사무엘하 15 장.

삼하15:1 그 후에 압살롬이 자기를 위하여 병거와 말들을 준비하고 호위병 오십 명을 그 앞에 세우니라

삼하15:2 압살롬이 일찍이 일어나 성문 길 곁에 서서 어떤 사람이든지 송사가 있어 왕에게 재판을 청하러 올 때에 그 사람을 불러 이르되 너는 어느 성읍 사람이냐 하니 그 사람의 대답이 종은 이스라엘 아무 지파에 속하였나이다 하면

삼하15:3 압살롬이 그에게 이르기를 보라 네 일이 옳고 바르다마는 네 송사를 들을 사람을 왕께서 세우지 아니하셨다 하고

삼하15:4 또 압살롬이 이르기를 내가 이 땅에서 재판관이 되고 누구든지 송사나 재판할 일이 있어 내게로 오는 자에게 내가 정의 베풀기를 원하노라 하고

삼하15:5 사람이 가까이 와서 그에게 절하려 하면 압살롬이 손을 펴서 그 사람을 붙들고 그에게 입을 맞추니

삼하15:6 이스라엘 무리 중에 왕께 재판을 청하러 오는 자들마다 압살롬의 행함이 이와 같아서 이스라엘 사람의 마음을 압살롬이 훔치니라

삼하15:7 사 년 만에 압살롬이 왕께 아뢰되 내가 여호와께 서원한 것이 있사오니 청하건대 내가 헤브론에 가서 그 서원을 이루게 하소서

삼하15:8 당신의 종이 아람 그술에 있을 때에 서원하기를 만일 여호와께서 반드시 나를 예루살렘으로 돌아가게 하시면 내가 여호와를 섬기리이다 하였나이다

삼하15:9 왕이 그에게 이르되 평안히 가라 하니 그가 일어나 헤브론으로 가니라

삼하15:10 이에 압살롬이 정탐을 이스라엘 모든 지파 가운데에 두루 보내 이르기를 너희는 나팔 소리를 듣거든 곧 말하기를 압살롬이 헤브론에서 왕이 되었다 하라 하니라

삼하15:11 그 때 이백 명이 압살롬과 함께 예루살렘에서부터 헤브론으로 내려갔으니 그들은 압살롬이 꾸민 그 모든 일을 알지 못하고 그저 따라가기만 한 사람들이라

삼하15:12 제사 드릴 때에 압살롬이 사람을 보내 다윗의 모사 길로 사람 아히도벨을 그의 성읍 길로에서 청하여 온지라 반역하는 일이 커가매 압살롬에게로 돌아오는 백성이 많아지니라

삼하15:13 전령이 다윗에게 와서 말하되 이스라엘의 인심이 다 압살롬에게로 돌아갔나이다 한지라

삼하15:14 다윗이 예루살렘에 함께 있는 그의 모든 신하들에게 이르되 일어나 도망하자 그렇지 아니하면 우리 중 한 사람도 압살롬에게서 피하지 못하리라 빨리 가자 두렵건대 그가 우리를 급히 따라와 우리를 해하고 칼날로 성읍을 칠까 하노라

삼하15:15 왕의 신하들이 왕께 이르되 우리 주 왕께서 하고자 하시는 대로 우리가 행하리이다 보소서 당신의 종들이니이다 하더라

삼하15:16 왕이 나갈 때에 그의 가족을 다 따르게 하고 후궁 열 명을 왕이 남겨 두어 왕궁을 지키게 하니라

삼하15:17 왕이 나가매 모든 백성이 다 따라서 벧메르학에 이르러 멈추어 서니

삼하15:18 그의 모든 신하들이 그의 곁으로 지나가고 모든 그렛 사람과 모든 블렛 사람과 및 왕을 따라 가드에서 온 모든 가드 사람 육백 명 이 왕 앞으로 행진하니라

삼하15:19 그 때에 왕이 가드 사람 잇대에게 이르되 어찌하여 너도 우리와 함께 가느냐 너는 쫓겨난 나그네이니 돌아가서 왕과 함께 네 곳에 있으라

삼하15:20 너는 어제 왔고 나는 정처 없이 가니 오늘 어찌 너를 우리와 함께 떠돌아다니게 하리요 너도 돌아가고 네 동포들도 데려가라 은혜와 진리가 너와 함께 있기를 원하노라 하니라

