열왕기상 8 장.

왕상8:1 이에 솔로몬이 여호와의 언약궤를 다윗 성 곧 시온에서 메어 올리고자 하여 이스라엘 장로와 모든 지파의 우두머리 곧 이스라엘 자손의 족장들을 예루살렘에 있는 자기에게로 소집하니

왕상8:2 이스라엘 모든 사람이 다 에다님월 곧 일곱째 달 절기에 솔로몬 왕에게 모이고

왕상8:3 이스라엘 장로들이 다 이르매 제사장들이 궤를 메니라

왕상8:4 여호와의 궤와 회막과 성막 안의 모든 거룩한 기구들을 메고 올라가되 제사장과 레위 사람이 그것들을 메고 올라가매

왕상8:5 솔로몬 왕과 그 앞에 모인 이스라엘 회중이 그와 함께 그 궤 앞에 있어 양과 소로 제사를 지냈으니 그 수가 많아 기록할 수도 없고 셀 수도 없었더라

왕상8:6 제사장들이 여호와의 언약궤를 자기의 처소로 메어 들였으니 곧 성전의 내소인 지성소 그룹들의 날개 아래라

왕상8:7 그룹들이 그 궤 처소 위에서 날개를 펴서 궤와 그 채를 덮었는데

왕상8:8 채가 길므로 채 끝이 내소 앞 성소에서 보이나 밖에서는 보이지 아니하며 그 채는 오늘까지 그 곳에 있으며

왕상8:9 그 궤 안에는 두 돌판 외에 아무 것도 없으니 이것은 이스라엘 자손이 애굽 땅에서 나온 후 여호와께서 저희와 언약을 맺으실 때에 모세가 호렙에서 그 안에 넣은 것이더라

왕상8:10 제사장이 성소에서 나올 때에 구름이 여호와의 성전에 가득하매

왕상8:11 제사장이 그 구름으로 말미암아 능히 서서 섬기지 못하였으니 이는 여호와의 영광이 여호와의 성전에 가득함이었더라

왕상8:12 그 때에 솔로몬이 이르되 여호와께서 캄캄한데 계시겠다 말씀하셨사오나

왕상8:13 내가 참으로 주를 위하여 계실 성전을 건축하였사오니 주께서 영원히 계실 처소로소이다 하고

왕상8:14 얼굴을 돌이켜 이스라엘의 온 회중을 위하여 축복하니 그 때에 이스라엘의 온 회중이 서 있더라

왕상8:15 왕이 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 송축할지로다 여호와께서 그의 입으로 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하신 것을 이제 그의 손으로 이루셨도다 이르시기를

왕상8:16 내가 내 백성 이스라엘을 애굽에서 인도하여 낸 날부터 내 이름을 둘 만한 집을 건축하기 위하여 이스라엘 모든 지파 가운데에서 아무 성읍도 택하지 아니하고 다만 다윗을 택하여 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리게 하였노라 하신지라

왕상8:17 내 아버지 다윗이 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있었더니

왕상8:18 여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 이르시되 네가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축할 마음이 있으니 이 마음이 네게 있는 것이 좋도다

왕상8:19 그러나 너는 그 성전을 건축하지 못할 것이요 네 몸에서 낳을 네 아들 그가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하리라 하시더니

왕상8:20 이제 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 이루시도다 내가 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 내 아버지 다윗을 이어서 일어나 이스라엘의 왕위에 앉고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하고

왕상8:21 내가 또 그 곳에 우리 조상들을 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 내실 때에 그들과 세우신 바 여호와의 언약을 넣은 궤를 위하여 한 처소를 설치하였노라

왕상8:22 솔로몬이 여호와의 제단 앞에서 이스라엘의 온 회중과 마주서서 하늘을 향하여 손을 펴고

왕상8:23 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 위로 하늘과 아래로 땅에 주와 같은 신이 없나이다 주께서는 온 마음으로 주의 앞에서 행하는 종들에게 언약을 지키시고 은혜를 베푸시나이다

