출애굽기 25 장.

출25:1 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되

출25:2 이스라엘 자손에게 명령하여 내게 예물을 가져오라 하고 기쁜 마음으로 내는 자가 내게 바치는 모든 것을 너희는 받을지니라

출25:3 너희가 그들에게서 받을 예물은 이러하니 금과 은과 놋과

출25:4 청색 자색 홍색 실과 가는 베실과 염소 털과

출25:5 붉은 물들인 숫양의 가죽과 해달의 가죽과 조각목과

출25:6 등유와 관유에 드는 향료와 분향할 향을 만들 향품과

출25:7 호마노며 에봇과 흉패에 물릴 보석이니라

출25:8 내가 그들 중에 거할 성소를 그들이 나를 위하여 짓되

출25:9 무릇 내가 네게 보이는 모양대로 장막을 짓고 기구들도 그 모양을 따라 지을지니라

출25:10 그들은 조각목으로 궤를 짜되 길이는 두 규빗 반, 너비는 한 규빗 반, 높이는 한 규빗 반이 되게 하고

출25:11 너는 순금으로 그것을 싸되 그 안팎을 싸고 위쪽 가장자리로 돌아가며 금테를 두르고

출25:12 금 고리 넷을 부어 만들어 그 네 발에 달되 이쪽에 두 고리 저쪽에 두 고리를 달며

출25:13 조각목으로 채를 만들어 금으로 싸고

출25:14 그 채를 궤 양쪽 고리에 꿰어서 궤를 메게 하며

출25:15 채를 궤의 고리에 꿴 대로 두고 빼내지 말지며

출25:16 내가 네게 줄 증거판을 궤 속에 둘지며

출25:17 순금으로 속죄소를 만들되 길이는 두 규빗 반, 너비는 한 규빗 반이 되게 하고

출25:18 금으로 그룹 둘을 속죄소 두 끝에 쳐서 만들되

출25:19 한 그룹은 이 끝에, 또 한 그룹은 저 끝에 곧 속죄소 두 끝에 속죄소와 한 덩이로 연결할지며

출25:20 그룹들은 그 날개를 높이 펴서 그 날개로 속죄소를 덮으며 그 얼굴을 서로 대하여 속죄소를 향하게 하고

출25:21 속죄소를 궤 위에 얹고 내가 네게 줄 증거판을 궤 속에 넣으라

출25:22 거기서 내가 너와 만나고 속되소 위 곧 증거궤 위에 있는 두 그룹 사이에서 내가 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 네게 명령할 모든 일을 네게 이르리라

출25:23 너는 조각목으로 상을 만들되 길이는 두 규빗, 너비는 한 규빗, 높이는 한 규빗 반이 되게 하고

출25:24 순금으로 싸고 주위에 금테를 두르고

출25:25 그 주위에 손바닥 넓이만한 턱을 만들고 그 턱 주위에 금으로 테를 만들고

출25:26 그것을 위하여 금 고리 넷을 만들어 그 네 발 위 네 모퉁이에 달되

출25:27 턱 결에 붙이라 이는 상을 멜 채를 꿸 곳이며

출25:28 또 조각목으로 그 채를 만들고 금으로 싸라 상을 이것으로 멜 것이니라

출25:29 너는 대접과 숟가락과 병과 붓는 잔을 만들되 순금으로 만들며

출25:30 상 위에 진설병을 두어 항상 내 앞에 있게 할지니라

출25:31 너는 순금으로 등잔대를 쳐 만들되 그 밑판과 줄기와 잔과 꽃받침과 꽃을 한 덩이로 연결하고

출25:32 가지 여섯을 등잔대 곁에서 나오게 하되 다른 세 가지는 이쪽으로 나오고 다른 세 가지는 저쪽으로 나오게 하며

출25:33 이쪽 가지에 살구꽃 형상의 잔 셋과 꽃받침과 꽃이 있게 하고 저쪽 가지에도 살구꽃 형상의 잔 셋과 꽃받침과 꽃이 있게 하여 등잔대에서 나온 가지 여섯을 같게 할지며