삼하15:21 잇대가 왕께 대답하여 이르되 여호와의 살아 계심과 내 주 왕의 살아 계심으로 맹세하옵나니 진실로 내 주 왕께서 어느 곳에 계시든지 사나 죽으나 종도 그 곳에 있겠나이다 하니

삼하15:22 다윗이 잇대에게 이르되 앞서 건너가라 하매 가드 사람 잇대와 그의 수행자들과 그와 함께 한 아이들이 다 건너가고

삼하15:23 온 땅 사람이 큰 소리로 울며 모든 백성이 앞서 건너가매 왕도 기드론 시내를 건너가니 건너간 모든 백성이 광야 길로 향하니라

삼하15:24 보라 사독과 그와 함께 한 모든 레위 사람도 하나님의 언약궤를 메어다가 하나님의 궤를 내려놓고 아비아달도 올라와서 모든 백성이 성에서 나오기를 기다리도다

삼하15:25 왕이 사독에게 이르되 보라 하나님의 궤를 성읍으로 도로 메어 가라 만일 내가 여호와 앞에서 은혜를 입으면 도로 나를 인도하사 내게 그 궤와 그 계신 데를 보이시리라

삼하15:26 그러나 그가 이와 같이 말씀하시기를 내가 너를 기뻐하지 아니한다 하시면 종이 여기 있사오니 선히 여기시는 대로 내게 행하시옵소서 하리라

삼하15:27 왕이 또 제사장 사독에게 이르되 네가 선견자가 아니냐 너는 너희의 두 아들 곧 네 아들 아히마아스와 아비아달의 아들 요나단을 데리고 평안히 성읍으로 돌아가라

삼하15:28 너희에게서 내게 알리는 소식이 올 때까지 내가 광야 나루터에서 기다리리라 하니라

삼하15:29 사독과 아비아달이 하나님의 궤를 예루살렘으로 도로 메어다 놓고 거기 머물러 있으니라

삼하15:30 다윗이 감람 산 길로 올라갈 때에 그의 머리를 그가 가리고 맨 발로 울며 가고 그와 함께 가는 모든 백성들도 각각 자기의 머리를 가리고 울며 올라가니라

삼하15:31 어떤 사람이 다윗에게 알리되 압살롬과 함께 모반한 자들 가운데 아히도벨이 있나이다 하니 다윗이 이르되 여호와여 원하옵건대 아히도벨의 모략을 어리석게 하옵소서 하니라

삼하15:32 다윗이 하나님을 경배하는 마루턱에 이를 때에 아렉 사람 후새가 옷을 찢고 흙을 머리에 덮어쓰고 다윗을 맞으러 온지라

삼하15:33 다윗이 그에게 이르되 네가 만일 나와 함께 나아가면 내게 누를 끼치리라

삼하15:34 그러나 네가 만일 성읍으로 돌아가서 압살롬에게 말하기를 왕이여 내가 왕의 종이니이다 전에는 내가 왕의 아버지의 종이었더니 이제는 내가 왕의 종이니이다 하면 네가 나를 위하여 아히도벨의 모략을 패하게 하리라

삼하15:35 사독과 아비아달 두 제사장이 너와 함께 거기 있지 아니하냐 네가 왕의 궁중에서 무엇을 듣든지 사독과 아비아달 두 제사장에게 알리라

삼하15:36 그들의 두 아들 곧 사독의 아히마아스와 아비아달의 요나단이 그들과 함께 거기 있나니 너희가 듣는 모든 것을 그들 편에 내게 소식을 알릴지니라 하는지라

삼하15:37 다윗의 친구 후새가 곧 성읍으로 들어가고 압살롬도 예루살렘으로 들어갔더라

고린도후서 8 장.