왕상8:24 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀을 지키사 주의 입으로 말씀하신 것을 손으로 이루심이 오늘과 같으니이다

왕상8:25 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하시기를 네 자손이 자기 길을 삼가서 네가 내 앞에서 행한 것 같이 내 앞에서 행하기만 하면 네게서 이스라엘의 왕위에 앉을 사람이 내 앞에서 끊어지지 아니하리라 하셨사오니 이제 다윗을 위하여 그 하신 말씀을 지키시옵소서

왕상8:26 그런즉 이스라엘의 하나님이여 원하건대 주는 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀이 확실하게 하옵소서

왕상8:27 하나님이 참으로 땅에 거하시리이까 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘이라도 주를 용납하지 못하겠거든 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전이오리이까

왕상8:28 그러나 내 하나님 여호와여 주의 종의 기도와 간구를 돌아보시며 이 종이 오늘 주 앞에서 부르짖음과 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

왕상8:29 주께서 전에 말씀하시기를 내 이름이 거기 있으리라 하신 곳 이 성전을 향하여 주의 눈이 주야로 보시오며 주의 종이 이 곳을 향하여 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서

왕상8:30 주의 종과 주의 백성 이스라엘이 이 곳을 향하여 기도할 때에 주는 그 간구함을 들으시되 주께서 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 들으시사 사하여 주옵소서

왕상8:31 만일 어떤 사람이 그 이웃에게 범죄함으로 맹세시킴을 받고 그가 와서 이 성전에 있는 주의 제단 앞에서 맹세하거든

왕상8:32 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 행하시되 주의 종들을 심판하사 악한 자의 죄를 정하여 그 행위대로 그 머리에 돌리시고 공의로운 자를 의롭다 하사 그의 의로운바 대로 갚으시옵소서

왕상8:33 만일 주의 백성 이스라엘이 주께 범죄하여 적국 앞에 패하게 되므로 주께로 돌아와서 주의 이름을 인정하고 이 성전에서 주께 기도하며 간구하거든

왕상8:34 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅으로 돌아오게 하옵소서

왕상8:35 만일 그들이 주께 범죄함으로 말미암아 하늘이 닫히고 비가 없어서 주께 벌을 받을 때에 이 곳을 향하여 기도하며 주의 이름을 찬양하고 그들의 죄에서 떠나거든

왕상8:36 주는 하늘에서 들으사 주의 종들과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 죄를 사하시고 그들이 마땅히 행할 선한 길을 가르쳐 주시오며 주의 백성에게 기업으로 주신 주의 땅에 비를 내리시옵소서

왕상8:37 만일 이 땅에 기근이나 전염병이 있거나 곡식이 시들거나 깜부기가 나거나 메뚜기나 황충이 나거나 적국이 와서 성읍을 에워싸거나 무슨 재앙이나 무슨 질병이 있든지 막론하고

왕상8:38 한 사람이나 혹 주의 온 백성 이스라엘이 다 각각 자기의 마음에 재앙을 깨닫고 이 성전을 향하여 손을 펴고 무슨 기도나 무슨 간구를 하거든

왕상8:39 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 사하시며 각 사람의 마음을 아시오니 그들의 모든 행위대로 행하사 갚으시옵소서 주만 홀로 사람의 마음을 다 아심이니이다

왕상8:40 그리하시면 그들이 주께서 우리 조상들에게 주신 땅에서 사는 동안에 항상 주를 경외하리이다

왕상8:41 또 주의 백성 이스라엘에 속하지 아니한 자 곧 주의 이름을 위하여 먼 지방에서 온 이방인이라도

왕상8:42 그들이 주의 크신 이름과 주의 능한 손과 주의 펴신 팔의 소문을 듣고 와서 이 성전을 향하여 기도하거든

왕상8:43 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 이방인이 주께 부르짖는 대로 이루사 땅의 만민이 주의 이름을 알고 주의 백성 이스라엘처럼 경외하게 하시오며 또 내가 건축한 이 성전을 주의 이름으로 일컫는 줄을 알게 하옵소서

