사무엘상 15 장.

삼상15:1 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되 여호와께서 나를 보내어 왕에게 기름을 부어 그의 백성 이스라엘 위에 왕으로 삼으셨은즉 이제 왕은 여호와의 말씀을 들으소서

삼상15:2 만군의 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 아말렉이 이스라엘에게 행한 일 곧 애굽에서 나올 때에 길에서 대적한 일로 내가 그들을 벌하노니

삼상15:3 지금 가서 아말렉을 쳐서 그들의 모든 소유를 남기지 말고 진멸하되 남녀와 소아와 젖 먹는 아이와 우양과 낙타와 나귀를 죽이라 하셨나이다 하니

삼상15:4 사울이 백성을 소집하고 그들을 들라임에서 세어 보니 보병이 이십만 명이요 유다 사람이 만 명이라

삼상15:5 사울이 아말렉 성에 이르러 골짜기에 복병시키니라

삼상15:6 사울이 겐 사람에게 이르되 아말렉 사람 중에서 떠나 가라 그들과 함께 너희를 멸하게 될까 하노라 이스라엘 모든 자손이 애굽에서 올라올 때에 너희가 그들을 선대하였느니라 이에 겐 사람이 아말렉 사람 중에서 떠나니라

삼상15:7 사울이 하월라에서부터 애굽 앞 술에 이르기까기 아말렉 사람을 치고

삼상15:8 아말렉 사람의 왕 아각을 사로 잡고 칼날로 그의 모든 백성을 진멸하였으되

삼상15:9 사울과 백성이 아각과 그의 양과 소의 가장 좋은 것 또는 기름진 것과 어린 양과 모든 좋은 것을 남기고 진멸하기를 즐겨 아니하고 가치 없고 하찮은 것은 진멸하니라

삼상15:10 여호와의 말씀이 사무엘에게 임하니라 이르시되

삼상15:11 내가 사울을 왕으로 세운 것을 후회하노니 그가 돌이켜서 나를 따르지 아니하며 내 명령을 행하지 아니하였음이니라 하신지라 사무엘이 근심하여 온 밤을 여호와께 부르짖으니라

삼상15:12 사무엘이 사울을 만나려고 아침에 일찍이 일어났더니 어떤 사람이 사무엘에게 말하여 이르되 사울이 갈멜에 이르러 자기를 위하여 기념비를 세우고 발길을 돌려 길갈로 내려갔다 하는지라

삼상15:13 사무엘이 사울에게 이른즉 사울이 그에게 이르되 원하건대 당신은 여호와께 복을 받으소서 내가 여호와의 명령을 행하였나이다 하니

삼상15:14 사무엘이 이르되 그러면 내 귀에 들려오는 이 양의 소리와 내게 들리는 소의 소리는 어찌 됨이니이까 하니라

삼상15:15 사울이 이르되 그것은 무리가 아말렉 사람에게서 끌어 온 것인데 백성이 당신의 하나님 여호와께 제사하려 하여 양들과 소들 중에서 가장 좋은 것을 남김이요 그 외의 것은 우리가 진멸하였나이다 하는지라

삼상15:16 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되 가만히 계시옵소서 간 밤에 여호와께서 내게 이르신 것을 왕에게 말하리이다 하니 그가 이르되 말씀하소서

삼상15:17 사무엘이 이르되 왕이 스스로 작게 여길 그 때에 이스라엘 지파의 머리가 되지 아니하셨나이까 여호와께서 왕에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘 왕을 삼으시고

삼상15:18 또 여호와께서 왕을 길로 보내시며 이르시기를 가서 죄인 아말렉 사람을 진멸하되 다 없어지기까지 치라 하셨거늘

삼상15:19 어찌하여 왕이 여호와의 목소리를 청종하지 아니하고 탈취하기에만 급하여 여호와께서 악하게 여기시는 일을 행하였나이까

삼상15:20 사울이 사무엘에게 이르되 나는 실로 여호와의 목소리를 청종하여 여호와께서 보내신 길로 가서 아말렉 왕 아각을 끌어 왔고 아말렉 사람들을 진멸하였으나

삼상15:21 다만 백성이 그 마땅히 멸할 것 중에서 가장 좋은 것으로 길갈에서 당신의 하나님 여호와께 제사하려고 양과 소를 끌어 왔나이다 하는지라