출25:34 등잔대 줄기에는 살구꽃 형상의 잔 넷과 꽃받침과 꽃이 있게 하고

출25:35 등잔대에서 나온 가지 여섯을 위하여 꽃받침이 있게 하되 두 가지 아래에 한 꽃받침이 있어 줄기와 연결하며 또 두 가지 아래에 한 꽃받침이 있어 줄기와 연결하며 또 두 가지 아래에 한 꽃받침이 있어 줄기와 연결하게 하고

출25:36 그 꽃받침과 가지를 줄기와 연결하여 전부를 순금으로 쳐 만들고

출25:37 등잔 일곱을 만들어 그 위에 두어 앞을 비추게 하며

출25:38 그 불집게와 불 똥 그릇도 순금으로 만들지니

출25:39 등잔대와 이 모든 기구를 순금 한 달란트로 만들되

출25:40 너는 삼가 이 산에서 네게 보인 양식대로 할지니라

요한복음 4 장.

요4:1 예수께서 제자를 삼고 세례를 베푸시는 것이 요한보다 많다 하는 말을 바리새인들이 들은 줄을 주께서 아신지라

요4:2 (예수께서 친히 세례를 베푸신 것이 아니요 제자들이 베푼 것이라)

요4:3 유대를 떠나사 다시 갈릴리로 가실새

요4:4 사마리아를 통과하여야 하겠는지라

요4:5 사마리아에 있는 수가라 하는 동네에 이르시니 야곱이 그 아들 요셉에게 준 땅이 가깝고

요4:6 거기 또 야곱의 우물이 있더라 예수께서 길 가시다가 피곤하여 우물 곁에 그대로 앉으시니 때가 여섯 시쯤 되었더라

요4:7 사마리아 여자 한 사람이 물을 길으러 왔으매 예수께서 물을 좀 달라하시니

요4:8 이는 제자들이 먹을 것을 사러 그 동네에 들어갔음이러라

요4:9 사마리아 여자가 이르되 당신은 유대인으로서 어찌하여 사마리아 여자인 나에게 물을 달라 하나이까 하니 이는 유대인이 사마리아인과 상종하지 아니함이러라

요4:10 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 네가 만일 하나님의 선물과 또 네게 물 좀 달라 하는 이가 누구인 줄 알았더라면 네가 그에게 구하였을 것이요 그가 생수를 네게 주었으리라

요4:11 여자가 이르되 주여 물 길을 그릇도 없고 이 우물은 깊은데 어디서 당신이 그 생수를 얻겠사옵나이까

요4:12 우리 조상 야곱이 이 우물을 우리에게 주셨고 또 여기서 자기와 자기 아들들과 짐승이 다 마셨는데 당신이 야곱보다 더 크니이까

요4:13 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 이 물을 마시는 자마다 다시 목마르려니와