고후8:1 형제들아 하나님께서 마게도냐 교회들에게 주신 은혜를 우리가 너희에게 알리노니

고후8:2 환난의 많은 시련 가운데서 그들의 넘치는 기쁨과 극심한 가난이 그들의 풍성한 연보를 넘치도록 하게 하였느니라

고후8:3 내가 증언하노니 그들이 힘대로 할 뿐 아니라 힘에 지나도록 자원하여

고후8:4 이 은혜와 성도 섬기는 일에 참여함에 대하여 우리에게 간절히 구하니

고후8:5 우리가 바라던 것뿐 아니라 그들이 먼저 자신을 주께 드리고 또 하나님 뜻을 따라 우리에게 주었도다

고후8:6 이러므로 우리가 디도를 권하여 그가 이미 너희 가운데서 시작하였은즉 이 은혜를 그대로 성취하게 하라 하였노라

고후8:7 오직 너희는 믿음과 말과 지식과 모든 간절함과 우리를 사랑하는 이 모든 일에 풍성한 것 같이 이 은혜에도 풍성하게 할지니라

고후8:8 내가 명령으로 하는 말이 아니요 오직 다른 이들의 간절함을 가지고 너희의 사랑의 진실함을 증명하고자 함이로라

고후8:9 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 은혜를 너희가 알거니와 부요하신 이로서 너희를 위하여 가난하게 되심은 그의 가난함으로 말미암아 너희를 부요하게 하려 하심이라

고후8:10 이 일에 나의 뜻을 알리노니 이 일은 너희에게 유익함이라 너희가 일 년 전에 행하기를 먼저 시작할 뿐 아니라 원하기도 하였은즉

고후8:11 이제는 하던 일을 성취할지니 마음에 원하던 것과 같이 완성하되 있는 대로 하라

고후8:12 할 마음만 있으면 있는 대로 받으실 터이요 없는 것은 받지 아니하시리라

고후8:13 이는 다른 사람들은 평안하게 하고 너희는 곤고하게 하려는 것이 아니요 균등하게 하려 함이니

고후8:14 이제 너희의 넉넉한 것으로 그들의 부족한 것을 보충함은 후에 그들의 넉넉한 것으로 너희의 부족한 것을 보충하여 균등하게 하려 함이라

고후8:15 기록된 것 같이 많이 거둔 자도 남지 아니하였고 적게 거둔 자도 모자라지 아니하였느니라

고후8:16 너희를 위하여 같은 간절함을 디도의 마음에도 주시는 하나님께 감사하노니

고후8:17 그가 권함을 받고 더욱 간절함으로 자원하여 너희에게 나아갔고

고후8:18 또 그와 함께 한 형제를 보내었으니 이 사람은 복음으로써 모든 교회에서 칭찬을 받는 자요

고후8:19 이뿐 아니라 그는 동일한 주의 영광과 우리의 원을 나타내기 위하여 여러 교회의 택함을 받아 우리가 맡은 은혜의 일로 우리와 동행하는 자라

고후8:20 이것을 조심함은 우리가 맡은 이 거액의 연보에 대하여 아무도 우리를 비방하지 못하게 하려 함이니

고후8:21 이는 우리가 주 앞에서뿐 아니라 사람 앞에서도 선한 일에 조심하려 함이라

고후8:22 또 그들과 함께 우리의 한 형제를 보내었노니 우리가 여러 가지 일에 간절한 것을 여러 번 확인하였거니와 이제 그가 너희를 크게 믿으므로 더욱 간절하니라

고후8:23 디도로 말하면 나의 동료요 너희를 위한 나의 동역자요 우리 형제들로 말하면 여러 교회의 사자들이요 그리스도의 영광이니라

고후8:24 그러므로 너희는 여러 교회 앞에서 너희의 사랑과 너희에 대한 우리 자랑의 증거를 그들에게 보이라

에스겔 22 장.

겔22:1 또 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

겔22:2 인자야 네가 심판하려느냐 이 피흘린 성읍을 심판하려느냐 그리하려거든 자기의 모든 가증한 일을 그들이 알게 하라

겔22:3 너는 말하라 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 자기 가운데에 피를 흘려 벌받을 때가 이르게 하며 우상을 만들어 스스로 더럽히는 성아

겔22:4 네가 흘린 피로 말미암아 죄가 있고 네가 만든 우상으로 말미암아 스스로 더럽혔으니 네 날이 가까웠고 네 연한이 찼도다 그러므로 내가 너로 이방의 능욕을 받으며 만국의 조롱 거리가 되게 하였노라

겔22:5 너 이름이 더럽고 어지러움이 많은 자여 가까운 자나 먼 자나 다 너를 조롱하리라

겔22:6 이스라엘 모든 고관은 각기 권세대로 피를 흘리려고 네 가운데에 있었도다

겔22:7 그들이 네 가운데에서 부모를 업신여겼으며 네 가운데에서 나그네를 학대하였으며 네 가운데에서 고아와 과부를 해하였도다

겔22:8 너는 나의 성물들을 업신여겼으며 나의 안식일을 더럽혔으며

겔22:9 네 가운데에 피를 흘리려고 이간을 붙이는 자도 있었으며 네 가운데에 산 위에서 제물을 먹는 자도 있었으며 네 가운데에 음행하는 자도 있었으며