삼상15:22 사무엘이 이르되 여호와께서 번제와 다른 제사를 그의 목소리를 청종하는 것을 좋아하심 같이 좋아하시겠나이까 순종이 제사 보다 낫고 듣는 것이 숫양의 기름보다 나으니

삼상15:23 이는 거역하는 것은 점치는 죄와 같고 완고한 것은 사신 우상에게 절하는 죄와 같음이라 왕이 여호와의 말씀을 버렸으므로 여호와께서도 왕을 버려 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨나이다 하니

삼상15:24 사울이 사무엘에게 이르되 내가 범죄하였나이다 내가 여호와의 명령과 당신의 말씀을 어긴 것은 내가 백성을 두려워하여 그들의 말을 청종하였음이니이다

삼상15:25 청하오니 지금 내 죄를 사하고 나와 함께 돌아가서 나로 하여금 여호와께 경배하게 하소서 하니

삼상15:26 사무엘이 사울에게 이르되 나는 왕과 함께 돌아가지 아니하리니 이는 왕이 여호와의 말씀을 버렸으므로 여호와께서 왕을 버려 이스라엘 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨음이니이다 하고

삼상15:27 사무엘이 가려고 돌아설 때에 사울이 그의 겉옷자락을 붙잡으매 찢어진지라

삼상15:28 사무엘이 그에게 이르되 여호와께서 오늘 이스라엘 나라를 왕에게서 떼어 왕보다 나은 왕의 이웃에게 주셨나이다

삼상15:29 이스라엘의 지존자는 거짓이나 변개함이 없으시니 그는 사람이 아니시므로 결코 변개하지 않으심이니이다 하니

삼상15:30 사울이 이르되 내가 범죄하였을지라도 이제 청하옵나니 내 백성의 장로들 앞과 이스라엘 앞에서 나를 높이사 나와 함께 돌아가서 내가 당신의 하나님 여호와께 경배하게 하소서 하더라

삼상15:31 이에 사무엘이 돌이켜 사울을 따라가매 사울이 여호와께 경배하니라

삼상15:32 사무엘이 이르되 너희는 아말렉 사람의 왕 아각을 내게로 끌어 오라 하였더니 아각이 즐거이 오며 이르되 진실로 사망의 괴로움이 지났도다 하니라

삼상15:33 사무엘이 이르되 네 칼이 여인들에게 자식이 없게 한 것 같이 여인 중 네 어미에게 자식이 없으리라 하고 그가 길갈에서 여호와 앞에서 아각을 찍어 쪼개니라

삼상15:34 이에 사무엘은 라마로 가고 사울은 사울 기브아 자기의 집으로 올라가니라

삼상15:35 사무엘이 죽는 날까지 사울을 다시 가서 보지 아니하였으니 이는 그가 사울을 위하여 슬퍼함이었고 여호와께서는 사울을 이스라엘 왕으로 삼으신 것을 후회하셨더라

로 마 서 13 장.

롬13:1 각 사람은 위에 있는 권세들에게 복종하라 권세는 하나님으로부터 나지 않음이 없나니 모든 권세는 다 하나님께서 정하신 바라

롬13:2 그러므로 권세를 거스르는 자는 하나님의 명을 거스름이니 거스르는 자들은 심판을 자취하리라

롬13:3 다스리는 자들은 선한 일에 대하여 두려움이 되지 않고 악한 일에 대하여 되나니 네가 권세를 두려워하지 아니하려느냐 선을 행하라 그리하면 그에게 칭찬을 받으리라

롬13:4 그는 하나님의 사역자가 되어 네게 선을 베푸는 자니라 그러나 네가 악을 행하거든 두려워하라 그가 공연히 칼을 가지지 아니하였으니 곧 하나님의 사역자가 되어 악을 행하는 자에게 진노하심을 따라 보응하는 자니라

롬13:5 그러므로 복종하지 아니할 수 없으니 진노 때문에 할 것이 아니라 양심을 따라 할 것이라

롬13:6 너희가 조세를 바치는 것도 이로 말미암음이라 그들이 하나님의 일꾼이 되어 바로 이 일에 항상 힘쓰느니라

롬13:7 모든 자에게 줄 것을 주되 조세를 받을 자에게 조세를 바치고 관세를 받을 자에게 관세를 바치고 두려워할 자를 두려워하며 존경할 자를 존경하라

