역대상 28 장.

대상28:1 다윗이 이스라엘 모든 고관들 곧 각 지파의 어른과 왕을 섬기는 반장들과 천부장들과 백부장들과 및 왕과 왕자의 모든 소유와 가축의 감독과 내시와 장사와 모든 용사를 예루살렘으로 소집하고

대상28:2 이에 다윗 왕이 일어서서 이르되 나의 형제들 나의 백성들아 내 말을 들으라 나는 여호와의 언약궤 곧 우리 하나님의 발판을 봉안할 성전을 건축할 마음이 있어서 건축할 재료를 준비하였으나

대상28:3 하나님이 내게 이르시되 너는 전쟁을 많이 한 사람이라 피를 많이 흘렸으니 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하지 못하리라 하셨느니라

대상28:4 그러나 이스라엘 하나님 여호와께서 전에 나를 내 부친의 온 집에서 택하여 영원히 이스라엘 왕이 되게 하셨나니 곧 하나님이 유다 지파를 택하사 머리를 삼으시고 유다의 가문에서 내 부친의 집을 택하시고 내 부친의 아들들 중에서 나를 기뻐하사 온 이스라엘의 왕을 삼으셨느니라

대상28:5 여호와께서 내게 여러 아들을 주시고 그 모든 아들 중에서 내 아들 솔로몬을 택하사 여호와의 나라 왕위에 앉혀 이스라엘을 다스리게 하려 하실새

대상28:6 내게 이르시기를 네 아들 솔로몬 그가 내 성전을 건축하고 내 여러 뜰을 만들리니 이는 내가 그를 택하여 내 아들로 삼고 나는 그의 아버지가 될 것임이라

대상28:7 그가 만일 나의 계명과 법도를 힘써 준행하기를 오늘과 같이 하면 내가 그의 나라를 영원히 견고하게 하리라 하셨느니라

대상28:8 이제 너희는 온 이스라엘 곧 여호와의 회중이 보는 데에서와 우리 하나님이 들으시는 데에서 너희 하나님 여호와의 모든 계명을 구하여 지키기로 하라 그리하면 너희가 이 아름다운 땅을 누리고 너희 후손에게 끼쳐 영원한 기업이 되게 하리라

대상28:9 내 아들 솔로몬아 너는 네 아버지의 하나님을 알고 온전한 마음과 기쁜 뜻으로 섬길지어다 여호와께서는 모든 마음을 감찰하사 모든 의도를 아시나니 네가 만일 그를 찾으면 만날 것이요 만일 네가 그를 버리면 그가 너를 영원히 버리시리라

대상28:10 그런즉 이제 너는 삼갈지어다 여호와께서 너를 택하여 성전의 건물을 건축하게 하셨으니 힘써 행할지니라 하니라

대상28:11 다윗이 성전의 복도와 그의 집들과 그의 곳간과 다락과 골방과 속죄소의 설계도를 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 주고

대상28:12 또 그가 영감으로 받은 모든 것 곧 여호와의 성전의 뜰과 사면의 모든 방과 하나님의 성전 곳간과 성물 곳간의 설계도를 주고

대상28:13 또 제사장과 레위 사람의 반열과 여호와의 성전에서 섬기는 모든 일과 여호와의 성전을 섬기는 데에 쓰는 모든 그릇의 양식을 설명하고

대상28:14 또 모든 섬기는 데에 쓰는 금 기구를 만들 금의 무게와 모든 섬기는 데에 쓰는 은 기구를 만들 은의 무게를 정하고

대상28:15 또 금 등잔대들과 그 등잔 곧 각 등잔대와 그 등잔을 만들 금의 무게와 은 등잔대와 그 등잔을 만들 은의 무게를 각기 그 기구에 알맞게 하고

대상28:16 또 진설병의 각 상을 만들 금의 무게를 정하고 은상을 만들 은도 그렇게 하고

대상28:17 갈고리와 대접과 종지를 만들 순 금과 금 잔 곧 각 잔을 만들 금의 무게와 또 은 잔 곧 각 잔을 만들 은의 무게를 정하고

대상28:18 또 향단에 쓸 순금과 또 수레 곧 금 그룹들의 설계도대로 만들 금의 무게를 정해주니 이 그룹들은 날개를 펴서 여호와의 언약궤를 덮는 것이더라

