열왕기상 9 장.

왕상9:1 솔로몬이 여호와의 성전과 왕궁 건축하기를 마치며 자기가 이루기를 원하던 모든 것을 마친 때에

왕상9:2 여호와께서 성전에 기브온에서 나타나심 같이 다시 솔로몬에게 나타나사

왕상9:3 여호와께서 그에게 이르시되 네 기도와 네가 내 앞에서 간구한 바를 내가 들었은즉 나는 네가 건축한 이 성전을 거룩하게 구별하여 내 이름을 영원히 그 곳에 두며 내 눈길과 내 마음이 항상 거기에 있으리니

왕상9:4 네가 만일 네 아버지 다윗이 행함 같이 마음을 온전히 하고 바르게 하여 내 앞에서 행하여 내가 네게 명령한 대로 온갖 일에 순종하여 내 법도와 율례를 지키면

왕상9:5 내가 네 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하시기를 이스라엘의 왕위에 오를 사람이 네게서 끊어지지 아니하리라 한 대로 네 이스라엘의 왕위를 영원히 견고하게 하려니와

왕상9:6 만일 너희나 너희의 자손이 아주 돌아서서 나를 따르지 아니하며 내가 너희 앞에 둔 바의 계명과 법도를 지키지 아니하고 가서 다른 신을 섬겨 그것을 경배하면

왕상9:7 내가 이스라엘을 내가 그들에게 준 땅에서 끊어 버릴 것이요 내 이름을 위하여 내가 거룩하게 구별한 이 성전이라도 내 앞에서 던져버리리니 이스라엘은 모든 민족 가운데에서 속담거리와 이야기거리가 될 것이며

왕상9:8 이 성전이 높을지라도 지나가는 자마다 놀라며 비웃어 이르되 여호와께서 무슨 까닭으로 이 땅과 이 성전에 이같이 행하셨는고 하면

왕상9:9 대답하기를 그들이 그들의 조상들을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내신 그들의 하나님 여호와를 버리고 다른 신을 따라가서 그를 경배하여 섬기므로 여호와께서 이 모든 재앙을 그들에게 내리 심이라 하리라 하셨더라

왕상9:10 솔로몬이 두 집 곧 여호와의 성전과 왕궁을 이십 년 만에 건축하기를 마치고

왕상9:11 갈릴리 땅의 성읍 스무 곳을 히람에게 주었으니 이는 두로 왕 히람이 솔로몬에게 그 온갖 소원대로 백향목과 잣나무와 금을 제공하였음이라

왕상9:12 히람이 두로에서 와서 솔로몬이 자기에게 준 성읍들을 보고 눈에 들지 아니하여

왕상9:13 이르기를 내 형제여 내게 준 이 성읍들이 이러한가 하고 이름하여 가불 땅이라 하였더니 그 이름이 오늘까지 있느니라

왕상9:14 히람이 금 일백이십 달란트를 왕에게 보내었더라

왕상9:15 솔로몬 왕이 역군을 일으킨 까닭은 이러하니 여호와의 성전과 자기 왕궁과 밀로와 예루살렘 성과 하솔과 므깃도와 게셀을 건축하려 하였음이라

왕상9:16 전에 애굽 왕 바로가 올라와서 게셀을 탈취하여 불사르고 그 성읍에 사는 가나안 사람을 죽이고 그 성읍을 자기 딸 솔로몬의 아내에게 예물로 주었더니

왕상9:17 솔로몬이 게셀과 아래 벧호론을 건축하고

왕상9:18 또 바알랏과 그 땅의 들에 있는 다드몰과

왕상9:19 자기에게 있는 모든 국고성과 병거성들과 마병의 성들을 건축하고 솔로몬이 또 예루살렘과 레바논과 그가 다스리는 온 땅에 건축하고자 하던 것을 다 건축하였는데

왕상9:20 이스라엘 자손이 아닌 아모리 사람과 헷 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람 중 남아 있는 모든 사람