롬13:8 피차 사랑의 빚 외에는 아무에게든지 아무 빚도 지지 말라 남을 사랑하는 자는 율법을 다 이루었느니라

롬13:9 간음하지 말라, 살인하지 말라, 도둑질하지 말라, 탐내지 말라 한 것과 그 외에 다른 계명이 있을지라도 네 이웃을 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라 하신 그 말씀 가운데 다 들었느니라

롬13:10 사랑은 이웃에게 악을 행하지 아니하나니 그러므로 사랑은 율법의 완성이니라

롬13:11 또한 너희가 이 시기를 알거니와 자다가 깰 때가 벌써 되었으니 이는 이제 우리의 구원이 처음 믿을 때보다 가까웠음이라

롬13:12 밤이 깊고 낮이 가까웠으니 그러므로 우리가 어둠의 일을 벗고 빛의 갑옷을 입자

롬13:13 낮에와 같이 단정히 행하고 방탕하거나 술 취하지 말며 음란하거나 호색하지 말며 다투거나 시기하지 말고

롬13:14 오직 주 예수 그리스도로 옷 입고 정욕을 위하여 육신의 일을 도모하지 말라

예레미야 52 장.

렘52:1 시드기야가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십일 세라 예루살렘에서 십일 년 동안 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 하무달이라 립나인 예레미야의 딸이더라

렘52:2 그가 여호야김의 모든 행위를 본 받아 여호와 보시기에 악을 행한지라

렘52:3 여호와께서 예루살렘과 유다에게 진노하심이 그들을 자기 앞에서 쫓아내시기까지 이르렀더라 시드기야가 바벨론 왕을 배반하니라

렘52:4 시드기야 제구년 열째 달 열째 날에 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살이 그의 모든 군대를 거느리고 예루살렘을 치러 올라와서 그 성에 대하여 진을 치고 주위에 토성을 쌓으매

렘52:5 그 성이 시드기야 왕 제십일년까지 포위되었더라

렘52:6 그 해 넷째 달 구일에 성중에 기근이 심하여 그 땅 백성의 양식이 떨어졌더라

렘52:7 그 성벽이 파괴되매 모든 군사가 밤중에 그 성에서 나가 두 성벽 사이 왕의 동산 곁문 길로 도망하여 갈대아인들이 그 성읍을 에워쌌으므로 그들이 아라바 길로 가더니

렘52:8 갈대아 군대가 그 왕을 뒤쫓아가서 여리고 평지에서 시드기야를 따라 잡으매 왕의 모든 군대가 그를 떠나 흩어진지라

렘52:9 그들이 왕을 사로잡아 그를 하맛땅 리블라에 있는 바벨론 왕에게로 끌고 가매 그가 시드기야를 심문하니라

렘52:10 바벨론 왕이 시드기야의 아들들을 그의 눈 앞에서 죽이고 또 리블라에서 유다의 모든 고관을 죽이며

렘52:11 시드기야의 두 눈을 빼고 놋사슬로 그를 결박하여 바벨론 왕이 그를 바벨론으로 끌고 가서 그가 죽는 날까지 옥에 가두었더라

렘52:12 바벨론의 느부갓네살 왕의 열 아홉째 해 다섯째 달 열째 날에 바벨론 왕의 어전 사령관 느부사라단이 예루살렘에 이르러

렘52:13 여호와의 성전과 왕궁을 불사르고 예루살렘의 모든 집과 고관들의 집까지 불살랐으며

렘52:14 사령관을 따르는 갈대아 사람의 모든 군대가 예루살렘 사면 성벽을 헐었더라

렘52:15 사령관 느부사라단이 백성 중 가난한 자와 성중에 남아 있는 백성과 바벨론 왕에게 항복한 자와 무리의 남은 자를 사로잡아 갔고

렘52:16 가난한 백성은 남겨 두어 포도원을 관리하는 자와 농부가 되게 하였더라

렘52:17 갈대아 사람은 또 여호와의 성전의 두 놋기둥과 받침들과 여호와의 성전의 놋대야를 깨뜨려 그 놋을 바벨론으로 가져갔고

렘52:18 가마들과 부삽들과 부집게들과 주발들과 숟가락들과 섬길 때에 쓰는 모든 놋그릇을 다 가져갔고

렘52:19 사령관은 잔들과 화로들과 주발들과 솥들과 촛대들과 숟가락들과 바리들 곧 금으로 만든 물건의 금과 은으로 만든 물건의 은을 가져갔더라

렘52:20 솔로몬 왕이 여호와의 성전을 위하여 만든 두 기둥과 한 바다와 그 받침 아래에 있는 열두 놋 소 곧 이 모든 기구의 놋 무게는 헤아릴 수 없었더라