왕상8:44 주의 백성이 그들의 적국과 더불어 싸우고자 하여 주께서 보내신 길로 나갈 때에 그들이 주께서 택하신 성읍과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전이 있는 쪽을 향하여 여호와께 기도하거든

왕상8:45 주는 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌아보옵소서

왕상8:46 범죄치 아니하는 사람이 없사오니 그들이 주께 범죄함으로 주께서 그들에게 진노하사 그들을 적국에게 넘기시매 적국이 그들을 사로잡아 원근을 막론하고 적국의 땅으로 끌어간 후에

왕상8:47 그들이 사로잡혀 간 땅에서 스스로 깨닫고 그 사로잡은 자의 땅에서 돌이켜 주께 간구하기를 우리가 범죄하여 반역을 행하며 악을 지었나이다 하며

왕상8:48 자기를 사로잡아 간 적국의 땅에서 온 마음과 온 뜻으로 주께 돌아와서 주께서 그들의 조상들에게 주신 땅 곧 주께서 택하신 성읍과 내가 주의 이름을 위하여 건축한 성전 있는 쪽을 향하여 주께 기도하거든

왕상8:49 주는 계신 곳 하늘에서 그들의 기도와 간구를 들으시고 그들의 일을 돌아보시오며

왕상8:50 주께 범죄한 백성을 용서하시며 주께 범한 그 모든 허물을 사하시고 그들을 사로잡아 간 자 앞에서 그들로 불쌍히 여김을 얻게 하사 그 사람들로 그들을 불쌍히 여기게 하옵소서

왕상8:51 그들은 주께서 철 풀무 같은 애굽에서 인도하여 내신 주의 백성, 주의 소유가 됨이니이다

왕상8:52 원하건대 주는 눈을 들어 종의 간구함과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 간구함을 보시고 주께 부르짖는 대로 들으시옵소서

왕상8:53 주 여호와여 주께서 우리 조상을 애굽에서 인도하여 내실 때에 주의 종 모세를 통하여 말씀하심 같이 주께서 세상 만민 가운데에서 그들을 구별하여 주의 기업으로 삼으셨나이다

왕상8:54 솔로몬이 무릎을 꿇고 손을 펴서 하늘을 향하여 이 기도와 간구로 여호와께 아뢰기를 마치고 여호와의 제단 앞에서 일어나

왕상8:55 서서 큰 소리로 이스라엘의 온 회중을 위하여 축복하며 이르되

왕상8:56 여호와를 찬송할지로다 그가 말씀하신 대로 그의 백성 이스라엘에게 태평을 주셨으니 그 종 모세를 통하여 무릇 말씀하신 그 모든 좋은 약속이 하나도 이루어지지 아니함이 없도다

왕상8:57 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리 조상들과 함께 계시던 것 같이 우리와 함께 계시옵고 우리를 떠나지 마시오며 버리지 마시옵고

왕상8:58 우리의 마음을 주께로 향하여 그의 모든 길로 행하게 하시오며 우리 조상들에게 명령하신 계명과 법도와 율례를 지키게 하시기를 원하오며

왕상8:59 여호와 앞에서 내가 간구한 이 말씀이 주야로 우리 하나님 여호와께 가까이 있게 하시옵고 또 주의 종의 일과 주의 백성 이스라엘의 일을 날마다 필요한 대로 돌아보사

왕상8:60 이에 세상 만민에게 여호와께서만 하나님이시고 그 외에는 없는 줄을 알게 하시기를 원하노라

왕상8:61 그런즉 너희의 마음을 우리 하나님 여호와께 온전히 바쳐 완전하게 하여 오늘과 같이 그의 법도를 행하며 그의 계명을 지킬지어다

왕상8:62 이에 왕과 및 왕과 함께 한 이스라엘이 한 여호와 앞에 희생제물을 드리니라

왕상8:63 솔로몬이 화목제의 희생제물을 드렸으니 곧 여호와께 드린 소가 이만 이천 마리요 양이 십이만 마리라 이와 같이 왕과 모든 이스라엘 자손이 여호와의 성전의 봉헌식을 행하였는데