요4:14 내가 주는 물을 마시는 자는 영원히 목마르지 아니하리니 내가 주는 물은 그 속에서 영생하도록 솟아나는 샘물이 되리라

요4:15 여자가 이르되 주여 그런 물을 내게 주사 목마르지도 않고 또 여기 물 길으러 오지도 않게 하옵소서

요4:16 이르시되 가서 네 남편을 불러 오라

요4:17 여자가 대답하여 이르되 나는 남편이 없나이다 예수께서 이르시되 네가 남편이 없다 하는 말이 옳도다

요4:18 너에게 남편 다섯이 있었고 지금 있는 자도 네 남편이 아니니 네 말이 참되도다

요4:19 여자가 이르되 주여 내가 보니 선지자로소이다

요4:20 우리 조상들은 이 산에서 예배하였는데 당신들의 말은 예배할 곳이 예루살렘에 있다 하더이다

요4:21 예수께서 이르시되 여자여 내 말을 믿으라 이 산에서도 말고 예루살렘에서도 말고 너희가 아버지께 예배할 때가 이르리라

요4:22 너희는 알지 못하는 것을 예배하고 우리는 아는 것을 예배하노니 이는 구원이 유대인에게서 남이라

요4:23 아버지께 참되게 예배하는 자들은 영과 진리로 예배할 때가 오나니 곧 이 때라 아버지께서는 자기에게 이렇게 예배하는 자들을 찾으시느니라

요4:24 하나님은 영이시니 예배하는 자가 영과 진리로 예배할지니라

요4:25 여자가 이르되 메시야 곧 그리스도라 하는 이가 오실 줄을 내가 아노니 그가 오시면 모든 것을 우리에게 알려 주시리이다

요4:26 예수께서 이르시되 네게 말하는 내가 그라 하시니라

요4:27 이 때에 제자들이 돌아와서 예수께서 여자와 말씀하시는 것을 이상히 여겼으나 무엇을 구하시나이까 어찌하여 그와 말씀하시나이까 묻는 자가 없더라

요4:28 여자가 물동이를 버려 두고 동네로 들어가서 사람들에게 이르되

요4:29 나의 행한 모든 일을 내게 말한 사람을 와서 보라 이는 그리스도가 아니냐 하니

요4:30 그들이 동네에서 나와 예수께로 오더라

요4:31 그 사이에 제자들이 청하여 이르되 랍비여 잡수소서

요4:32 이르시되 내게는 너희가 알지 못하는 먹을 양식이 있느니라

요4:33 제자들이 서로 말하되 누가 잡수실 것을 갖다 드렸는가 하니

요4:34 예수께서 이르시되 나의 양식은 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하며 그의 일을 온전히 이루는 이것이니라

요4:35 너희는 넉 달이 지나야 추수할 때가 이르겠다 하지 아니하느냐 그러나 나는 너희에게 이르노니 너희 눈을 들어 밭을 보라 희어져 추수하게 되었도다

요4:36 거두는 자가 이미 삯도 받고 영생에 이르는 열매를 모으나니 이는 뿌리는 자와 거두는 자가 함께 즐거워하게 하려 함이라

요4:37 그런즉 한 사람이 심고 다른 사람이 거둔다 하는 말이 옳도다

요4:38 내가 너희로 노력하지 아니한 것을 거두러 보내었노니 다른 사람들은 노력하였고 너희는 그들이 노력한 것에 참여하였느니라

요4:39 여자의 말이 그가 내가 행한 모든 것을 내게 말하였다 증언하므로 그 동네 중에 많은 사마리아인이 예수를 믿는지라

요4:40 사마리아인들이 예수께 와서 자기들과 함께 유하시기를 청하니 거기서 이틀을 유하시매

요4:41 예수의 말씀으로 말미암아 믿는 자가 더욱 많아

요4:42 그 여자에게 말하되 이제 우리가 믿는 것은 네 말로 인함이 아니니 이는 우리가 친히 듣고 그가 참으로 세상의 구주신 줄 앎이라 하였더라

요4:43 이틀이 지나매 예수께서 거기를 떠나 갈릴리로 가시며

요4:44 친히 증언하시기를 선지자가 고향에서는 높임을 받지 못한다 하시고

요4:45 갈릴리에 이르시매 갈릴리인들이 그를 영접하니 이는 자기들도 명절에 갔다가 예수께서 명절 중 예루살렘에서 하신 모든 일을 보았음이더라

요4:46 예수께서 다시 갈릴리 가나에 이르시니 전에 물로 포도주를 만드신 곳이라 왕의 신하가 있어 그의 아들이 가버나움에서 병들었더니

요4:47 그가 예수께서 유대로부터 갈릴리로 오셨다는 것을 듣고 가서 청하되 내려오셔서 내 아들의 병을 고쳐 주소서 하니 그가 거의 죽게 되었음이라

요4:48 예수께서 이르시되 너희는 표적과 기사를 보지 못하면 도무지 믿지 아니하리라

요4:49 신하가 이르되 주여 내 아이가 죽기 전에 내려오소서

요4:50 예수께서 이르시되 가라 네 아들이 살아 있다 하시니 그 사람이 예수께서 하신 말씀을 믿고 가더니

요4:51 내려가는 길에서 그 종들이 오다가 만나서 아이가 살아 있다 하거늘

요4:52 그 낫기 시작한 때를 물은즉 어제 일곱 시에 열기가 떨어졌나이다 하는지라

요4:53 그의 아버지가 예수께서 네 아들이 살아 있다 말씀하신 그 때인 줄 알고 자기와 그 온 집안이 다 믿으니라

요4:54 이것은 예수께서 유대에서 갈릴리로 오신 후에 행하신 두번째 표적이니라

잠언 1 장.