렘52:21 그 기둥은 한 기둥의 높이가 십팔 규빗이요 그 둘레는 십이 규빗이며 그 속이 비었고 그 두께는 네 손가락 두께이며

렘52:22 기둥 위에 놋머리가 있어 그 높이가 다섯 규빗이요 머리 사면으로 돌아가며 꾸민 망사와 석류가 다 놋이며 또 다른 기둥에도 이런 모든 것과 석류가 있었더라

렘52:23 그 사면에 있는 석류는 아흔 여섯 개요 그 기둥에 둘린 그물 위에 있는 석류는 도합이 백 개이었더라

렘52:24 사령관이 대제사장 스라야와 부제사장 스바냐와 성전 문지기 세 사람을 사로잡고

렘52:25 또 성 안에서 사람을 사로잡았으니 곧 군사를 거느린 지휘관 한 사람과 또 성중에서 만난 왕의 내시 칠 명과 군인을 감독하는 군 지휘관의 서기관 하나와 성 안에서 만난 평민 육십 명이라

렘52:26 사령관 느부사라단은 그들을 사로잡아 립나에 있는 바벨론의 왕에게 나아가매

렘52:27 바벨론의 왕이 하맛 땅 립나에서 다 쳐 죽였더라 이와 같이 유다가 사로잡혀 본국에서 떠났더라

렘52:28 느부갓네살이 사로잡아 간 백성은 이러하니라 제칠년에 유다인이 삼천이십삼 명이요

렘52:29 느부갓네살의 열여덟째 해에 예루살렘에서 사로잡아 간 자가 팔백삼십이 명이요

렘52:30 느부갓네살의 제이십삼년에 사령관 느부사라단이 사로잡아 간 유다 사람이 칠백사십오 명이니 그 총수가 사천육백 명이더라

렘52:31 유다 왕 여호야긴이 사로잡혀 간지 삼십칠 년 곧 바벨론의 에월므로닥 왕의 즉위 원년 열두째 달 스물다섯째 날 그가 유다의 여호야긴 왕의 머리를 들어 주었고 감옥에서 풀어 주었더라

렘52:32 그에게 친절하게 말하고 그의 자리를 그와 함께 바벨론에 있는 왕들의 자리보다 높이고

렘52:33 그 죄수의 의복을 갈아 입혔고 그의 평생 동안 항상 왕의 앞에서 먹게 하였으며

렘52:34 그가 날마다 쓸 것을 바벨론의 왕에게서 받는 정량이 있었고 죽는 날까지 곧 종신토록 받았더라

시편 31 장.

