요 살인한 자가 되나니

행7:53 너희는 천사가 전한 율법을 받고도 지키지 아니하였도다 하니라

행7:54 그들이 이 말을 듣고 마음에 찔려 그를 향하여 이를 갈거늘

행7:55 스데반이 성령 충만하여 하늘을 우러러 주목하여 하나님의 영광과 및 예수께서 하나님 우편에 서신 것을 보고

행7:56 말하되 보라 하늘이 열리고 인자가 하나님 우편에 서신 것을 보노라 한 대

행7:57 그들이 큰 소리를 지르며 귀를 막고 일제히 그에게 달려들어

행7:58 성 밖으로 내치고 돌로 칠새 증인들이 옷을 벗어 사울이라 하는 청년의 발 앞에 두니라

행7:59 그들이 돌로 스데반을 치니 스데반이 부르짖어 이르되 주 예수여 내 영혼을 받으시옵소서 하고

행7:60 무릎을 꿇고 크게 불러 이르되 주여 이 죄를 그들에게 돌리지 마옵소서 이 말을 하고 자니라

Genesis 7.

7:1 The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.

7:2 Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate,

7:3 and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.

7:4 Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made."

7:5 And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him.

7:6 Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth.

7:7 And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood.

7:8 Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground,

7:9 male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah.

7:10 And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.

7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month--on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

7:12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.

7:13 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.

7:14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings.

7:15 Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark.

7:16 The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in.

7:17 For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth.

7:18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.

7:19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.

7:20 The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet.

7:21 Every living thing that moved on the earth perished--birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.

7:22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.

7:23 Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.

7:24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

Matthew 7.

7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged.

7:2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

7:3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

7:4 How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

7:5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

7:6 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

7:8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

7:9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

7:10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

7:11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

7:12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

7:13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

7:14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

7:15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

7:16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

7:17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.

7:19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

7:20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

7:22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'

7:23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

7:24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

7:25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

7:26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

7:27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

7:28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,

7:29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

Ezra 7.

7:1 After these things, during the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

7:2 the son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

7:3 the son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

7:4 the son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

7:5 the son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest--

7:6 this Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him.

7:7 Some of the Israelites, including priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers and temple servants, also came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

7:8 Ezra arrived in Jerusalem in the fifth month of the seventh year of the king.

7:9 He had begun his journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month, for the gracious hand of his God was on him.

7:10 For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.

7:11 This is a copy of the letter King Artaxerxes had given to Ezra the priest and teacher, a man learned in matters concerning the commands and decrees of the LORD for Israel:

7:12 Artaxerxes, king of kings, To Ezra the priest, a teacher of the Law of the God of heaven: Greetings.

7:13 Now I decree that any of the Israelites in my kingdom, including priests and Levites, who wish to go to Jerusalem with you, may go.

7:14 You are sent by the king and his seven advisers to inquire about Judah and Jerusalem with regard to the Law of your God, which is in your hand.

7:15 Moreover, you are to take with you the silver and gold that the king and his advisers have freely given to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,

7:16 together with all the silver and gold you may obtain from the province of Babylon, as well as the freewill offerings of the people and priests for the temple of their God in Jerusalem.

7:17 With this money be sure to buy bulls, rams and male lambs, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings, and sacrifice them on the altar of the temple of your God in Jerusalem.

7:18 You and your brother Jews may then do whatever seems best with the rest of the silver and gold, in accordance with the will of your God.

7:19 Deliver to the God of Jerusalem all the articles entrusted to you for worship in the temple of your God.

7:20 And anything else needed for the temple of your God that you may have occasion to supply, you may provide from the royal treasury.

7:21 Now I, King Artaxerxes, order all the treasurers of Trans-Euphrates to provide with diligence whatever Ezra the priest, a teacher of the Law of the God of heaven, may ask of you--

7:22 up to a hundred talents of silver, a hundred cors of wheat, a hundred baths of wine, a hundred baths of olive oil, and salt without limit.

7:23 Whatever the God of heaven has prescribed, let it be done with diligence for the temple of the God of heaven. Why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and of his sons?