잠1:1 다윗의 아들 이스라엘 왕 솔로몬의 잠언이라

잠1:2 이는 지혜와 훈계를 알게 하며 명철의 말씀을 깨닫게 하며

잠1:3 지혜롭게, 공의롭게, 정의롭게, 정직하게 행할 일에 대하여 훈계를 받게 하며

잠1:4 어리석은 자를 슬기롭게 하며 젊은 자에게 지식과 근신함을 주기 위한 것이니

잠1:5 지혜 있는 자는 듣고 학식이 더할 것이요 명철한 자는 지략을 얻을 것이라

잠1:6 잠언과 비유와 지혜 있는 자의 말과 그 오묘한 말을 깨달으리라

잠1:7 여호와를 경외하는 것이 지식의 근본이거늘 미련한 자는 지혜와 훈계를 멸시하느니라

잠1:8 내 아들아 네 아비의 훈계를 들으며 네 어미의 법을 떠나지 말라

잠1:9 이는 네 머리의 아름다운 관이요 네 목의 금 사슬이니라

잠1:10 내 아들아 악한 자가 너를 꾈지라도 따르지 말라

잠1:11 그들이 네게 말하기를 우리와 함께 가자 우리가 가만히 엎드렸다가 사람의 피를 흘리자 죄 없는 자를 까닭 없이 숨어 기다리다가

잠1:12 스올 같이 그들을 산채로 삼키며 무덤에 내려가는 자들 같이 통으로 삼키자

잠1:13 우리가 온갖 보화를 얻으며 빼앗은 것으로 우리 집을 채우리니

잠1:14 너는 우리와 함께 제비를 뽑고 우리가 함께 전대 하나만 두자 할지라도

잠1:15 내 아들아 그들과 함께 길에 다니지 말라 네 발을 금하여 그 길을 밟지 말라

잠1:16 대저 그 발은 악으로 달려가며 피를 흘리는 데 빠름이니라

잠1:17 새가 보는 데서 그물을 치면 헛일이겠거늘

잠1:18 그들이 가만히 엎드림은 자기의 피를 흘릴 뿐이요 숨어 기다림은 자기의 생명을 해할 뿐이니

잠1:19 이익을 탐하는 모든 자의 길은 다 이러하여 자기의 생명을 잃게 하느니라

잠1:20 지혜가 길거리에서 부르며 광장에서 소리를 높이며

잠1:21 시끄러운 길목에서 소리를 지르며 성문 어귀와 성중에서 그 소리를 발하여 이르되

잠1:22 너희 어리석은 자들은 어리석음을 좋아하며 거만한 자들은 거만을 기뻐하며 미련한 자들은 지식을 미워하니 어느 때까지 하겠느냐

잠1:23 나의 책망을 듣고 돌이키라 보라 내가 나의 영을 너희에게 부어 주며 내 말을 너희에게 보이리라

잠1:24 내가 불렀으나 너희가 듣기 싫어하였고 내가 손을 폈으나 돌아보는 자가 없었고

잠1:25 도리어 나의 모든 교훈을 멸시하며 나의 책망을 받지 아니하였은즉

잠1:26 너희가 재앙을 만날 때에 내가 웃을 것이며 너희에게 두려움이 임할 때에 내가 비웃으리라

잠1:27 너희의 두려움이 광풍 같이 임하겠고 너희의 재앙이 폭풍 같이 이르겠고 너희에게 근심과 슬픔이 임하리니

잠1:28 그 때에 너희가 나를 부르리라 그래도 내가 대답하지 아니하겠고 부지런히 나를 찾으리라 그래도 나를 만나지 못하리니

잠1:29 대저 너희가 지식을 미워하며 여호와 경외하기를 즐거워하지 아니하며

잠1:30 나의 교훈을 받지 아니하고 나의 모든 책망을 업신여겼음이니라

잠1:31 그러므로 자기 행위의 열매를 먹으며 자기 꾀에 배부르리라

잠1:32 어리석은 자의 퇴보는 자기를 죽이며 미련한 자의 안일은 자기를 멸망시키려니와

잠1:33 오직 내 말을 듣는 자는 평안히 살며 재앙의 두려움이 없이 안전하리라

고린도후서 13 장.

고후13:1 내가 이제 세 번째 너희에게 가리니 두세 증인의 입으로 말마다 확정하리라

고후13:2 내가 이미 말하였거니와 지금 떠나 있으나 두 번째 대면하였을 때와 같이 전에 죄 지은 자들과 그 남은 모든 사람에게 미리 말하노니 내가 다시 가면 용서하지 아니하리라

고후13:3 이는 그리스도께서 내 안에서 말씀하시는 증거를 너희가 구함이니 그가 너희에 대하여 약하지 않고 도리어 너희 안에서 강하시니라

고후13:4 그리스도께서 약하심으로 십자가에 못 박히셨으나 오직 하나님의 능력으로 살아 계시니 우리도 그 안에서 약하나 너희에 대하여 하나님의 능력으로 그와 함께 살리라

고후13:5 너희가 믿음 안에 있는가 너희 자신을 시험하고 너희 자신을 확증하라 예수 그리스도께서 너희 안에 계신 줄을 너희가 스스로 알지 못하느냐 그렇지 않으면 너희는 버림받은 자니라

고후13:6 우리가 버림받은 자 되지 아니한 것을 너희가 알기를 내가 바라고

