대상15:1 다윗이 다윗 성에서 자기를 위하여 궁전을 세우고 또 하나님의 궤를 둘 곳을 마련하고 그것을 위하여 장막을 치고

대상15:2 다윗이 이르되 레위 사람 외에는 하나님의 궤를 멜 수 없나니 이는 여호와께서 그들을 택하사 여호와의 궤를 메고 영원히 그를 섬기게 하셨음이라 하고

대상15:3 다윗이 이스라엘 온 무리를 예루살렘으로 모으고 여호와의 궤를 그 마련한 곳으로 메어 올리고자 하여

대상15:4 다윗이 아론 자손과 레위 사람을 모으니

대상15:5 그핫 자손 중에 지도자 우리엘과 그의 형제가 백이십 명이요

대상15:6 므라리 자손 중에 지도자 아사야와 그의 형제가 이백 이십 명이요

대상15:7 게르솜 자손 중에 지도자 요엘과 그의 형제가 백삼십 명이요

대상15:8 엘리사반 자손 중에 지도자 스마야와 그의 형제가 이백 명이요

대상15:9 헤브론 자손 중에 지도자 엘리엘과 그의 형제가 팔십 명이요

대상15:10 웃시엘 자손 중에 지도자 암미나답과 그의 형제가 백십이 명이라

대상15:11 다윗이 제사장 사독과 아비아달을 부르고 또 레위 사람 우리엘과 아사야와 요엘과 스마야와 엘리엘과 암미나답을 불러

대상15:12 그들에게 이르되 너희는 레위 사람의 지도자이니 너희와 너희 형제는 몸을 성결하게 하고 내가 마련한 곳으로 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 궤를 메어 올리라

대상15:13 전에는 너희가 메지 아니하였으므로 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리를 찢으셨으니 이는 우리가 규례대로 그에게 구하지 아니하였음이라 하니

대상15:14 이에 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 이스라엘 하나님 여호와의 궤를 메고 올라가려 하여 몸을 성결하게 하고

대상15:15 모세가 여호와의 말씀을 따라 명령한 대로 레위 자손이 채에 하나님의 궤를 꿰어 어깨에 메니라

대상15:16 다윗이 레위 사람의 어른들에게 명령하여 그의 형제들을 노래하는 자들로 세우고 비파와 수금과 제금 등의 악기를 울려서 즐거운 소리를 크게 내라 하매

대상15:17 레위 사람이 요엘의 아들 헤만과 그의 형제 중 베레야의 아들 아삽과 그의 형제 므라리 자손 중에 구사야의 아들 에단을 세우고

대상15:18 그 다음으로 그들의 형제 스가랴와 벤과 야아시엘과 스미라못과 여히엘과 운니와 엘리압과 브나야와 마아세야와 맛디디야와 엘리블레후와 믹네야와 문지기 오벧에돔과 여이엘을 세우니

대상15:19 노래하는 자 헤만과 아삽과 에단은 놋제금을 크게 치는 자요

대상15:20 스가랴와 아시엘과 스미라못과 여히엘과 운니와 엘리압과 마아세야와 브나야는 비파를 타서 알라못에 맞추는 자요

대상15:21 맛디디야와 엘리블레후와 믹네야와 오벧에돔과 여이엘과 아사시야는 수금을 타서 여덟째 음에 맞추어 인도하는 자요

대상15:22 레위 사람의 지도자 그나냐는 노래에 익숙하므로 노래를 인도하는 자요

대상15:23 베레갸와 엘가나는 궤 앞에서 문을 지키는 자요

대상15:24 제사장 스바냐와 요사밧과 느다넬과 아미새와 스가랴와 브나야와 엘리에셀은 하나님의 궤 앞에서 나팔을 부는 자요 오벧에돔과 여히야는 궤 앞에서 문을 지키는 자이더라