왕상9:21 곧 이스라엘 자손이 다 멸하지 못하므로 그 땅에 남아 있는 그들의 자손들을 솔로몬이 노예로 역군을 삼아 오늘까지 이르렀으되

왕상9:22 다만 이스라엘 자손은 솔로몬이 노예를 삼지 아니하였으니 그들은 군사와 그 신하와 고관과 대장이며 병거와 마병의 지휘관이 됨이었더라

왕상9:23 솔로몬에게 일을 감독하는 우두머리 오백오십 명이 있어 일하는 백성을 다스렸더라

왕상9:24 바로의 딸이 다윗 성에서부터 올라와 솔로몬이 그를 위하여 건축한 궁에 이를 때에 솔로몬이 밀로를 건축하였더라

왕상9:25 솔로몬이 여호와를 위하여 쌓은 제단 위에 해마다 세 번씩 번제와 감사의 제물을 드리고 또 여호와 앞에 있는 제단에 분향 하니라 이에 성전 짓는 일을 마치니라

왕상9:26 솔로몬 왕이 에돔 땅 홍해 물가의 엘롯 근처 에시온게벨에서 배들을 지은지라

왕상9:27 히람이 자기 종 곧 바다에 익숙한 사공들을 솔로몬의 종과 함께 그 배로 보내매

왕상9:28 그들이 오빌에 이르러 거기서 금 사백이십 달란트를 얻고 솔로몬 왕에게로 가져왔더라

에베소서 6 장.

엡6:1 자녀들아 주 안에서 너희 부모에게 순종하라 이것이 옳으니라

엡6:2 네 아버지와 어머니를 공경하라 이것은 약속이 있는 첫 계명이니

엡6:3 이로써 네가 잘되고 땅에서 장수하리라

엡6:4 또 아비들아 너희 자녀를 노엽게 하지 말고 오직 주의 교훈과 훈계로 양육하라

엡6:5 종들아 두려워하고 떨며 성실한 마음으로 육체의 상전에게 순종하기를 그리스도께 하듯 하라

엡6:6 눈가림만 하여 사람을 기쁘게 하는 자처럼 하지 말고 그리스도의 종들처럼 마음으로 하나님의 뜻을 행하고

엡6:7 기쁜 마음으로 섬기기를 주께 하듯 하고 사람들에게 하듯 하지 말라

엡6:8 이는 각 사람이 무슨 선을 행하든지 종이나 자유인이나 주께로부터 그대로 받을 줄을 앎이라

엡6:9 상전들아 너희도 그들에게 이와 같이 하고 위협을 그치라 이는 그들과 너희의 상전이 하늘에 계시고 그에게는 사람을 외모로 취하는 일이 없는 줄 너희가 앎이라

엡6:10 끝으로 너희가 주 안에서와 그 힘의 능력으로 강건하여지고

엡6:11 마귀의 간계를 능히 대적하기 위하여 하나님의 전신 갑주를 입으라

엡6:12 우리의 씨름은 혈과 육을 상대하는 것이 아니요 통치자들과 권세들과 이 어둠의 세상 주관자들과 하늘에 있는 악의 영들을 상대함이라

엡6:13 그러므로 하나님의 전신 갑주를 취하라 이는 악한 날에 너희가 능히 대적하고 모든 일을 행한 후에 서기 위함이라

엡6:14 그런즉 서서 진리로 너희 허리띠를 띠고 의의 호심경을 붙이고

엡6:15 평안의 복음이 준비한 것으로 신을 신고

엡6:16 모든 것 위에 믿음의 방패를 가지고 이로써 능히 악한 자의 모든 불화살을 소멸하고

엡6:17 구원의 투구와 셩령의 검 곧 하나님의 말씀을 가지라

엡6:18 모든 기도와 간구를 하되 항상 성령 안에서 기도하고 이를 위하여 깨어 구하기를 항상 힘쓰며 여러 성도를 위하여 구하라

엡6:19 또 나를 위하여 구할 것은 내게 말씀을 주사 나로 입을 열어 복음의 비밀을 담대히 알리게 하옵소서 할 것이니

엡6:20 이 일을 위하여 내가 쇠사슬에 매인 사신이 된 것은 나로 이 일에 당연히 할 말을 담대히 하게 하려 하심이라

엡6:21 나의 사정 곧 내가 무엇을 하는지 너희에게도 알리려 하노니 사랑을 받은 형제요 주 안에서 진실한 일꾼인 두기고가 모든 일을 너희에게 알리리라

엡6:22 우리 사정을 알리고 또 너희 마음을 위로하기 위하여 내가 특별히 그를 너희에게 보내었노라

엡6:23 아버지 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도께로부터 평안과 믿음을 겸한 사랑이 형제들에게 있을지어다

엡6:24 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 변함없이 사랑하는 모든 자에게 은혜가 있을지어다

에스겔 39 장.