7:24 You are also to know that you have no authority to impose taxes, tribute or duty on any of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants or other workers at this house of God.

7:25 And you, Ezra, in accordance with the wisdom of your God, which you possess, appoint magistrates and judges to administer justice to all the people of Trans-Euphrates--all who know the laws of your God. And you are to teach any who do not know them.

7:26 Whoever does not obey the law of your God and the law of the king must surely be punished by death, banishment, confiscation of property, or imprisonment.

7:27 Praise be to the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put it into the king's heart to bring honor to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem in this way

7:28 and who has extended his good favor to me before the king and his advisers and all the king's powerful officials. Because the hand of the LORD my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me.

Acts (of the Apostles) 7.

7:1 Then the high priest asked him, "Are these charges true?"

7:2 To this he replied: "Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran.

7:3 'Leave your country and your people,' God said, 'and go to the land I will show you.'

7:4 "So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.

7:5 He gave him no inheritance here, not even a foot of ground. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.

7:6 God spoke to him in this way: 'Your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated four hundred years.

7:7 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves,' God said, 'and afterward they will come out of that country and worship me in this place.'

7:8 Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

7:9 "Because the patriarchs were jealous of Joseph, they sold him as a slave into Egypt. But God was with him

7:10 and rescued him from all his troubles. He gave Joseph wisdom and enabled him to gain the goodwill of Pharaoh king of Egypt; so he made him ruler over Egypt and all his palace.

7:11 "Then a famine struck all Egypt and Canaan, bringing great suffering, and our fathers could not find food.

7:12 When Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers on their first visit.

7:13 On their second visit, Joseph told his brothers who he was, and Pharaoh learned about Joseph's family.

7:14 After this, Joseph sent for his father Jacob and his whole family, seventy-five in all.

7:15 Then Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our fathers died.

7:16 Their bodies were brought back to Shechem and placed in the tomb that Abraham had bought from the sons of Hamor at Shechem for a certain sum of money.

7:17 "As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt greatly increased.

7:18 Then another king, who knew nothing about Joseph, became ruler of Egypt.

7:19 He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our forefathers by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die.

7:20 "At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for in his father's house.

7:21 When he was placed outside, Pharaoh's daughter took him and brought him up as her own son.

7:22 Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.

7:23 "When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites.

7:24 He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian.

7:25 Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.

7:26 The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, 'Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?'

7:27 "But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, 'Who made you ruler and judge over us?

7:28 Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?'

7:29 When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.

7:30 "After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.

7:31 When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to look more closely, he heard the Lord's voice:

7:32 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.' Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.

7:33 "Then the Lord said to him, 'Take off your sandals; the place where you are standing is holy ground.

7:34 I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.'

7:35 "This is the same Moses whom they had rejected with the words, 'Who made you ruler and judge?' He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

7:36 He led them out of Egypt and did wonders and miraculous signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the desert.

7:37 "This is that Moses who told the Israelites, 'God will send you a prophet like me from your own people.'

7:38 He was in the assembly in the desert, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to us.

7:39 "But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.

7:40 They told Aaron, 'Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who led us out of Egypt--we don't know what has happened to him!'

7:41 That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and held a celebration in honor of what their hands had made.

7:42 But God turned away and gave them over to the worship of the heavenly bodies. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets: "'Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?

7:43 You have lifted up the shrine of Molech and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile' beyond Babylon.

7:44 "Our forefathers had the tabernacle of the Testimony with them in the desert. It had been made as God directed Moses, according to the pattern he had seen.

7:45 Having received the tabernacle, our fathers under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David,

7:46 who enjoyed God's favor and asked that he might provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.

7:47 But it was Solomon who built the house for him.

7:48 "However, the Most High does not live in houses made by men. As the prophet says:

7:49 "'Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord. Or where will my resting place be?

7:50 Has not my hand made all these things?'

7:51 "You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!

7:52 Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him--

7:53 you who have received the law that was put into effect through angels but have not obeyed it."

7:54 When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him.

7:55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

7:56 "Look," he said, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."

7:57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,

7:58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.

7:59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

7:60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.