대상28:19 다윗이 이르되 여호와의 손이 내게 임하여 이 모든 일의 설계를 그려 나에게 알려 주셨느니라

대상28:20 또 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 이르되 너는 강하고 담대하게 이 일을 행하라 두려워하지 말며 놀라지 말라 네가 여호와의 성전 공사의 모든 일을 마치기까지 여호와 하나님 나의 하나님이 너와 함께 계시사 네게서 떠나지 아니하시고 너를 버리지 아니하시리라

대상28:21 제사장과 레위 사람의 반이 있으니 하나님의 성전의 모든 종사를 도울 것이요 또 모든 공사에 유능한 기술자가 기쁜 마음으로 너와 함께 할 것이요 또 모든 지휘관과 백성이 온전히 네 명령 아래에 있으리라

베드로후서 2 장.

벧후2:1 그러나 백성 가운데 또한 거짓 선지자들이 일어났었나니 이와 같이 너희 중에도 거짓 선생들이 있으리라 그들은 멸망하게 할 이단을 가만히 끌어들여 자기들을 사신 주를 부인하고 임박한 멸망을 스스로 취하는 자들이라

벧후2:2 여럿이 그들의 호색하는 것을 따르리니 이로 말미암아 진리의 도가 비방을 받을 것이요

벧후2:3 그들이 탐심으로써 지어낸 말을 가지고 너희로 이득을 삼으니 그들의 심판은 옛적부터 지체하지 아니하며 그들의 멸망은 잠들지 아니하느니라

벧후2:4 하나님이 범죄한 천사들을 용서하지 아니하시고 지옥에 던져 어두운 구덩이에 두어 심판 때까지 지키게 하셨으며

벧후2:5 옛 세상을 용서하지 아니하시고 오직 의를 전파하는 노아와 그 일곱 식구를 보존하시고 경건하지 아니한 자들의 세상에 홍수를 내리셨으며

벧후2:6 소돔과 고모라 성을 멸망하기로 정하여 재가 되게 하사 후세에 경건하지 아니할 자들에게 본을 삼으셨으며

벧후2:7 무법한 자들의 음란한 행실로 말미암아 고통 당하는 의로운 롯을 건지셨으니

벧후2:8 (이는 의인이 그들 중에 거하여 날마다 저 불법한 행실을 보고 들음으로 그 의로운 심령이 상함이라)

벧후2:9 주께서 경건한 자는 시험에서 건지실 줄 아시고 불의한 자는 형벌 아래에 두어 심판 날까지 지키시며

벧후2:10 특별히 육체를 따라 더러운 정욕 가운데서 행하며 주관하는 이를 멸시하는 자들에게는 형벌할 줄 아시느니라 이들은 당돌하고 자긍하며 떨지 않고 영광 있는 자들을 비방하거니와

벧후2:11 더 큰 힘과 능력을 가진 천사들도 주 앞에서 그들을 거슬러 비방하는 고발을 하지 아니하느니라

벧후2:12 그러나 이 사람들은 본래 잡혀 죽기 위하여 난 이성 없는 짐승 같아서 그 알지 못하는 것을 비방하고 그들의 멸망 가운데서 멸망을 당하며

벧후2:13 불의의 값으로 불의를 당하며 낮에 즐기고 노는 것을 기쁘게 여기는 자들이니 점과 흠이라 너희와 함께 연회할 때에 그들의 속임수로 즐기고 놀며

벧후2:14 음심이 가득한 눈을 가지고 범죄하기를 그치지 아니하고 굳세지 못한 영혼들을 유혹하며 탐욕에 연단된 마음을 가진 자들이니 저주의 자식이라

벧후2:15 그들이 바른 길을 떠나 미혹되어 브올의 아들 발람의 길을 따르는도다 그는 불의의 삯을 사랑하다가

벧후2:16 자기의 불법으로 말미암아 책망을 받되 말하지 못하는 나귀가 사람의 소리로 말하여 이 선지자의 미친 행동을 저지하였느니라

벧후2:17 이 사람들은 물 없는 샘이요 광풍에 밀려 가는 안개니 그들을 위하여 캄캄한 어둠이 예비되어 있나니

벧후2:18 그들이 허탄한 자랑의 말을 토하며 그릇되게 행하는 사람들에게서 겨우 피한 자들을 음란으로써 육체의 정욕 중에서 유혹하는도다

벧후2:19 그들에게 자유를 준다 하여도 자신들은 멸망의 종들이니 누구든지 진 자는 이긴 자의 종이 됨이라

벧후2:20 만일 그들이 우리 주 되신 구주 예수 그리스도를 앎으로 세상의 더러움을 피한 후에 다시 그 중에 얽매이고 지면 그 나중 형편이 처음보다 더 심하리니