겔39:1 그러므로 인자야 너는 곡에게 예언하여 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되 로스와 메섹과 두발 왕 곡아 내가 너를 대적하여

겔39:2 너를 돌이켜서 이끌고 북쪽 끝에서부터 나와서 이스라엘 산 위에 이르러

겔39:3 네 활을 쳐서 네 왼손에서 떨어뜨리고 네 화살을 네 오른손에서 떨어뜨리리니

겔39:4 너와 네 모든 무리와 너와 함께 있는 백성이 다 이스라엘 산 위에 엎드러지리라 내가 너를 각종 사나운 새와 들짐승에게 넘겨 먹게 하리니

겔39:5 네가 빈 들에 엎드러지리라 이는 내가 말하였음이니라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔39:6 내가 또 불을 마곡과 및 섬에 평안히 거주하는 자에게 내리리니 내가 여호와인 줄을 그들이 알리라

겔39:7 내가 내 거룩한 이름을 내 백성 이스라엘 가운데에 알게 하여 다시는 내 거룩한 이름을 더럽히지 아니하게 하리니 내가 여호와 곧 이스라엘의 거룩한 자인 줄을 민족들이 알리라 하라

겔39:8 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 볼지어다 그 날이 와서 이루어지리니 내가 말한 그 날이 이 날이라

겔39:9 이스라엘 성읍들에 거주하는 자가 나가서 그들의 무기를 불태워 사르되 큰 방패와 작은 방패와 활과 화살과 몽둥이와 창을 가지고 일곱 해 동안 불태우리라

겔39:10 이같이 그 무기로 불을 피울 것이므로 그들이 들에서 나무를 주워 오지 아니하며 숲에서 벌목하지 아니하겠고 전에 자기에게서 약탈하던 자의 것을 약탈하며 전에 자기에게서 늑탈하던 자의 것을 늑탈하리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔39:11 그 날에 내가 곡을 위하여 이스라엘 땅 곧 바다 동쪽 사람이 통행하는 골짜기를 매장지로 주리니 통행하던 길이 막힐 것이라 사람이 거기에서 곡과 그 모든 무리를 매장하고 그 이름을 하몬곡의 골짜기라 일컬으리라

겔39:12 이스라엘 족속이 일곱 달 동안에 그들을 매장하여 그 땅을 정결하게 할 것이라

겔39:13 그 땅 모든 백성이 그들을 매장하고 그로 말미암아 이름을 얻으리니 이는 나의 영광이 나타나는 날이니라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔39:14 그들이 사람을 택하여 그 땅에 늘 순행하며 매장할 사람과 더불어 지면에 남아 있는 시체를 매장하여 그 땅을 정결하게 할 것이라 일곱 달 후에 그들이 살펴보되

겔39:15 지나가는 사람들이 그 땅으로 지나가다가 사람의 뼈를 보면 그 곁에 푯말을 세워 매장하는 사람에게 가서 하몬곡 골짜기에 매장하게 할 것이요

겔39:16 성읍의 이름도 하모나라 하리라 그들이 이같이 그 땅을 정결하게 하리라

겔39:17 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 너 인자야 너는 각종 새와 들의 각종 짐승에게 이르기를 너희는 모여 오라 내가 너희를 위한 잔치 곧 이스라엘 산 위에 예비한 큰 잔치로 너희는 사방에서 모여 살을 먹으며 피를 마실지어다

겔39:18 너희가 용사의 살을 먹으며 세상 왕들의 피를 마시기를 바산의 살진 짐승 곧 숫양이나 어린 양이나 염소나 수송아지를 먹듯 할지라

겔39:19 내가 너희를 위하여 예비한 잔치의 기름을 너희가 배불리 먹으며 그 피를 취하도록 마시되

겔39:20 내 상에서 말과 기병과 용사와 모든 군사를 배부르게 먹일지니라 하라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔39:21 내가 내 영광을 여러 민족 가운데에 나타내어 모든 민족이 내가 행한 심판과 내가 그 위에 나타낸 권능을 보게 하리니

겔39:22 그 날 이후에 이스라엘 족속은 내가 여호와 자기들의 하나님인 줄을 알겠고

겔39:23 여러 민족은 이스라엘 족속이 그 죄악으로 말미암아 사로잡혀 갔던 줄을 알지라 그들이 내게 범죄하였으므로 내 얼굴을 그들에게 가리고 그들을 그 원수의 손에 넘겨 다 칼에 엎드러지게 하였으되