대상15:25 이에 다윗과 이스라엘 장로들과 천부장들이 가서 여호와의 언약궤를 즐거이 메고 오벧에돔의 집에서 올라왔는데

대상15:26 하나님이 여호와의 언약궤를 멘 레위 사람을 도우셨으므로 무리가 수송아지 일곱 마리와 숫양 일곱 마리로 제사를 드렸더라

대상15:27 다윗과 및 궤를 멘 레위 사람과 노래하는 자와 그의 우두머리 그나냐와 모든 노래하는 자도 다 세마포 겉옷을 입었으며 다윗은 또 베 에봇을 입었고

대상15:28 이스라엘 무리는 크게 부르며 뿔 나팔과 나팔을 불며 제금을 치며 비파와 수금을 힘있게 타며 여호와의 언약궤를 메어 올렸더라

대상15:29 여호와의 언약궤가 다윗 성으로 들어올 때에 사울의 딸 미갈이 창으로 내다보다가 다윗 왕이 춤추며 뛰노는 것을 보고 그 마음에 업신여겼더라

야고보서 2 장.

약2:1 내 형제들아 영광의 주 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도에 대한 믿음을 너희가 가졌으니 사람을 차별하여 대하지 말라

약2:2 만일 너희 회당에 금 가락지를 끼고 아름다운 옷을 입은 사람이 들어오고 또 남루한 옷을 입은 가난한 사람이 들어올 때에

약2:3 너희가 아름다운 옷을 입은 자를 눈여겨 보고 말하되 여기 좋은 자리에 앉으소서 하고 또 가난한 자에게 말하되 너는 거기 서 있든지 내 발등상 아래에 앉으라 하면

약2:4 너희끼리 서로 차별하며 악한 생각으로 판단하는 자가 되는 것이 아니냐

약2:5 내 사랑하는 형제들아 들을지어다 하나님이 세상에서 가난한 자를 택하사 믿음에 부요하게 하시고 또 자기를 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 나라를 상속으로 받게 하지 아니하셨느냐

약2:6 너희는 도리어 가난한 자를 업신여겼도다 부자는 너희를 억압하며 법정으로 끌고 가지 아니하느냐

약2:7 그들은 너희에게 대하여 일컫는 바 그 아름다운 이름을 비방하지 아니하느냐

약2:8 너희가 만일 성경에 기록된 대로 네 이웃 사랑하기를 네 몸과 같이 하라 하신 최고한 법을 지키면 잘하는 것이거니와

약2:9 만일 너희가 사람을 차별하여 대하면 죄를 짓는 것이니 율법이 너희를 범법자로 정죄하리라

약2:10 누구든지 온 율법을 지키다가 그 하나를 범하면 모두 범한 자가 되나니

약2:11 간음하지 말라 하신 이가 또한 살인하지 말라 하셨은즉 네가 비록 간음하지 아니하여도 살인하면 율법을 범한 자가 되느니라

약2:12 너희는 자유의 율법대로 심판 받을 자처럼 말도 하고 행하기도 하라

약2:13 긍휼을 행하지 아니하는 자에게는 긍휼 없는 심판이 있으리라 긍휼은 심판을 이기고 자랑하느니라

약2:14 내 형제들아 만일 사람이 믿음이 있노라 하고 행함이 없으면 무슨 유익이 있으리요 그 믿음이 능히 자기를 구원하겠느냐

약2:15 만일 형제나 자매가 헐벗고 일용할 양식이 없는데

약2:16 너희 중에 누구든지 그에게 이르되 평안히 가라, 덥게 하라, 배부르게 하라 하며 그 몸에 쓸 것을 주지 아니하면 무슨 유익이 있으리요

약2:17 이와 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라

약2:18 어떤 사람은 말하기를 너는 믿음이 있고 나는 행함이 있으니 행함이 없는 네 믿음을 내게 보이라 나는 행함으로 내 믿음을 네게 보이리라 하리라