겔22:10 네 가운데에 자기 아버지의 하체를 드러내는 자도 있었으며 네 가운데에 월경하는 부정한 여인과 관계하는 자도 있었으며

겔22:11 어떤 사람은 그 이웃의 아내와 가증한 일을 행하였으며 어떤 사람은 그의 며느리를 더럽혀 음행하였으며 네 가운데에 어떤 사람은 그 자매 곧 아버지의 딸과 관계하였으며

겔22:12 네 가운데에 피를 흘리려고 뇌물을 받는 자도 있었으며 네가 변돈과 이자를 받았으며 이를 탐하여 이웃을 속여 빼앗았으며 나를 잊어버렸도다 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

겔22:13 네가 불의를 행하여 이익을 얻은 일과 네 가운데에 피 흘린 일로 말미암아 내가 손뼉을 쳤나니

겔22:14 내가 네게 보응하는 날에 네 마음이 견디겠느냐 네 손이 힘이 있겠느냐 나 여호와가 말하였으니 내가 이루리라

겔22:15 내가 너를 뭇 나라 가운데에 흩으며 각 나라에 헤치고 너의 더러운 것을 네 가운데에서 멸하리라

겔22:16 네가 자신 때문에 나라들의 목전에서 수치를 당하리니 내가 여호와인 줄 알리라 하셨다 하라

겔22:17 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

겔22:18 인자야 이스라엘 족속이 내게 찌꺼기가 되었나니 곧 풀무 불 가운데에 있는 놋이나 주석이나 쇠나 납이며 은의 찌꺼기로다

겔22:19 그러므로 주 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하셨느니라 너희가 다 찌꺼기가 되었은즉 내가 너희를 예루살렘 가운데로 모으고

겔22:20 사람이 은이나 놋이나 쇠나 납이나 주석이나 모아서 풀무 불 속에 넣고 불을 불어 녹이는 것 같이 내가 노여움과 분으로 너희를 모아 거기에 두고 녹이리라

겔22:21 내가 너희를 모으고 내 분노의 불을 너희에게 불면 너희가 그 가운데에서 녹되

겔22:22 은이 풀무 불 가운데에서 녹는 것 같이 너희가 그 가운데에서 녹으리니 나 여호와가 분노를 너희 위에 쏟은 줄을 너희가 알리라

겔22:23 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하여 이르시되

겔22:24 인자야 너는 그에게 이르기를 너는 정결함을 얻지 못한 땅이요 진노의 날에 비를 얻지 못한 땅이로다 하라

겔22:25 그 가운데에서 선지자들의 반역함이 우는 사자가 음식물을 움킴 같았도다 그들이 사람의 영혼을 삼켰으며 재산과 보물을 탈취하며 과부를 그 가운데에 많게 하였으며

겔22:26 그 제사장들은 내 율법을 범하였으며 나의 성물을 더럽혔으며 거룩함과 속된 것을 구별하지 아니하였으며 부정함과 정한 것을 사람이 구별하게 하지 아니 하였으며 그의 눈을 가리어 나의 안식일을 보지 아니하였으므로 내가 그들 가운데에서 더럽힘을 받았느니라

겔22:27 그 가운데에 그 고관들은 음식물을 삼키는 이리 같아서 불의한 이익을 얻으려고 피를 흘려 영혼을 멸하거늘

겔22:28 그 선지자들이 그들을 위하여 회를 칠하고 스스로 허탄한 이상을 보며 거짓 복술을 행하며 여호와가 말하지 아니하였어도 주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 하였으며

겔22:29 이 땅 백성은 포악하며 강탈하여 가난하고 궁핍한 자를 압제하였으며 나그네를 부당하게 학대하였으므로

겔22:30 이 땅을 위하여 성을 쌓으며 성 무너진 데를 막아 서서 나로 하여금 멸하지 못하게 할 사람을 내가 그 가운데에서 찾다가 찾지 못하였으므로

겔22:31 내가 내 분노를 그들 위에 쏟으며 내 진노의 불로 멸하여 그들 행위대로 그들 머리에 보응하였느니라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라

시편 69 장.