겔39:24 내가 그들의 더러움과 그들의 범죄한 대로 행하여 그들에게 내 얼굴을 가리었었느니라

겔39:25 그러므로 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 내가 이제 내 거룩한 이름을 위하여 열심을 내어 야곱의 사로잡힌 자를 돌아오게 하며 이스라엘 온 족속에게 사랑을 베풀지라

겔39:26 그들이 그 땅에 평안히 거주하고 두렵게 할 자가 없게 될 때에 부끄러움을 품고 내게 범한 죄를 뉘우치리니

겔39:27 내가 그들을 만민 중에서 돌아오게 하고 적국 중에서 모아 내어 많은 민족이 보는 데에서 그들로 말미암아 나의 거룩함을 나타낼 때라

겔39:28 전에는 내가 그들이 사로잡혀 여러 나라에 이르게 하였거니와 후에는 내가 그들을 모아 고국 땅으로 돌아오게 하고 그 한 사람도 이방에 남기지 아니하리니 그들이 내가 여호와 자기들의 하나님인 줄을 알리라

겔39:29 내가 다시는 내 얼굴을 그들에게 가리지 아니하리니 이는 내가 내 영을 이스라엘 족속에게 쏟았음이라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

시편 90 장.

시90:1 주여 주는 대대에 우리의 거처가 되셨나이다

시90:2 산이 생기기 전, 땅과 세계도 주께서 조성하시기 전 곧 영원부터 영원까지 주는 하나님이시니이다

시90:3 주께서 사람을 티끌로 돌아가게 하시고 말씀하시기를 너희 인생들은 돌아가라 하셨사오니

시90:4 주의 목전에는 천 년이 지나간 어제 같으며 밤의 한 순간 같을 뿐임이니이다

시90:5 주께서 그들을 홍수처럼 쓸어가시나이다 그들은 잠깐 자는 것 같으며 아침에 돋는 풀 같으니이다

시90:6 풀은 아침에 꽃이 피어 자라다가 저녁에는 시들어 마르나이다

시90:7 우리는 주의 노에 소멸되며 주의 분내심에 놀라나이다

시90:8 주께서 우리의 죄악을 주의 앞에 놓으시며 우리의 은밀한 죄를 주의 얼굴 빛 가운데에 두셨사오니

시90:9 우리의 모든 날이 주의 분노 중에 지나가며 우리의 평생이 순식간에 다하였나이다

시90:10 우리의 연수가 칠십이요 강건하면 팔십이라도 그 연수의 자랑은 수고와 슬픔뿐이요 신속히 가니 우리가 날아가나이다

시90:11 누가 주의 노여움의 능력을 알며 누가 주의 진노의 두려움을 알리이까

시90:12 우리에게 우리 날 계수함을 가르치사 지혜로운 마음을 얻게 하소서

시90:13 여호와여 돌아오소서 언제까지니이까 주의 종들을 불쌍히 여기소서

시90:14 아침에 주의 인자하심이 우리를 만족하게 하사 우리를 일생 동안 즐겁고 기쁘게 하소서

시90:15 우리를 괴롭게 하신 날수대로와 우리가 화를 당한 연수대로 우리를 기쁘게 하소서

시90:16 주께서 행하신 일을 주의 종들에게 나타내시며 주의 영광을 그들의 자손에게 나타내소서

시90:17 주 우리 하나님의 은총을 우리에게 내리게 하사 우리의 손이 행한 일을 우리에게 견고하게 하소서 우리의 손이 행한 일을 견고하게 하소서

1 Kings 9.

9:1 When Solomon had finished building the temple of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do,

9:2 the LORD appeared to him a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

9:3 The LORD said to him: "I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.

9:4 "As for you, if you walk before me in integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws,

9:5 I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, 'You shall never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'

9:6 "But if you or your sons turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them,

9:7 then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.

9:8 And though this temple is now imposing, all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff and say, 'Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?'

9:9 People will answer, 'Because they have forsaken the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them--that is why the LORD brought all this disaster on them.'"

9:10 At the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built these two buildings--the temple of the LORD and the royal palace--

9:11 King Solomon gave twenty towns in Galilee to Hiram king of Tyre, because Hiram had supplied him with all the cedar and pine and gold he wanted.