시31:1 여호와여 내가 주께 피하오니 나를 영원히 부끄럽게 하지 마시고 주의 공의로 나를 건지소서

시31:2 내게 귀를 기울여 속히 건지시고 내게 견고한 바위와 구원하는 산성이 되소서

시31:3 주는 나의 반석과 산성이시니 그러므로 주의 이름을 생각하셔서 나를 인도하시고 지도하소서

시31:4 그들이 나를 위하여 비밀히 친 그물에서 빼내소서 주는 나의 산성이시니이다

시31:5 내가 나의 영을 주의 손에 부탁하나이다 진리의 하나님 여호와여 나를 속량하셨나이다

시31:6 내가 허탄한 거짓을 숭상하는 자들을 미워하고 여호와를 의지하나이다

시31:7 내가 주의 인자하심을 기뻐하며 즐거워할 것은 주께서 나의 고난을 보시고 환난 중에 있는 내 영혼을 아셨으며

시31:8 나를 원수의 수중에 가두지 아니 하셨고 내 발을 넓은 곳에 세우셨음이니이다

시31:9 여호와여 내가 고통 중에 있사오니 내게 은혜를 베푸소서 내가 근심 때문에 눈과 영혼과 몸이 쇠하였나이다

시31:10 내 일생을 슬픔으로 보내며 나의 연수를 탄식으로 보냄이여 내 기력이 나의 죄악 때문에 약하여지며 나의 뼈가 쇠하도소이다

시31:11 내가 모든 대적들 때문에 욕을 당하고 내 이웃에게서는 심히 당하니 내 친구가 놀라고 길에서 보는 자가 나를 피하였나이다

시31:12 내가 잊어버린 바 됨이 죽은 자를 마음에 두지 아니함 같고 깨진 그릇과 같으니이다

시31:13 내가 무리의 비방을 들었으므로 사방이 두려움으로 감싸였나이다 그들이 나를 치려고 함께 의논할 때에 내 생명을 빼앗기로 꾀하였나이다

시31:14 여호와여 그러하여도 나는 주께 의지하고 말하기를 주는 내 하나님이시라 하였나이다

시31:15 나의 앞날이 주의 손에 있사오니 내 원수들과 나를 핍박하는 자들의 손에서 나를 건져 주소서

시31:16 주의 얼굴을 주의 종에게 비추시고 주의 사랑하심으로 나를 구원하소서

시31:17 여호와여 내가 주를 불렀사오니 나를 부끄럽게 하지 마시고 악인들을 부끄럽게 하사 스올에서 잠잠하게 하소서

시31:18 교만하고 완악한 말로 무례히 의인을 치는 거짓 입술이 말 못하는 자 되게 하소서

시31:19 주를 두려워하는 자를 위하여 쌓아 두신 은혜 곧 주께 피하는 자를 위하여 인생 앞에 베푸신 은혜가 어찌 그리 큰지요

시31:20 주께서 그들을 주의 은밀한 곳에 숨기사 사람의 꾀에서 벗어나게 하시고 비밀히 장막에 감추사 말다툼에서 면하게 하시리이다

시31:21 여호와를 찬송할지어다 견고한 성에서 그의 놀라운 사랑을 내게 보이셨음이로다

시31:22 내가 놀라서 말하기를 주의 목전에서 끊어졌다 하였사오니 내가 주께 부르짖을 때에 주께서 나의 간구하는 소리를 들으셨나이다

시31:23 너희 모든 성도들아 여호와를 사랑하라 여호와께서 진실한 자를 보호하시고 교만하게 행하는 자에게 엄중히 갚으시느니라

시31:24 여호와를 바라는 너희들아 강하고 담대하라

1 Samuel 15.

15:1 Samuel said to Saul, "I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD.

15:2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt.

15:3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.'"

15:4 So Saul summoned the men and mustered them at Telaim--two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men from Judah.

15:5 Saul went to the city of Amalek and set an ambush in the ravine.

15:6 Then he said to the Kenites, "Go away, leave the Amalekites so that I do not destroy you along with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites moved away from the Amalekites.

15:7 Then Saul attacked the Amalekites all the way from Havilah to Shur, to the east of Egypt.

15:8 He took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and all his people he totally destroyed with the sword.

15:9 But Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lambs--everything that was good. These they were unwilling to destroy completely, but everything that was despised and weak they totally destroyed.

15:10 Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel:

15:11 "I am grieved that I have made Saul king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my instructions." Samuel was troubled, and he cried out to the LORD all that night.

15:12 Early in the morning Samuel got up and went to meet Saul, but he was told, "Saul has gone to Carmel. There he has set up a monument in his own honor and has turned and gone on down to Gilgal."

15:13 When Samuel reached him, Saul said, "The LORD bless you! I have carried out the LORD'S instructions."

15:14 But Samuel said, "What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is this lowing of cattle that I hear?"

15:15 Saul answered, "The soldiers brought them from the Amalekites; they spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, but we totally destroyed the rest."

15:16 "Stop!" Samuel said to Saul. "Let me tell you what the LORD said to me last night." "Tell me," Saul replied.

15:17 Samuel said, "Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel.

15:18 And he sent you on a mission, saying, 'Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; make war on them until you have wiped them out.'

15:19 Why did you not obey the LORD? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the LORD?"

15:20 "But I did obey the LORD," Saul said. "I went on the mission the LORD assigned me. I completely destroyed the Amalekites and brought back Agag their king.

15:21 The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the LORD your God at Gilgal."

15:22 But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

15:23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king."

15:24 Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned. I violated the LORD'S command and your instructions. I was afraid of the people and so I gave in to them.

15:25 Now I beg you, forgive my sin and come back with me, so that I may worship the LORD."

15:26 But Samuel said to him, "I will not go back with you. You have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you as king over Israel!"

15:27 As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe, and it tore.

15:28 Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors--to one better than you.

15:29 He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a man, that he should change his mind."

15:30 Saul replied, "I have sinned. But please honor me before the elders of my people and before Israel; come back with me, so that I may worship the LORD your God."

15:31 So Samuel went back with Saul, and Saul worshiped the LORD.