시69:1 하나님이여 나를 구원하소서 물들이 내 영혼에까지 흘러 들어왔나이다

시69:2 나는 설 곳이 없는 깊은 수렁에 빠지며 깊은 물에 들어가니 큰 물이 내게 넘치나이다

시69:3 내가 부르짖음으로 피곤하여 나의 목이 마르며 나의 하나님을 바라서 나의 눈이 쇠하였나이다

시69:4 까닭 없이 나를 미워하는 자가 나의 머리털보다 많고 부당하게 나의 원수가 되어 나를 끊으려 하는 자가 강하였으니 내가 빼앗지 아니한 것도 물어 주게 되었나이다

시69:5 하나님이여 주는 나의 우매함을 아시오니 나의 죄가 주 앞에서 숨김이 없나이다

시69:6 주 만군의 여호와여 주를 바라는 자들이 나를 인하여 수치를 당하게 하지 마옵소서 이스라엘의 하나님이여 주를 찾는 자가 나로 말미암아 욕을 당하게 하지 마옵소서

시69:7 내가 주를 위하여 비방을 받았사오니 수치가 나의 얼굴에 덮였나이다

시69:8 내가 나의 형제에게는 객이 되고 나의 어머니의 자녀에게는 낯선 사람이 되었나이다

시69:9 주의 집을 위하는 열성이 나를 삼키고 주를 비방하는 비방이 내게 미쳤나이다

시69:10 내가 곡하고 금식하였더니 그것이 도리어 나의 욕이 되었으며

시69:11 내가 굵은 베로 내 옷을 삼았더니 내가 그들의 말 거리가 되었나이다

시69:12 성문에 앉은 자가 나를 비난하며 독주에 취한 무리가 나를 두고 노래하나이다

시69:13 여호와여 나를 반기시는 때에 내가 주께 기도하오니 하나님이여 많은 인자와 구원의 진리로 내게 응답하소서

시69:14 나를 수렁에서 건지사 빠지지 말게 하시고 나를 미워하는 자에게서와 깊은 물에서 건지소서

시69:15 큰 물이 나를 휩쓸거나 깊음이 나를 삼키지 못하게 하시며 웅덩이가 내 위에 덮쳐 그것의 입을 닫지 못하게 하소서

시69:16 여호와여 주의 인자하심이 선하시오니 내게 응답하시며 주의 많은 긍휼에 따라 내게로 돌이키소서

시69:17 주의 얼굴을 주의 종에게서 숨기지 마소서 내가 환난 중에 있사오니 속히 내게 응답하소서

시69:18 내 영혼에게 가까이 하사 구원하시며 내 원수로 말미암아 나를 속량하소서

시69:19 주께서 나의 비방과 수치와 능욕을 아시나이다 나의 대적자들이 다 주님 앞에 있나이다

시69:20 비방이 나의 마음을 상하게 하여 근심이 충만하니 불쌍히 여길 자를 바라나 없고 긍휼히 여길 자를 바라나 찾지 못하였나이다

시69:21 그들이 쓸개를 나의 음식물로 주며 목마를 때에는 초를 마시게 하였사오니

시69:22 그들의 밥상이 올무가 되게 하시며 그들의 평안이 덫이 되게 하소서

시69:23 그들의 눈이 어두워 보지 못하게 하시며 그들의 허리가 항상 떨리게 하소서

시69:24 주의 분노를 그들의 위에 부으시며 주의 맹렬하신 노가 그들에게 미치게 하소서

시69:25 그들의 거처가 황폐하게 하시며 그들의 장막에 사는 자가 없게 하소서

시69:26 무릇 그들이 주께서 치신 자를 핍박하며 주께서 상하게 하신 자의 슬픔을 말하였사오니

시69:27 그들의 죄악에 죄악을 더하사 주의 공의에 들어오지 못하게 하소서

시69:28 그들을 생명책에서 지우사 의인들과 함께 기록되지 말게 하소서

시69:29 오직 나는 가난하고 슬프오니 하나님이여 주의 구원으로 나를 높이소서

시69:30 내가 노래로 하나님의 이름을 찬송하며 감사함으로 하나님을 위대하시다 하리니

시69:31 이것이 소 곧 뿔과 굽이 있는 황소를 드림보다 여호와를 더욱 기쁘시게 함이 될 것이라

시69:32 곤고한 자가 이를 보고 기뻐하나니 하나님을 찾는 너희들아 너희 마음을 소생하게 할지어다

시69:33 여호와는 궁핍한 자의 소리를 들으시며 자기로 말미암아 갇힌 자를 멸시하지 아니하시나니

시69:34 천지가 그를 찬송할 것이요 바다와 그 중의 모든 생물도 그리할지로다

시69:35 하나님이 시온을 구원하시고 유다 성읍들을 건설하시리니 무리가 거기에 살며 소유를 삼으리로다

시69:36 그의 종들의 후손이 또한 이를 상속하고 그의 이름을 사랑하는 자가 그 중에 살리로다

2 Samuel 15.

15:1 In the course of time, Absalom provided himself with a chariot and horses and with fifty men to run ahead of him.