왕상8:64 그 날에 왕이 여호와의 성전 앞뜰 가운데를 거룩히 구별하고 거기서 번제와 소제와 감사제물의 기름을 드렸으니 이는 여호와의 앞 놋제단이 작으므로 번제물과 소제물과 화목제의 기름을 다 용납할 수 없음이라

왕상8:65 그 때에 솔로몬이 칠 일과 칠 일 도합 십사 일간을 우리 하나님 여호와 앞에서 절기로 지켰는데 하맛 어귀에서부터 애굽 강까지의 온 이스라엘의 큰 회중이 모여 그와 함께 하였더니

왕상8:66 여덟째 날에 솔로몬이 백성을 돌려보내매 백성이 왕을 위하여 축복하고 자기 장막으로 돌아가는데 여호와께서 그의 종 다윗과 그의 백성 이스라엘에게 베푸신 모든 은혜로 말미암아 기뻐하며 마음에 즐거워하였더라

에베소서 5 장.

엡5:1 그러므로 사랑을 받은 자녀같이 너희는 하나님을 본받는 자가 되고

엡5:2 그리스도께서 너희를 사랑하신 것 같이 너희도 사랑 가운데서 행하라 그는 우리를 위하여 자신을 버리사 향기로운 제물과 희생제물로 하나님께 드리셨느니라