15:32 Then Samuel said, "Bring me Agag king of the Amalekites." Agag came to him confidently, thinking, "Surely the bitterness of death is past."

15:33 But Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so will your mother be childless among women." And Samuel put Agag to death before the LORD at Gilgal.

15:34 Then Samuel left for Ramah, but Saul went up to his home in Gibeah of Saul.

15:35 Until the day Samuel died, he did not go to see Saul again, though Samuel mourned for him. And the LORD was grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.

Romans 13.

13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

13:2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

13:3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.

13:4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

13:5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

13:6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing.

13:7 Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

13:9 The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

13:10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

13:11 And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

13:12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

13:13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Jeremiah 52.

52:1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother's name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.

52:2 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, just as Jehoiakim had done.

52:3 It was because of the LORD'S anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from his presence. Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

52:4 So in the ninth year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army. They camped outside the city and built siege works all around it.

52:5 The city was kept under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

52:6 By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine in the city had become so severe that there was no food for the people to eat.

52:7 Then the city wall was broken through, and the whole army fled. They left the city at night through the gate between the two walls near the king's garden, though the Babylonians were surrounding the city. They fled toward the Arabah,

52:8 but the Babylonian army pursued King Zedekiah and overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his soldiers were separated from him and scattered,

52:9 and he was captured. He was taken to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced sentence on him.

52:10 There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes; he also killed all the officials of Judah.

52:11 Then he put out Zedekiah's eyes, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon, where he put him in prison till the day of his death.

52:12 On the tenth day of the fifth month, in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard, who served the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.

52:13 He set fire to the temple of the LORD, the royal palace and all the houses of Jerusalem. Every important building he burned down.

52:14 The whole Babylonian army under the commander of the imperial guard broke down all the walls around Jerusalem.

52:15 Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard carried into exile some of the poorest people and those who remained in the city, along with the rest of the craftsmen and those who had gone over to the king of Babylon.

52:16 But Nebuzaradan left behind the rest of the poorest people of the land to work the vineyards and fields.

52:17 The Babylonians broke up the bronze pillars, the movable stands and the bronze Sea that were at the temple of the LORD and they carried all the bronze to Babylon.

52:18 They also took away the pots, shovels, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, dishes and all the bronze articles used in the temple service.

52:19 The commander of the imperial guard took away the basins, censers, sprinkling bowls, pots, lampstands, dishes and bowls used for drink offerings--all that were made of pure gold or silver.

52:20 The bronze from the two pillars, the Sea and the twelve bronze bulls under it, and the movable stands, which King Solomon had made for the temple of the LORD, was more than could be weighed.

52:21 Each of the pillars was eighteen cubits high and twelve cubits in circumference; each was four fingers thick, and hollow.

52:22 The bronze capital on top of the one pillar was five cubits high and was decorated with a network and pomegranates of bronze all around. The other pillar, with its pomegranates, was similar.

52:23 There were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides; the total number of pomegranates above the surrounding network was a hundred.

52:24 The commander of the guard took as prisoners Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest next in rank and the three doorkeepers.

52:25 Of those still in the city, he took the officer in charge of the fighting men, and seven royal advisers. He also took the secretary who was chief officer in charge of conscripting the people of the land and sixty of his men who were found in the city.

52:26 Nebuzaradan the commander took them all and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.

52:27 There at Riblah, in the land of Hamath, the king had them executed. So Judah went into captivity, away from her land.

52:28 This is the number of the people Nebuchadnezzar carried into exile: in the seventh year, 3,023 Jews;

52:29 in Nebuchadnezzar's eighteenth year, 832 people from Jerusalem;

52:30 in his twenty-third year, 745 Jews taken into exile by Nebuzaradan the commander of the imperial guard. There were 4,600 people in all.

52:31 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the year Evil-Merodach became king of Babylon, he released Jehoiachin king of Judah and freed him from prison on the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month.

52:32 He spoke kindly to him and gave him a seat of honor higher than those of the other kings who were with him in Babylon.

52:33 So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king's table.

Psalms 31.

31:1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.

31:2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.

31:3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

31:4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.

31:5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth.

31:6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD.

31:7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.

31:8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.

31:9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief.

31:10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.

31:11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends--those who see me on the street flee from me.

31:12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.

31:13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life.

31:14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."

31:15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.

31:16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

31:17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave.

31:18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.

31:19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.

31:20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues.

31:21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city.

31:22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.

31:23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full.

31:24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