약2:19 네가 하나님은 한 분이신 줄을 믿느냐 잘하는도다 귀신들도 믿고 떠느니라

약2:20 아아 허탄한 사람아 행함이 없는 믿음이 헛것인 줄을 알고자 하느냐

약2:21 우리 조상 아브라함이 그 아들 이삭을 제단에 바칠 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐

약2:22 네가 보거니와 믿음이 그의 행함과 함께 일하고 행함으로 믿음이 온전하게 되었느니라

약2:23 이에 성경에 이른 바 이브라함이 하나님을 믿으니 이것을 의로 여기셨다는 말씀이 이루어졌고 그는 하나님의 벗이라 칭함을 받았나니

약2:24 이로 보건대 사람이 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받고 믿음으로만은 아니니라

약2:25 또 이와 같이 기생 라합이 사자들을 접대하여 다른 길로 나가게 할 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐

약2:26 영혼 없는 몸이 죽은 것 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 죽은 것이니라

아모스 9 장.

암9:1 내가 보니 주께서 제단 곁에 서서 이르시되 기둥 머리를 쳐서 문지방이 움직이게 하며 그것으로 부서져서 무리의 머리에 떨어지게 하라 내가 그 남은 자를 칼로 죽이리니 그 중에서 한 사람도 도망하지 못하며 그 중에서 한 사람도 피하지 못하리라

암9:2 그들이 파고 스올로 들어갈지라도 내 손이 거기에서 붙잡아 낼 것이요 하늘로 올라갈지라도 내가 거기에서 붙잡아 내릴 것이며

암9:3 갈멜 산 꼭대기에 숨을지라도 내가 거기에서 찾아낼 것이요 내 눈을 피하여 바다 밑에 숨을 지라도 내가 거기에서 뱀을 명령하여 물게 할 것이요

암9:4 그 원수 앞에 사로잡혀 갈지라도 내가 거기에서 칼을 명령하여 죽이게 할 것이라 내가 그들에게 주목하여 화를 내리고 복을 내리지 아니하리라 하시니라

암9:5 주 만군의 여호와는 땅을 만져 녹게 하사 거기 거주하는 자가 애통하게 하시며 그 온 땅이 강의 넘침 같이 솟아오르며 애굽 강 같이 낮아지게 하시는 이요

암9:6 그의 궁전을 하늘에 세우시며 그 궁창의 기초를 땅에 두시며 바닷물을 불러 지면에 쏟으시는 이니 그 이름은 여호와시니라

암9:7 여호와의 말씀이니라 이스라엘 자손들아 너희는 내게 구스 족속 같지 아니하냐 내가 이스 라엘을 애굽 땅에서, 블레셋 사람을 갑돌에서, 아람 사람을 기르에서 올라오게 하지 아니하였느냐

암9:8 보라 주 여호와의 눈이 범죄한 나라를 주목하노니 내가 그것을 지면에서 멸하리라 그러나 야곱의 집은 온전히 멸하지는 아니 하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라

암9:9 보라 내가 명령하여 이스라엘 족속을 만국 중에서 체질하기를 체로 체질함 같이 하려니와 그 한 알갱이도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라

암9:10 내 백성 중에서 말하기를 화가 우리에게 미치지 아니하며 이르지 아니하리라 하는 모든 죄인은 칼에 죽으리라

암9:11 그 날에 내가 다윗의 무너진 장막을 일으키고 그것들의 틈을 막으며 그 허물어진 것을 일으켜서 옛적과 같이 세우고

암9:12 그들이 에돔의 남은 자와 내 이름으로 일컫는 만국을 기업으로 얻게 하리라 이 일을 행하시는 여호와의 말씀이니라

암9:13 여호와의 말씀이니라 보라 날이 이를지라 그 때에 파종하는 자가 곡식 추수하는 자의 뒤를 이으며 포도를 밟는 자가 씨 뿌리는 자의 뒤를 이으며 산들은 단 포도주를 흘리며 작은 산들은 녹으리라

암9:14 내가 내 백성 이스라엘이 사로잡힌 것을 돌이키리니 그들이 황폐한 성읍을 건축하여 거주하며 포도원들을 가꾸고 그 포도주를 마시며 과원들을 만들고 그 열매를 먹으리라

암9:15 내가 그들을 그들의 땅에 심으리니 그들이 내가 준 땅에서 다시 뽑히지 아니하리라 네 하나님 여호와의 말씀이니라

누가복음 4 장.