벧후2:21 의의 도를 안 후에 받은 거룩한 명령을 저버리는 것보다 알지 못하는 것이 도리어 그들에게 나으니라

벧후2:22 참된 속담에 이르기를 개가 그 토하였던 것에 돌아가고 돼지가 씻었다가 더러운 구덩이에 도로 누웠다 하는 말이 그들에게 응하였도다

미가 5 장.

미5:1 딸 군대여 너는 때를 모을지어다 그들이 우리를 에워쌌으니 막대기로 이스라엘 재판자의 뺨을 치리로다

미5:2 베들레헴 에브라다야 너는 유다 족속 중에 작을지라도 이스라엘을 다스릴 자가 네게서 내게로 나올 것이라 그의 근본은 상고에, 영원에 있느니라

미5:3 그러므로 여인이 해산하기까지 그들을 붙여 두시겠고 그 후에는 그의 형제 가운데에 남은 자가 이스라엘 자손에게로 돌아오리니

미5:4 그가 여호와의 능력과 그의 하나님 여호와의 이름의 위엄을 의지하고 서서 목축하니 그들이 거주할 것이라 이제 그가 창대하여 땅 끝까지 미치리라

미5:5 이 사람은 평강이 될 것이라 앗수르 사람이 우리 땅에 들어와서 우리 궁들을 밟을 때에는 우리가 일곱 목자와 여덟 군왕을 일으켜 그를 치리니

미5:6 그들이 칼로 앗수르 땅을 황폐하게 하며 니므롯 땅 어귀를 황폐하게 하리라 앗수르 사람이 우리 땅에 들어와서 우리 지경을 밟을 때에는 그가 우리를 그에게서 건져내리라

미5:7 야곱의 남은 자는 많은 백성 가운데 있으리니 그들은 여호와께로부터 내리는 이슬 같고 풀 위에 내리는 단비 같아서 사람을 기다리지 아니하며 인생을 기다리지 아니할 것이며

미5:8 야곱의 남은 자는 여러 나라 가운데와 많은 백성 가운데에 있으리니 그들은 수풀의 짐승들 중의 사자 같고 양 떼 중의 젊은 사자 같아서 만일 그가 지나간 즉 밟고 찢으리니 능히 구원할 자가 없을 것이라

미5:9 네 손이 네 대적들 위에 들려서 네 모든 원수를 진멸하기를 바라노라 하시더라

미5:10 여호와께서 이르시되 그 날에 이르러는 내가 네 군마를 네 가운데에서 멸절하며 네 병거를 부수며

미5:11 네 땅의 성읍들을 멸하며 네 모든 견고한 성을 무너뜨릴 것이며

미5:12 내가 또 복술을 네 손에서 끊으리니 네게 다시는 점쟁이가 없게 될 것이며

미5:13 내가 네가 새긴 우상과 주상을 너희 가운데에서 멸절하리니 네가 네 손으로 만든 것을 다시는 섬기지 아니하리라

미5:14 내가 또 네 아세라 목상을 너희 가운데에서 내버리고 네 성읍들을 멸할 것이며

미5:15 내가 또 진노와 분노로 순종하지 아니한 나라에 갚으리라 하셨느니라

누가복음 14 장.