고후13:7 우리가 하나님께서 너희로 악을 조금도 행하지 않게 하시기를 구하노니 이는 우리가 옳은 자임을 나타내고자 함이 아니라 오직 우리는 버림받은 자 같을지라도 너희는 선을 행하게 하고자 함이라

고후13:8 우리는 진리를 거슬러 아무 것도 할 수 없고 오직 진리를 위할 뿐이니

고후13:9 우리가 약할 때에 너희가 강한 것을 기뻐하고 또 이것을 위하여 구하니 곧 너희가 온전하게 되는 것이라

고후13:10 그러므로 내가 떠나 있을 때에 이렇게 쓰는 것은 대면할 때에 주께서 너희를 넘어뜨리려 하지 않고 세우려 하여 내게 주신 그 권한을 따라 엄하지 않게 하려 함이라

고후13:11 마지막으로 말하노니 형제들아 기뻐하라 온전하게 되며 위로를 받으며 마음을 같이 하며 평안할지어다 또 사랑과 평강의 하나님이 너희와 함께 계시리라 거룩하게 입맞춤으로 서로 문안하라

고후13:12 모든 성도가 너희에게 문안하느니라

고후13:13 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 하나님의 사랑과 성령의 교통하심이 너희 무리와 함께 있을지어다

Exodus 25.

25:1 The LORD said to Moses,

25:2 "Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man whose heart prompts him to give.

25:3 These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver and bronze;

25:4 blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair;

25:5 ram skins dyed red and hides of sea cows; acacia wood;

25:6 olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;

25:7 and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece.

25:8 "Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.

25:9 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.

25:10 "Have them make a chest of acacia wood--two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.

25:11 Overlay it with pure gold, both inside and out, and make a gold molding around it.

25:12 Cast four gold rings for it and fasten them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other.

25:13 Then make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

25:14 Insert the poles into the rings on the sides of the chest to carry it.

25:15 The poles are to remain in the rings of this ark; they are not to be removed.

25:16 Then put in the ark the Testimony, which I will give you.

25:17 "Make an atonement cover of pure gold--two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide.

25:18 And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover.

25:19 Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends.

25:20 The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover.