9:12 But when Hiram went from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them.

9:13 "What kind of towns are these you have given me, my brother?" he asked. And he called them the Land of Cabul, a name they have to this day.

9:14 Now Hiram had sent to the king 120 talents of gold.

9:15 Here is the account of the forced labor King Solomon conscripted to build the LORD'S temple, his own palace, the supporting terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo and Gezer.

9:16 (Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured Gezer. He had set it on fire. He killed its Canaanite inhabitants and then gave it as a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon's wife.

9:17 And Solomon rebuilt Gezer.) He built up Lower Beth Horon,

9:18 Baalath, and Tadmor in the desert, within his land,

9:19 as well as all his store cities and the towns for his chariots and for his horses--whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled.

9:20 All the people left from the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (these peoples were not Israelites),

9:21 that is, their descendants remaining in the land, whom the Israelites could not exterminate--these Solomon conscripted for his slave labor force, as it is to this day.

9:22 But Solomon did not make slaves of any of the Israelites; they were his fighting men, his government officials, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his chariots and charioteers.

9:23 They were also the chief officials in charge of Solomon's projects--550 officials supervising the men who did the work.

9:24 After Pharaoh's daughter had come up from the City of David to the palace Solomon had built for her, he constructed the supporting terraces.

9:25 Three times a year Solomon sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, burning incense before the LORD along with them, and so fulfilled the temple obligations.

9:26 King Solomon also built ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath in Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea.

9:27 And Hiram sent his men--sailors who knew the sea--to serve in the fleet with Solomon's men.

9:28 They sailed to Ophir and brought back 420 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.

Ephesians 6.

6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

6:2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise--

6:3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

6:6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

6:7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,

6:8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

6:9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

6:11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

6:13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

6:14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

6:15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

6:16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

6:19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,

6:20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

6:21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing.

6:22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you.

6:23 Peace to the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ezekiel 39.

39:1 "Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.

39:2 I will turn you around and drag you along. I will bring you from the far north and send you against the mountains of Israel.

39:3 Then I will strike your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand.

39:4 On the mountains of Israel you will fall, you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to all kinds of carrion birds and to the wild animals.

39:5 You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD.

39:6 I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD.

39:7 "'I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned, and the nations will know that I the LORD am the Holy One in Israel.

39:8 It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign LORD. This is the day I have spoken of.

39:9 "'Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up--the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.

39:10 They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign LORD.

39:11 "'On that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, in the valley of those who travel east toward the Sea. It will block the way of travelers, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon Gog.

39:12 "'For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.

39:13 All the people of the land will bury them, and the day I am glorified will be a memorable day for them, declares the Sovereign LORD.

39:14 "'Men will be regularly employed to cleanse the land. Some will go throughout the land and, in addition to them, others will bury those that remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search.

39:15 As they go through the land and one of them sees a human bone, he will set up a marker beside it until the gravediggers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog.

39:16 (Also a town called Hamonah will be there.) And so they will cleanse the land.'

39:17 "Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Call out to every kind of bird and all the wild animals: 'Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrifice I am preparing for you, the great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.

39:18 You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls--all of them fattened animals from Bashan.

39:19 At the sacrifice I am preparing for you, you will eat fat till you are glutted and drink blood till you are drunk.

39:20 At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, mighty men and soldiers of every kind,' declares the Sovereign LORD.

39:21 "I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the punishment I inflict and the hand I lay upon them.

39:22 From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.

39:23 And the nations will know that the people of Israel went into exile for their sin, because they were unfaithful to me. So I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, and they all fell by the sword.

39:24 I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and their offenses, and I hid my face from them.

39:25 "Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will now bring Jacob back from captivity and will have compassion on all the people of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name.

39:26 They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety in their land with no one to make them afraid.

39:27 When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I will show myself holy through them in the sight of many nations.

39:28 Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, for though I sent them into exile among the nations, I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind.

39:29 I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Sovereign LORD."

Psalms 90.

90:1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.

90:2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

90:3 You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men."

90:4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.

90:5 You sweep men away in the sleep of death; they are like the new grass of the morning--

90:6 though in the morning it springs up new, by evening it is dry and withered.

90:7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.

90:8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

90:9 All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.

90:10 The length of our days is seventy years--or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

90:11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.

90:12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

90:13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants.

90:14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

90:15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.

90:16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children.

90:17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands.