엡5:3 음행과 온갖 더러운 것과 탐욕은 너희 중에서 그 이름조차도 부르지 말라 이는 성도에게 마땅한 바니라

엡5:4 누추함과 어리석은 말이나 희롱의 말이 마땅치 아니하니 오히려 감사하는 말을 하라

엡5:5 너희도 정녕 이것을 알거니와 음행하는 자나 더러운 자나 탐하는 자 곧 우상 숭배자는 다 그리스도와 하나님 나라에서 기업을 얻지 못하리니

엡5:6 누구든지 헛된 말로 너희를 속이지 못하게 하라 이로 말미암아 하나님의 진노가 불순종의 아들들에게 임하나니

엡5:7 그러므로 그들과 함께 하는 자가 되지 말라

엡5:8 너희가 전에는 어둠이더니 이제는 주 안에서 빛이라 빛의 자녀들처럼 행하라

엡5:9 빛의 열매는 모든 착함과 의로움과 진실함에 있느니라

엡5:10 주께 기쁘시게 할 것이 무엇인가 시험하여 보라

엡5:11 너희는 열매 없는 어둠의 일에 참여하지 말고 도리어 책망하라

엡5:12 그들의 은밀히 행하는 것들은 말하기도 부끄러운 것들이라

엡5:13 그러나 책망을 받는 모든 것은 빛으로 말미암아 드러나나니 드러나는 것마다 빛이니라

엡5:14 그러므로 이르시기를 잠자는 자여 깨어서 죽은 자들 가운데서 일어나라 그리스도께서 너에게 비추이시리라 하셨느니라

엡5:15 그런즉 너희가 어떻게 행할 지를 자세히 주의하여 지혜 없는 자 같이 말고 오직 지혜 있는 자 같이 하여

엡5:16 세월을 아끼라 때가 악하니라

엡5:17 그러므로 어리석은 자가 되지 말고 오직 주의 뜻이 무엇인가 이해하라

엡5:18 술 취하지 말라 이는 방탕한 것이니 오직 성령으로 충만을 받으라

엡5:19 시와 찬송과 신령한 노래들로 서로 화답하며 너희의 마음으로 주께 노래하며 찬송하며

엡5:20 범사에 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 항상 아버지 하나님께 감사하며

엡5:21 그리스도를 경외함으로 피차 복종하라

엡5:22 아내들이여 자기 남편에게 복종하기를 주께 하듯 하라

엡5:23 이는 남편이 아내의 머리 됨이 그리스도께서 교회의 머리 됨과 같음이니 그가 바로 몸의 구주시니라

엡5:24 그러나 교회가 그리스도에게 하듯 아내들도 범사에 자기 남편에게 복종할지니라

엡5:25 남편들아 아내 사랑하기를 그리스도께서 교회를 사랑하시고 그 교회를 위하여 자신을 주심 같이 하라

엡5:26 이는 곧 물로 씻어 말씀으로 깨끗하게 하사 거룩하게 하시고

엡5:27 자기 앞에 영광스러운 교회로 세우사 티나 주름 잡힌 것이나 이런 것들이 없이 거룩하고 흠이 없게 하려 하심이라

엡5:28 이와 같이 남편들도 자기 아내 사랑하기를 자기 자신과 같이 할지니 자기 아내를 사랑하는 자는 자기를 사랑하는 것이라

엡5:29 누구든지 언제나 자기 육체를 미워하지 않고 오직 양육하여 보호하기를 그리스도께서 교회에게 함과 같이 하나니

엡5:30 우리는 그 몸의 지체임이라

엡5:31 그러므로 사람이 부모를 떠나 그 아내와 합하여 그 둘이 한 육체가 될지니

엡5:32 이 비밀이 크도다 나는 그리스도와 교회에 대하여 말하노라

엡5:33 그러나 너희도 각각 자기의 아내 사랑하기를 자신 같이 하고 아내도 자기 남편을 존경하라

에스겔 38 장.

겔38:1 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

겔38:2 인자야 너는 마곡 땅에 있는 로스와 메섹과 두발 왕 곧 곡에게로 얼굴을 향하고 그에게 예언하여

겔38:3 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 로스와 메섹과 두 발 왕 곡아 내가 너를 대적하여

겔38:4 너를 돌이켜 갈고리로 네 아가리를 꿰고 너와 말과 기마병 곧 네 온 군대를 끌어내되 완전한 갑옷을 입고 큰 방패와 작은 방패를 가지며 칼을 잡은 큰 무리와

겔38:5 그들과 함께 한 방패와 투구를 갖춘 바사와 구스와 붓과

겔38:6 고멜과 그 모든 떼와 북쪽 끝의 도갈마 족속과 그 모든 떼 곧 많은 백성의 무리를 너와 함께 끌어내리라

겔38:7 너는 스스로 예비하되 너와 네게 모인 무리들이 다 스스로 예비하고 너는 그들의 우두머리가 될지어다

겔38:8 여러 날 후 곧 말년에 네가 명령을 받고 그 땅 곧 오래 황폐하였던 이스라엘 산에 이르리니 그 땅 백성은 칼을 벗어나서 여러 나라에서 모여 들어오며 이방에서 나와 다 평안히 거주하는 중이라

겔38:9 네가 올라오되 너와 네 모든 떼와 너와 함께 한 많은 백성이 광풍 같이 이르고 구름 같이 땅을 덮으리라

겔38:10 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 그 날에 네 마음에서 여러 가지 생각이 나서 악한 꾀를 내어

겔38:11 말하기를 내가 평원의 고을들로 올라가리라 성벽도 없고 문이나 빗장이 없어도 염려 없이 다 평안히 거주하는 백성에게 나아가서

겔38:12 물건을 겁탈하며 노략하리라 하고 네 손을 들어서 황폐하였다가 지금 사람이 거주하는 땅과 여러 나라에서 모여서 짐승과 재물을 얻고 세상 중앙에 거주하는 백성을 치고자 할 때에

겔38:13 스바와 드단과 다시스의 상인과 그 부자들이 네게 이르기를 네가 탈취하러 왔느냐 네가 네 무리를 모아 노략하고자 하느냐 은과 금을 빼앗으며 짐승과 재물을 빼앗으며 물건을 크게 약탈하여 가고자 하느냐 하리라