눅4:1 예수께서 성령의 충만함을 입어 요단 강에서 돌아오사 광야에서 사십 일 동안 성령에게 이끌리시며

눅4:2 마귀에게 시험을 받으시더라 이 모든 날에 아무 것도 잡수시지 아니하시니 날 수가 다하매 주리신지라

눅4:3 마귀가 이르되 네가 만일 하나님의 아들이어든 이 돌들에게 명하여 떡이 되게 하라

눅4:4 예수께서 대답하시되 기록된 바 사람이 떡으로만 살 것이 아니라 하였느니라

눅4:5 마귀가 또 예수를 이끌고 올라가서 순식간에 천하 만국을 보이며

눅4:6 이르되 이 모든 권위와 그 영광을 내가 네게 주리라 이것은 내게 넘겨 준 것이므로 내가 원하는 자에게 주노라

눅4:7 그러므로 네가 만일 내게 절하면 다 네 것이 되리라

눅4:8 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 기록된 바 주 너의 하나님께 경배하고 다만 그를 섬기라 하였느니라

눅4:9 또 이끌고 예루살렘으로 가서 성전 꼭대기에 세우고 이르되 네가 만일 하나님의 아들이어든 여기서 뛰어내리라

눅4:10 기록되었으되 하나님이 너를 위하여 그 사자들을 명하사 너를 지키게 하시리라 하였고

눅4:11 또한 그들이 손으로 너를 받들어 네 발이 돌에 부딪치지 않게 하시리라 하였느니라

눅4:12 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 주 너의 하나님을 시험하지 말라 하였느니라눅4:13 마귀가 모든 시험을 다 한 후에 얼마 동안 떠나니라

눅4:14 예수께서 성령의 능력으로 갈릴리에 돌아가시니 그 소문이 사방에 퍼졌고

눅4:15 친히 그 여러 회당에서 가르치시매 뭇 사람에게 칭송을 받으시더라

눅4:16 예수께서 그 자라나신 곳 나사렛에 이르사 안식일에 늘 하시던대로 회당에 들어가사 성경을 읽으려고 서시매

눅4:17 선지자 이사야의 글을 드리거늘 책을 펴서 이렇게 기록된 데를 찾으시니 곧

눅4:18 주의 성령이 내게 임하셨으니 이는 가난한 자에게 복음을 전하게 하시려고 내게 기름을 부으시고 나를 보내사 포로된 자에게 자유를, 눈먼 자에게 다시 보게 함을 전파하며 눌린 자를 자유롭게 하고

눅4:19 주의 은혜의 해를 전파하게 하려 하심이라 하였더라

눅4:20 책을 덮어 그 맡은 자에게 주시고 앉으시니 회당에 있는 자들이 다 주목하여 보더라

눅4:21 이에 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하시되 이 글이 오늘 너희 귀에 응하였느니라 하시니

눅4:22 그들이 다 그를 증언하고 그 입으로 나오는 바 은혜로운 말을 놀랍게 여겨 이르되 이 사람이 요셉의 아들이 아니냐

눅4:23 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 너희가 반드시 의사야 너 자신을 고치라 하는 속담을 인용하여 내게 말하기를 우리가 들은 바 가버나움에서 행한 일을 네 고향 여기서도 행하라 하리라

눅4:24 또 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 선지자가 고향에서는 환영을 받는 자가 없느니라

눅4:25 내가 참으로 너희에게 이르노니 엘리야 시대에 하늘이 삼 년 육개월간 닫히어 온 땅에 큰 흉년이 들었을 때에 이스라엘에 많은 과부가 있었으되