눅14:1 안식일에 예수께서 한 바리새인 지도자의 집에 떡 잡수시러 들어가시니 그들이 엿보고 있더라

눅14:2 주의 앞에 수종병 든 한 사람이 있는지라

눅14:3 예수께서 대답하여 율법교사들과 바리새인들에게 이르시되 안식일에 병 고쳐 주는 것이 합당하냐 아니하냐

눅14:4 그들이 잠잠하거늘 예수께서 그 사람을 데려다가 고쳐 보내시고

눅14:5 또 그들에게 이르시되 너희 중에 누가 그 아들이나 소가 우물에 빠졌으면 안식일에라도 곧 끌어내지 않겠느냐 하시니

눅14:6 그들이 이에 대하여 대답하지 못하니라

눅14:7 청함을 받은 사람들이 높은 자리 택함을 보시고 그들에게 비유로 말씀하여 이르시되

눅14:8 네가 누구에게나 혼인 잔치에 청함을 받았을 때에 높운 자리에 앉지 말라 그렇지 않으면 너보다 더 높은 사람이 청함을 받은 경우에

눅14:9 너와 그를 청한 자가 와서 너더러 이 사람에게 자리를 내주라 하리니 그 때에 네가 부끄러워 끝자리로 가게 되리라

눅14:10 청함을 받았을 때에 차라리 가서 끝자리에 앉으라 그러면 너를 청한 자가 와서 너더러 벗이여 올라 앉으라 하리니 그 때에야 함께 앉은 모든 사람 앞에서 영광이 있으리라

눅14:11 무릇 자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지고 자기를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라

눅14:12 또 자기를 청한 자에게 이르시되 네가 점심이나 저녁이나 베풀거든 벗이나 형제나 친척이나 부한 이웃을 청하지 말라 두렵건대 그 사람들이 너를 도로 청하여 네게 갚음이 될까 하노라

눅14:13 잔치를 베풀거든 차라리 가난한 자들과 몸 불편한 자들과 저는 자들과 맹인들을 청하라

눅14:14 그리하면 그들이 갚을 것이 없으므로 네게 복이 되리니 이는 의인들의 부활 시에 네가 갚음을 받겠음이라 하시더라

눅14:15 함께 먹는 사람 중의 하나가 이 말을 듣고 이르되 무릇 하나님의 나라에서 떡을 먹는 자는 복되도다 하니

눅14:16 이르시되 어떤 사람이 큰 잔치를 베풀고 많은 사람을 청하였더니

눅14:17 잔치할 시각에 그 청하였던 자들에게 종을 보내어 이르되 오소서 모든 것이 준비되었나이다 하매

눅14:18 다 일치하게 사양하여 한 사람은 이르되 나는 밭을 샀으매 아무래도 나가 보아야 하겠으니 청컨대 나를 양해하도록 하라 하고

눅14:19 또 한 사람은 이르되 나는 소 다섯 겨리를 샀으매 시험하러 가니 청컨대 나를 양해하도록 하라 하고

눅14:20 또 한 사람은 이르되 나는 장가 들었으니 그러므로 가지 못하겠노라 하는지라

눅14:21 종이 돌아와 주인에게 그대로 고하니 이에 집 주인이 노하여 그 종에게 이르되 빨리 시내의 거리와 골목으로 나가서 가난한 자들과 몸 불편한 자들과 맹인들과 저는 자들을 데려오라 하니라

눅14:22 종이 이르되 주인이여 명하신 대로 하였으되 아직도 자리가 있나이다

눅14:23 주인이 종에게 이르되 길과 산울타리 가로 나가서 사람을 강권하여 데려다가 내 집을 채우라

눅14:24 내가 너희에게 말하노니 전에 청하였던 그 사람들은 하나도 내 잔치를 맛보지 못하리라 하였다 하시니라

눅14:25 수많은 무리가 함께 갈새 예수께서 돌이키사 이르시되

눅14:26 무릇 내게 오는 자가 자기 부모와 처자와 형제와 자매와 더욱이 자기 목숨까지 미워하지 아니하면 능히 내 제자가 되지 못하고

눅14:27 누구든지 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따르지 않는 자도 능히 내 제자가 되지 못하리라

눅14:28 너희 중의 누가 망대를 세우고자 할진대 자기의 가진 것이 준공하기까지에 족할는지 먼저 앉아 그 비용을 계산하지 아니하겠느냐

눅14:29 그렇게 아니하여 그 기초만 쌓고 능히 이루지 못하면 보는 자가 다 비웃어

눅14:30 이르되 이 사람이 공사를 시작하고 능히 이루지 못하였다 하리라

눅14:31 또 어떤 임금이 다른 임금과 싸우러 갈 때에 먼저 앉아 일만 명으로써 저 이만 명을 거느리고 오는 자를 대적할 수 있을까 헤아리지 아니하겠느냐

눅14:32 만일 못할 터이면 그가 아직 멀리 있을 때에 사신을 보내어 화친을 청할지니라

눅14:33 이와 같이 너희 중의 누구든지 자기의 모든 소유를 버리지 아니하면 능히 내 제자가 되지 못하리라

눅14:34 소금이 좋은 것이나 소금도 만일 그 맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 짜게 하리요

눅14:35 땅에도, 거름에도 쓸 데 없어 내버리느니라 들을 귀가 있는 자는 들을지어다 하시니라

1 Chronicles 28.

28:1 Then King David said to the whole assembly: "My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the LORD God.