겔38:14 인자야 너는 또 예언하여 곡에게 이르기를 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 내 백성 이스라엘이 평안히 거주하는 날에 네가 어찌 그것을 알지 못하겠느냐

겔38:15 네가 네 고국 땅 북쪽 끝에서 많은 백성 곧 다 말을 탄 큰 무리와 능한 군대와 함께 오되

겔38:16 구름이 땅을 덮음 같이 내 백성 이스라엘을 치러 오리라 곡아 끝 날에 내가 너를 이끌어다가 내 땅을 치게 하리니 이는 내가 너로 말미암아 이방 사람의 눈 앞에서 내 거룩함을 나타내어 그들이 다 나를 알게 하려 함이라

겔38:17 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 내가 옛적에 내 종 이스라엘 선지자들을 통하여 말한 사람이 네가 아니냐 그들이 그 때에 여러 해 동안 예언하기를 내가 너를 이끌어다가 그들을 치게 하리라

겔38:18 그 날에 곡이 이스라엘 땅을 치러 오면 내 노여움이 내 얼굴에 나타나리라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔38:19 내가 질투와 맹렬한 노여움으로 말하였거니와 그 날에 큰 지진이 이스라엘 땅에 일어나서

겔38:20 바다의 고기들과 공중의 새들과 들의 짐승들과 땅에 기는 모든 벌레와 지면에 있는 모든 사람이 내 앞에서 떨 것이며 모든 산이 무너지며 절벽이 떨어지며 모든 성벽이 땅에 무너지리라

겔38:21 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 내가 내 모든 산 중에서 그를 칠 칼을 부르리니 각 사람이 칼로 그 형제를 칠 것이며

겔38:22 내가 또 전염병과 피로 그를 심판하며 쏟아지는 폭우와 큰 우박 덩이와 불과 유황으로 그와 그 모든 무리와 그와 함께 있는 많은 백성에게 비를 내리듯 하리라

겔38:23 이같이 내가 여러 나라의 눈에 내 위대함과 내 거룩함을 나타내어 나를 알게 하리니 내가 여호와인 줄을 그들이 알리라

시편 89 장.

시89:1 내가 여호와의 인자하심을 영원히 노래하며 주의 성실하심을 내 입으로 대대에 알게 하리 이다

시89:2 내가 말하기를 인자하심을 영원히 세우시며 주의 성실하심을 하늘에서 견고히 하시리라 하였나이다

시89:3 주께서 이르시되 나는 내가 택한 자와 언약을 맺으며 내 종 다윗에게 맹세하기를

시89:4 내가 네 자손을 영원히 견고히 하며 네 왕위를 대대에 세우리라 하셨나이다 (셀라)

시89:5 여호와여 주의 기이한 일을 하늘이 찬양할 것이요 주의 성실도 거룩한 자들의 모임 가운데에서 찬양하리이다

시89:6 무릇 구름 위에서 능히 여호와와 비교할 자 누구며 신들 중에서 여호와와 같은 자 누구리이까

시89:7 하나님은 거룩한 자의 모임 가운데에서 매우 무서워할 이시오며 둘러 있는 모든 자 위에 더욱 두려워할 이시니이다

시89:8 여호와 만군의 하나님이여 주와 같이 능력 있는 이가 누구리이까 여호와여 주의 성실하심이 주를 둘렀나이다

시89:9 주께서 바다의 파도를 다스리시며 그 파도가 일어날 때에 잔잔하게 하시나이다

시89:10 주께서 라합을 죽임 당한 자 같이 깨뜨리시고 주의 원수를 주의 능력의 팔로 흩으셨나이다

시89:11 하늘이 주의 것이요 땅도 주의 것이라 세계와 그 중에 충만한 것을 주께서 건설하셨나이다

시89:12 남북을 주께서 창조하셨으니 다볼과 헤르몬이 주의 이름으로 말미암아 즐거워하나이다

시89:13 주의 팔에 능력이 있사오며 주의 손은 강하고 주의 오른손은 높이 들리우셨나이다

시89:14 공의와 정의가 주의 보좌의 기초라 인자함과 진실함이 주 앞에 있나이다

1 Kings 8.

8:1 Then King Solomon summoned into his presence at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the chiefs of the Israelite families, to bring up the ark of the LORD'S covenant from Zion, the City of David.