15:2 He would get up early and stand by the side of the road leading to the city gate. Whenever anyone came with a complaint to be placed before the king for a decision, Absalom would call out to him, "What town are you from?" He would answer, "Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel."

15:3 Then Absalom would say to him, "Look, your claims are valid and proper, but there is no representative of the king to hear you."

15:4 And Absalom would add, "If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that he gets justice."

15:5 Also, whenever anyone approached him to bow down before him, Absalom would reach out his hand, take hold of him and kiss him.

15:6 Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

15:7 At the end of four years, Absalom said to the king, "Let me go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the LORD.

15:8 While your servant was living at Geshur in Aram, I made this vow: 'If the LORD takes me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the LORD in Hebron.'"

15:9 The king said to him, "Go in peace." So he went to Hebron.

15:10 Then Absalom sent secret messengers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpets, then say, 'Absalom is king in Hebron.'"

15:11 Two hundred men from Jerusalem had accompanied Absalom. They had been invited as guests and went quite innocently, knowing nothing about the matter.

15:12 While Absalom was offering sacrifices, he also sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, to come from Giloh, his hometown. And so the conspiracy gained strength, and Absalom's following kept on increasing.

15:13 A messenger came and told David, "The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom."

15:14 Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, "Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin upon us and put the city to the sword."

15:15 The king's officials answered him, "Your servants are ready to do whatever our lord the king chooses."

15:16 The king set out, with his entire household following him; but he left ten concubines to take care of the palace.

15:17 So the king set out, with all the people following him, and they halted at a place some distance away.

15:18 All his men marched past him, along with all the Kerethites and Pelethites; and all the six hundred Gittites who had accompanied him from Gath marched before the king.

15:19 The king said to Ittai the Gittite, "Why should you come along with us? Go back and stay with King Absalom. You are a foreigner, an exile from your homeland.

15:20 You came only yesterday. And today shall I make you wander about with us, when I do not know where I am going? Go back, and take your countrymen. May kindness and faithfulness be with you."

15:21 But Ittai replied to the king, "As surely as the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king may be, whether it means life or death, there will your servant be."

15:22 David said to Ittai, "Go ahead, march on." So Ittai the Gittite marched on with all his men and the families that were with him.

15:23 The whole countryside wept aloud as all the people passed by. The king also crossed the Kidron Valley, and all the people moved on toward the desert.

15:24 Zadok was there, too, and all the Levites who were with him were carrying the ark of the covenant of God. They set down the ark of God, and Abiathar offered sacrifices until all the people had finished leaving the city.

15:25 Then the king said to Zadok, "Take the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the LORD'S eyes, he will bring me back and let me see it and his dwelling place again.

15:26 But if he says, 'I am not pleased with you,' then I am ready; let him do to me whatever seems good to him."

15:27 The king also said to Zadok the priest, "Aren't you a seer? Go back to the city in peace, with your son Ahimaaz and Jonathan son of Abiathar. You and Abiathar take your two sons with you.

15:28 I will wait at the fords in the desert until word comes from you to inform me."

15:29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.

15:30 But David continued up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went; his head was covered and he was barefoot. All the people with him covered their heads too and were weeping as they went up.

15:31 Now David had been told, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." So David prayed, "O LORD, turn Ahithophel's counsel into foolishness."

15:32 When David arrived at the summit, where people used to worship God, Hushai the Arkite was there to meet him, his robe torn and dust on his head.

15:33 David said to him, "If you go with me, you will be a burden to me.

15:34 But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king; I was your father's servant in the past, but now I will be your servant,' then you can help me by frustrating Ahithophel's advice.

15:35 Won't the priests Zadok and Abiathar be there with you? Tell them anything you hear in the king's palace.

15:36 Their two sons, Ahimaaz son of Zadok and Jonathan son of Abiathar, are there with them. Send them to me with anything you hear."

15:37 So David's friend Hushai arrived at Jerusalem as Absalom was entering the city.