눅4:26 엘리야가 그 중 한 사람에게도 보내심을 받지 않고 오직 시돈 땅에 있는 사렙다의 한 과부에게 뿐이었으며

눅4:27 또 선지자 엘리사 때에 이스라엘에 많은 나병환자가 있었으되 그 중의 한 사람도 깨끗함을 얻지 못하고 오직 수리아 사람 나아만뿐이었느니라

눅4:28 회당에 있는 자들이 이것을 듣고 다 크게 화가 나서

눅4:29 일어나 동네 밖으로 쫓아내어 그 동네가 건설된 산 낭떠러지까지 끌고 가서 밀쳐 떨어뜨리고자 하되

눅4:30 예수께서 그들 가운데로 지나서 가시니라

눅4:31 갈릴리의 가버나움 동네에 내려오사 안식일에 가르치시매

눅4:32 그들이 그 가르치심에 놀라니 이는 그 말씀이 권위가 있음이러라

눅4:33 회당에 더러운 귀신 들린 사람이 있어 크게 소리 질러 이르되

눅4:34 아 나사렛 예수여 우리가 당신과 무슨 상관이 있나이까 우리를 멸하러 왔나이까 나는 당신이 누구인 줄 아노니 하나님의 거룩한 자니이다

눅4:35 예수께서 꾸짖어 이르시되 잠잠하고 그 사람에게서 나오라 하시니 귀신이 그 사람을 무리 중에 넘어뜨리고 나오되 그 사람은 상하지 아니한지라

눅4:36 다 놀라 서로 말하여 이르되 이 어떠한 말씀인고 권위와 능력으로 더러운 귀신을 명하매 나가는도다 하더라

눅4:37 이에 예수의 소문이 그 근처 사방에 퍼지니라

눅4:38 예수께서 일어나 회당에서 나가사 시몬의 집에 들어가시니 시몬의 장모가 중한 열병을 앓고 있는지라 사람들이 그를 위하여 예수께 구하니

눅4:39 예수께서 가까이 서서 열병을 꾸짖으신대 병이 떠나고 여자가 곧 일어나 그들에게 수종드니라

눅4:40 해 질 무렵에 사람들이 온갖 병자들을 데리고 나아오매 예수께서 일일이 그 위에 손을 얹으사 고치시니

눅4:41 여러 사람에게서 귀신들이 나가며 소리 질러 이르되 당신은 하나님의 아들이니이다 예수께서 꾸짖으사 그들이 말함을 허락하지 아니하시니 이는 자기를 그리스도인 줄 앎이러라

눅4:42 날이 밝으매 예수께서 나오사 한적한 곳에 가시니 무리가 찾다가 만나서 자기들에게서 떠나시지 못하게 만류하려 하매

눅4:43 예수께서 이르시되 내가 다른 동네들에서도 하나님의 나라 복음을 전하여야 하리니 나는 이 일을 위해 보내심을 받았노라 하시고

눅4:44 갈릴리 여러 회당에서 전도하시더라

1 Chronicles 15.

15:1 After David had constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

15:2 Then David said, "No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the LORD chose them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister before him forever."

15:3 David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.

15:4 He called together the descendants of Aaron and the Levites:

15:5 From the descendants of Kohath, Uriel the leader and 120 relatives;

15:6 from the descendants of Merari, Asaiah the leader and 220 relatives;

15:7 from the descendants of Gershon, Joel the leader and 130 relatives;

15:8 from the descendants of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the leader and 200 relatives;

15:9 from the descendants of Hebron, Eliel the leader and 80 relatives;

15:10 from the descendants of Uzziel, Amminadab the leader and 112 relatives.

15:11 Then David summoned Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel and Amminadab the Levites.

15:12 He said to them, "You are the heads of the Levitical families; you and your fellow Levites are to consecrate yourselves and bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.

15:13 It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the LORD our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the prescribed way."

15:14 So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.