28:2 With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God--gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise, stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble--all of these in large quantities.

28:3 Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple:

28:4 three thousand talents of gold (gold of Ophir) and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings,

28:5 for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate himself today to the LORD?"

28:6 Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly.

28:7 They gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze and a hundred thousand talents of iron.

28:8 Any who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple of the LORD in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.

28:9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

28:10 David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, "Praise be to you, O LORD, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.

28:11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.

28:12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.

28:13 Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

28:14 "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.

28:15 We are aliens and strangers in your sight, as were all our forefathers. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.

28:16 O LORD our God, as for all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name, it comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you.

28:17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.

28:18 O LORD, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep this desire in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.

28:19 And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, requirements and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided."

28:20 Then David said to the whole assembly, "Praise the LORD your God." So they all praised the LORD, the God of their fathers; they bowed low and fell prostrate before the LORD and the king.

28:21 The next day they made sacrifices to the LORD and presented burnt offerings to him: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

28:22 They ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the LORD that day. Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the LORD to be ruler and Zadok to be priest.

28:23 So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him.

28:24 All the officers and mighty men, as well as all of King David's sons, pledged their submission to King Solomon.

28:25 The LORD highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendor such as no king over Israel ever had before.

28:26 David son of Jesse was king over all Israel.

28:27 He ruled over Israel forty years--seven in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem.

28:28 He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.

28:29 As for the events of King David's reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer,

28:30 together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.

2 Peter 2.

2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.

2:2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.

2:3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;

2:5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

2:6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;

2:7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men

2:8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--

2:9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.

2:10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;

2:11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.

2:12 But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.

2:13 They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

2:14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed--an accursed brood!

2:15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.

2:16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey--a beast without speech--who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

2:17 These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.

2:18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.

2:19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity--for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.

2:20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

2:21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.

2:22 Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud."

Micah 5.

5:1 Marshal your troops, O city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel's ruler on the cheek with a rod.

5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."

5:3 Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor gives birth and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites.

5:4 He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.

5:5 And he will be their peace. When the Assyrian invades our land and marches through our fortresses, we will raise against him seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men.

5:6 They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrian when he invades our land and marches into our borders.

5:7 The remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples like dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass, which do not wait for man or linger for mankind.

5:8 The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which mauls and mangles as it goes, and no one can rescue.

5:9 Your hand will be lifted up in triumph over your enemies, and all your foes will be destroyed.

5:10 "In that day," declares the LORD, "I will destroy your horses from among you and demolish your chariots.

5:11 I will destroy the cities of your land and tear down all your strongholds.

5:12 I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast spells.

5:13 I will destroy your carved images and your sacred stones from among you; you will no longer bow down to the work of your hands.

5:14 I will uproot from among you your Asherah poles and demolish your cities.

5:15 I will take vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations that have not obeyed me."

Luke 14.

14:1 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.

14:2 There in front of him was a man suffering from dropsy.

14:3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?"

14:4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him away.

14:5 Then he asked them, "If one of you has a son or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull him out?"

14:6 And they had nothing to say.

14:7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable:

14:8 "When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited.

14:9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.

14:10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests.

14:11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

14:12 Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.

14:13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,

14:14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

14:15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, "Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God."

14:16 Jesus replied: "A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests.

14:17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, 'Come, for everything is now ready.'

14:18 "But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, 'I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.'

14:19 "Another said, 'I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I'm on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.'

14:20 "Still another said, 'I just got married, so I can't come.'

14:21 "The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.'

14:22 "'Sir,' the servant said, 'what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.'

14:23 "Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.

14:24 I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.'"

14:25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:

14:26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple.

14:27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

14:28 "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?

14:29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him,

14:30 saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'

14:31 "Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?

14:32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.

14:33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.

14:34 "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?

14:35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