2 Corinthians 8.

8:1 And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.

8:2 Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.

8:3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,

8:4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.

8:5 And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will.

8:6 So we urged Titus, since he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.

8:7 But just as you excel in everything--in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us--see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

8:8 I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others.

8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

8:10 And here is my advice about what is best for you in this matter: Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so.

8:11 Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means.

8:12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

8:13 Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality.

8:14 At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality,

8:15 as it is written: "He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little."

8:16 I thank God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you.

8:17 For Titus not only welcomed our appeal, but he is coming to you with much enthusiasm and on his own initiative.

8:18 And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his service to the gospel.

8:19 What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help.

8:20 We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift.

8:21 For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.

8:22 In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.

8:23 As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honor to Christ.

8:24 Therefore show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our pride in you, so that the churches can see it.

Ezekiel 22.

22:1 The word of the LORD came to me:

22:2 "Son of man, will you judge her? Will you judge this city of bloodshed? Then confront her with all her detestable practices

22:3 and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: O city that brings on herself doom by shedding blood in her midst and defiles herself by making idols,

22:4 you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed and have become defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.

22:5 Those who are near and those who are far away will mock you, O infamous city, full of turmoil.

22:6 "'See how each of the princes of Israel who are in you uses his power to shed blood.

22:7 In you they have treated father and mother with contempt; in you they have oppressed the alien and mistreated the fatherless and the widow.

22:8 You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths.

22:9 In you are slanderous men bent on shedding blood; in you are those who eat at the mountain shrines and commit lewd acts.

22:10 In you are those who dishonor their fathers' bed; in you are those who violate women during their period, when they are ceremonially unclean.

22:11 In you one man commits a detestable offense with his neighbor's wife, another shamefully defiles his daughter-in-law, and another violates his sister, his own father's daughter.

22:12 In you men accept bribes to shed blood; you take usury and excessive interest and make unjust gain from your neighbors by extortion. And you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD.

22:13 "'I will surely strike my hands together at the unjust gain you have made and at the blood you have shed in your midst.

22:14 Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.

22:15 I will disperse you among the nations and scatter you through the countries; and I will put an end to your uncleanness.

22:16 When you have been defiled in the eyes of the nations, you will know that I am the LORD.'"

22:17 Then the word of the LORD came to me:

22:18 "Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me; all of them are the copper, tin, iron and lead left inside a furnace. They are but the dross of silver.

22:19 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'Because you have all become dross, I will gather you into Jerusalem.

22:20 As men gather silver, copper, iron, lead and tin into a furnace to melt it with a fiery blast, so will I gather you in my anger and my wrath and put you inside the city and melt you.

22:21 I will gather you and I will blow on you with my fiery wrath, and you will be melted inside her.

22:22 As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted inside her, and you will know that I the LORD have poured out my wrath upon you.'"

22:23 Again the word of the LORD came to me:

22:24 "Son of man, say to the land, 'You are a land that has had no rain or showers in the day of wrath.'

22:25 There is a conspiracy of her princes within her like a roaring lion tearing its prey; they devour people, take treasures and precious things and make many widows within her.

22:26 Her priests do violence to my law and profane my holy things; they do not distinguish between the holy and the common; they teach that there is no difference between the unclean and the clean; and they shut their eyes to the keeping of my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.

22:27 Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.

22:28 Her prophets whitewash these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations. They say, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says'--when the LORD has not spoken.

22:29 The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the alien, denying them justice.

22:30 "I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.

22:31 So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD."

Psalms 69.

69:1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.

69:2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me.

69:3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.

69:4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal.

69:5 You know my folly, O God; my guilt is not hidden from you.

69:6 May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the LORD Almighty; may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O God of Israel.

69:7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.

69:8 I am a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother's sons;

69:9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.

69:10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn;

69:11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me.

69:12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.

69:13 But I pray to you, O LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.

69:14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters.

69:15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.

69:16 Answer me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.

69:17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.

69:18 Come near and rescue me; redeem me because of my foes.

69:19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you.

69:20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none.

69:21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.

69:22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap.

69:23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.

69:24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them.

69:25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents.

69:26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.

69:27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation.

69:28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous.

69:29 I am in pain and distress; may your salvation, O God, protect me.

69:30 I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

69:31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs.

69:32 The poor will see and be glad--you who seek God, may your hearts live!

69:33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people.

69:34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them,

69:35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it;

69:36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