8:2 All the men of Israel came together to King Solomon at the time of the festival in the month of Ethanim, the seventh month.

8:3 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark,

8:4 and they brought up the ark of the LORD and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred furnishings in it. The priests and Levites carried them up,

8:5 and King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted.

8:6 The priests then brought the ark of the LORD'S covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim.

8:7 The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles.

8:8 These poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today.

8:9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.

8:10 When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the LORD.

8:11 And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled his temple.

8:12 Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud;

8:13 I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever."

8:14 While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them.

8:15 Then he said: "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said,

8:16 'Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built for my Name to be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.'

8:17 "My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

8:18 But the LORD said to my father David, 'Because it was in your heart to build a temple for my Name, you did well to have this in your heart.

8:19 Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, who is your own flesh and blood--he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.'

8:20 "The LORD has kept the promise he made: I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

8:21 I have provided a place there for the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD that he made with our fathers when he brought them out of Egypt."

8:22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven

8:23 and said: "O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below--you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.

8:24 You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it--as it is today.

8:25 "Now LORD, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, 'You shall never fail to have a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons are careful in all they do to walk before me as you have done.'

8:26 And now, O God of Israel, let your word that you promised your servant David my father come true.

8:27 "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!

8:28 Yet give attention to your servant's prayer and his plea for mercy, O LORD my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.

8:29 May your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, this place of which you said, 'My Name shall be there,' so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place.

8:30 Hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.

8:31 "When a man wrongs his neighbor and is required to take an oath and he comes and swears the oath before your altar in this temple,

8:32 then hear from heaven and act. Judge between your servants, condemning the guilty and bringing down on his own head what he has done. Declare the innocent not guilty, and so establish his innocence.

8:33 "When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you, and when they turn back to you and confess your name, praying and making supplication to you in this temple,

8:34 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them back to the land you gave to their fathers.

8:35 "When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and confess your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them,

8:36 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Teach them the right way to live, and send rain on the land you gave your people for an inheritance.

8:37 "When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities, whatever disaster or disease may come,

8:38 and when a prayer or plea is made by any of your people Israel--each one aware of the afflictions of his own heart, and spreading out his hands toward this temple--

8:39 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with each man according to all he does, since you know his heart (for you alone know the hearts of all men),

8:40 so that they will fear you all the time they live in the land you gave our fathers.

8:41 "As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your name--

8:42 for men will hear of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm--when he comes and prays toward this temple,

8:43 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name.

8:44 "When your people go to war against their enemies, wherever you send them, and when they pray to the LORD toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name,

8:45 then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.

8:46 "When they sin against you--for there is no one who does not sin--and you become angry with them and give them over to the enemy, who takes them captive to his own land, far away or near;

8:47 and if they have a change of heart in the land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of their conquerors and say, 'We have sinned, we have done wrong, we have acted wickedly';

8:48 and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and pray to you toward the land you gave their fathers, toward the city you have chosen and the temple I have built for your Name;

8:49 then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear their prayer and their plea, and uphold their cause.

8:50 And forgive your people, who have sinned against you; forgive all the offenses they have committed against you, and cause their conquerors to show them mercy;

8:51 for they are your people and your inheritance, whom you brought out of Egypt, out of that iron-smelting furnace.

8:52 "May your eyes be open to your servant's plea and to the plea of your people Israel, and may you listen to them whenever they cry out to you.

8:53 For you singled them out from all the nations of the world to be your own inheritance, just as you declared through your servant Moses when you, O Sovereign LORD, brought our fathers out of Egypt."