15:15 And the Levites carried the ark of God with the poles on their shoulders, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.

15:16 David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.

15:17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; from his brothers, Asaph son of Berekiah; and from their brothers the Merarites, Ethan son of Kushaiah;

15:18 and with them their brothers next in rank: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.

15:19 The musicians Heman, Asaph and Ethan were to sound the bronze cymbals;

15:20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah were to play the lyres according to alamoth,

15:21 and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel and Azaziah were to play the harps, directing according to sheminith.

15:22 Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was his responsibility because he was skillful at it.

15:23 Berekiah and Elkanah were to be doorkeepers for the ark.

15:24 Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer the priests were to blow trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also to be doorkeepers for the ark.

15:25 So David and the elders of Israel and the commanders of units of a thousand went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-Edom, with rejoicing.

15:26 Because God had helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed.

15:27 Now David was clothed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and as were the singers, and Kenaniah, who was in charge of the singing of the choirs. David also wore a linen ephod.

15:28 So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouts, with the sounding of rams' horns and trumpets, and of cymbals, and the playing of lyres and harps.

15:29 As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him in her heart.

James 2.

2:1 My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism.

2:2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.

2:3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet,"

2:4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

2:5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

2:6 But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?

2:7 Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.

2:9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.

2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

2:11 For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

2:12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,

2:13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!

2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

2:15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

2:16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

2:18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder.

2:20 You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

2:21 Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

2:22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.

2:24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.

2:25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Amos 9.

9:1 I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said: "Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds shake. Bring them down on the heads of all the people; those who are left I will kill with the sword. Not one will get away, none will escape.

9:2 Though they dig down to the depths of the grave, from there my hand will take them. Though they climb up to the heavens, from there I will bring them down.

9:3 Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, there I will hunt them down and seize them. Though they hide from me at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent to bite them.

9:4 Though they are driven into exile by their enemies, there I will command the sword to slay them. I will fix my eyes upon them for evil and not for good."

9:5 The Lord, the LORD Almighty, he who touches the earth and it melts, and all who live in it mourn--the whole land rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt--

9:6 he who builds his lofty palace in the heavens and sets its foundation on the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land--the LORD is his name.

9:7 "Are not you Israelites the same to me as the Cushites?" declares the LORD. "Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt, the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?

9:8 "Surely the eyes of the Sovereign LORD are on the sinful kingdom. I will destroy it from the face of the earth--yet I will not totally destroy the house of Jacob," declares the LORD.

9:9 "For I will give the command, and I will shake the house of Israel among all the nations as grain is shaken in a sieve, and not a pebbhe will reach the ground.

9:10 All the sinners among my people will die by the sword, all those who say, 'Disaster will not overtake or meet us.'

9:11 "In that day I will restore David's fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be,

9:12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name," declares the LORD, who will do these things.

9:13 "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills.

9:14 I will bring back my exiled people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.

Luke 4.

4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert,

4:2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

4:3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."

4:4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone.'"

4:5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world.

4:6 And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.

4:7 So if you worship me, it will all be yours."

4:8 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'"

4:9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here.

4:10 For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;

4:11 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

4:12 Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

4:13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

4:14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

4:15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.

4:16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read.

4:17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,

4:19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

4:20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him,

4:21 and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

4:22 All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.

4:23 Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me: 'Physician, heal yourself! Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.'"

4:24 "I tell you the truth," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown.

4:25 I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.

4:26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.

4:27 And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed--only Naaman the Syrian."

4:28 All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.

4:29 They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff.

4:30 But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

4:31 Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath began to teach the people.

4:32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his message had authority.

4:33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice,

4:34 "Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"

4:35 "Be quiet!" Jesus said sternly. "Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

4:36 All the people were amazed and said to each other, "What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!"

4:37 And the news about him spread throughout the surrounding area.

4:38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.

4:39 So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.

4:40 When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.

4:41 Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.

4:42 At daybreak Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.

4:43 But he said, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent."

4:44 And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