25:21 Place the cover on top of the ark and put in the ark the Testimony, which I will give you.

25:22 There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites.

25:23 "Make a table of acacia wood--two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high.

25:24 Overlay it with pure gold and make a gold molding around it.

25:25 Also make around it a rim a handbreadth wide and put a gold molding on the rim.

25:26 Make four gold rings for the table and fasten them to the four corners, where the four legs are.

25:27 The rings are to be close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table.

25:28 Make the poles of acacia wood, overlay them with gold and carry the table with them.

25:29 And make its plates and dishes of pure gold, as well as its pitchers and bowls for the pouring out of offerings.

25:30 Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times.

25:31 "Make a lampstand of pure gold and hammer it out, base and shaft; its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms shall be of one piece with it.

25:32 Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand--three on one side and three on the other.

25:33 Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms are to be on one branch, three on the next branch, and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand.

25:34 And on the lampstand there are to be four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms.

25:35 One bud shall be under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair--six branches in all.

25:36 The buds and branches shall all be of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.

25:37 "Then make its seven lamps and set them up on it so that they light the space in front of it.

25:38 Its wick trimmers and trays are to be of pure gold.

25:39 A talent of pure gold is to be used for the lampstand and all these accessories.

25:40 See that you make them according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.

John 4.

4:1 The Pharisees heard that Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John,

4:2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples.

4:3 When the Lord learned of this, he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.

4:4 Now he had to go through Samaria.

4:5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.

4:6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

4:7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?"

4:8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

4:9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

4:10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."

4:11 "Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?

4:12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?"

4:13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,

4:14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

4:15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water."

4:16 He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back."

4:17 "I have no husband," she replied. Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband.

4:18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true."

4:19 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet.

4:20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."

4:21 Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

4:22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.

4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

4:25 The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us."

4:26 Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he."

4:27 Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, "What do you want?" or "Why are you talking with her?"

4:28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people,

4:29 "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?"

4:30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

4:31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, "Rabbi, eat something."

4:32 But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about."

4:33 Then his disciples said to each other, "Could someone have brought him food?"

4:34 "My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.

4:35 Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

4:36 Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.

4:37 Thus the saying 'One sows and another reaps' is true.

4:38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor."

4:39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I ever did."

4:40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days.

4:41 And because of his words many more became believers.

4:42 They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world."

4:43 After the two days he left for Galilee.

4:44 (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.)

4:45 When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, for they also had been there.

4:46 Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.

4:47 When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.

4:48 "Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders," Jesus told him, "you will never believe."

4:49 The royal official said, "Sir, come down before my child dies."

4:50 Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed.

4:51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.

4:52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, "The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour."

4:53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." So he and all his household believed.

4:54 This was the second miraculous sign that Jesus performed, having come from Judea to Galilee.

Proverbs 1.

1:1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

1:2 for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight;

1:3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair;

1:4 for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young--

1:5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance--

1:6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

1:8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

1:9 They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

1:10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them.

1:11 If they say, "Come along with us; let's lie in wait for someone's blood, let's waylay some harmless soul;

1:12 let's swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;

1:13 we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder;

1:14 throw in your lot with us, and we will share a common purse"--

1:15 my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;

1:16 for their feet rush into sin, they are swift to shed blood.

1:17 How useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds!

1:18 These men lie in wait for their own blood; they waylay only themselves!

1:19 Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the lives of those who get it.

1:20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares;

1:21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:

1:22 "How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge?

1:23 If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you.

1:24 But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand,

1:25 since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke,

1:26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you--

1:27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

1:28 "Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me.

1:29 Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD,

1:30 since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,

1:31 they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.

1:32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;

1:33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm."

2 Corinthians 13.

13:1 This will be my third visit to you. "Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses."

13:2 I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others,

13:3 since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.

13:4 For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God's power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God's power we will live with him to serve you.

13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test?

13:6 And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test.

13:7 Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. Not that people will see that we have stood the test but that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed.

13:8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

13:9 We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is for your perfection.

13:10 This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority--the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.

13:11 Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