8:54 When Solomon had finished all these prayers and supplications to the LORD, he rose from before the altar of the LORD, where he had been kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven.

8:55 He stood and blessed the whole assembly of Israel in a loud voice, saying:

8:56 "Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.

8:57 May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us.

8:58 May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways and to keep the commands, decrees and regulations he gave our fathers.

8:59 And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day's need,

8:60 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God and that there is no other.

8:61 But your hearts must be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time."

8:62 Then the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifices before the LORD.

8:63 Solomon offered a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to the LORD: twenty-two thousand cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the temple of the LORD.

8:64 On that same day the king consecrated the middle part of the courtyard in front of the temple of the LORD, and there he offered burnt offerings, grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings, because the bronze altar before the LORD was too small to hold the burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the fat of the fellowship offerings.

8:65 So Solomon observed the festival at that time, and all Israel with him--a vast assembly, people from Lebo Hamath to the Wadi of Egypt. They celebrated it before the LORD our God for seven days and seven days more, fourteen days in all.

8:66 On the following day he sent the people away. They blessed the king and then went home, joyful and glad in heart for all the good things the LORD had done for his servant David and his people Israel.

Ephesians 5.

5:1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children

5:2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

5:3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.

5:4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

5:5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient.

5:7 Therefore do not be partners with them.

5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light

5:9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)

5:10 and find out what pleases the Lord.

5:11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

5:12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

5:13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible,

5:14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

5:15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,

5:16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

5:17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

5:19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord,

5:20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

5:21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

5:22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.

5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

5:24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

5:26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,

5:27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

5:28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

5:29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church--

5:30 for we are members of his body.

5:31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."

5:32 This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church.

5:33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Ezekiel 38.

38:1 The word of the LORD came to me:

38:2 "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him

38:3 and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.

38:4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army--your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords.

38:5 Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets,

38:6 also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops--the many nations with you.

38:7 "'Get ready; be prepared, you and all the hordes gathered about you, and take command of them.

38:8 After many days you will be called to arms. In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety.

38:9 You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

38:10 "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil scheme.

38:11 You will say, "I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people--all of them living without walls and without gates and bars.

38:12 I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land."

38:13 Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages will say to you, "Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?"'

38:14 "Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it?

38:15 You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army.

38:16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In days to come, O Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I show myself holy through you before their eyes.

38:17 "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Are you not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel? At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them.

38:18 This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign LORD.

38:19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.

38:20 The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground.

38:21 I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD. Every man's sword will be against his brother.

38:22 I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.

38:23 And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of iany nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.'

Psalms 89.

89:1 I will sing of the LORD'S great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.

89:2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself.

89:3 You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,

89:4 'I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.'" Selah

89:5 The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.

89:6 For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings?

89:7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him.

89:8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

89:9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them.

89:10 You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies.

89:11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.

89:12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name.

89:13 Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.

89:14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.

89:15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD.

89:16 They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness.

89:17 For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn.

89:18 Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.

89:19 Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: "I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have exalted a young man from among the people.

89:20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him.

89:21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him.

89:22 No enemy will subject him to tribute; no wicked man will oppress him.

89:23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries.

89:24 My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.

89:25 I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.

89:26 He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.'

89:27 I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth.

89:28 I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail.

89:29 I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.

89:30 "If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes,

89:31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands,

89:32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging;

89:33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.

89:34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.

89:35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness--and I will not lie to David--

89:36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun;

89:37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." Selah

89:38 But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one.

89:39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust.

89:40 You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins.

89:41 All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors.

89:42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.

89:43 You have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle.

89:44 You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground.

89:45 You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame. Selah

89:46 How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?

89:47 Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all men!

89:48 What man can live and not see death, or save himself from the power of the grave? Selah

89:49 O Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David?

89:50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,

89:51 the taunts with which your enemies have mocked, O LORD, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.

89:52 Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
