사사기 5 장.

삿5:1 이 날에 드보라와 아비노암의 아들 바락이 노래하여 이르되

삿5:2 이스라엘의 영솔자들이 영솔하였고 백성이 즐거이 헌신하였으니 여호와를 찬송하라

삿5:3 너희 왕들아 들으라 통치자들아 귀를 기울이라 나 곧 내가 여호와를 노래할 것이요 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 찬송하리로다

삿5:4 여호와여 주께서 세일에서부터 나오시고 에돔 들에서부터 진행하실 때에 땅이 진동하고 하늘이 물을 내리고 구름도 물을 내렸나이다

삿5:5 산들이 여호와 앞에서 진동하니 저 시내 산도 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와 앞에서 진동하였도다

삿5:6 아낫의 아들 삼갈의 날에 또는 야엘의 날에는 대로가 비었고 길의 행인들은 오솔길로 다녔도다

삿5:7 이스라엘에는 마을 사람들이 그쳤으니 나 드보라가 일어나 이스라엘의 어머니가 되기까지 그쳤도다

삿5:8 무리가 새 신들을 택하였으므로 그 때에 전쟁이 성문에 이르렀으나 이스라엘의 사만 명 중에 방패와 창이 보였던가

삿5:9 내 마음이 이스라엘의 방백을 사모함은 그들이 백성 중에서 즐거이 헌신하였음이니 여호와를 찬송하라

삿5:10 흰 나귀를 탄 자들, 양탄자에 앉은 자들, 길에 행하는 자들아 전파할지어다

삿5:11 활 쏘는 자들의 소리로부터 멀리 떨어진 물 긷는 곳에서도 여호와의 공의로우신 일을 전하라 이스라엘에서 마을 사람들을 위한 의로우신 일을 노래하라 그 때에 여호와의 백성이 성문에 내려갔도다

삿5:12 깰지어다 깰지어다 드보라여 깰지어다 깰지어다 너는 노래할지어다 일어날지어다 바락이여 아비노암의 아들이여 네가 사로잡은 자를 끌고 갈지어다

삿5:13 그 때에 남은 귀인과 백성이 내려왔고 여호와께서 나를 위하여 용사를 치시려고 내려오셨도다

삿5:14 에브라임에게서 나온 자들은 아말렉에 뿌리 박힌 자들이요 베냐민은 백성들 중에서 너를 따르는 자들이요 마길에게서는 명령하는 자들이 내려왔고 스불론에게서는 대장군의 지팡이를 잡은 자들이 내려왔도다

삿5:15 잇사갈의 방백들이 드보라와 함께 하니 잇사갈과 같이 바락도 그의 뒤를 따라 골짜기로 달려 내려가니 르우벤 시냇가에서 큰 결심이 있었도다

삿5:16 네가 양의 우리 가운데에 앉아서 목자의 피리 부는 소리를 들음은 어찌 됨이냐 르우벤 시냇가에서 큰 결심이 있었도다

삿5:17 길르앗은 요단 강 저쪽에 거주하며 단은 배에 머무름이 어찌 됨이냐 아셀은 해변에 앉으며 자기 항만에 거주하도다

삿5:18 스불론은 죽음을 무릅쓰고 목숨을 아끼지 아니한 백성이요 납달리도 들의 높은 곳에서 그러하도다

삿5:19 왕들이 와서 싸울 때에 가나안 왕들이 므깃도 물가 다아낙에서 싸웠으나 은을 탈취하지 못하였도다

삿5:20 별들이 하늘에서부터 싸우되 그들이 다니는 길에서 시스라와 싸웠도다

삿5:21 기손 강은 그 무리를 표류시켰으니 이 기손 강은 옛 강이라 내 영혼아 네가 힘 있는 자를 밟았도다

삿5:22 그 때에 군마가 빨리 달리니 말굽 소리가 땅을 울리도다

삿5:23 여호와의 사자의 말씀에 메로스를 저주하라 너희가 거듭거듭 그 주민들을 저주할 것은 그들이 와서 여호와를 돕지 아니하며 여호와를 도와 용사를 치지 아니함이니라 하시도다

삿5:24 겐 사람 헤벨의 아내 야엘은 다른 여인들보다 복을 받을 것이니 장막에 있는 여인들 보다 더욱 복을 받을 것이로다

삿5:25 시스라가 물을 구하매 우유를 주되 곧 엉긴 우유를 귀한 그릇에 담아 주었고

삿5:26 손으로 장막 말뚝을 잡으며 오른손에 일꾼들의 방망이를 들고 시스라를 쳐서 그의 머리를 뚫되 곧 그의 관자놀이를 꿰뚫었도다

삿5:27 그가 그의 발 앞에 꾸부러지며 엎드러지고 쓰러졌고 그의 발 앞에 꾸부러져 엎드러져서 그 꾸부러진 곳에 엎드러져 죽었도다

삿5:28 시스라의 어머니가 창문을 통하여 바라보며 창살을 통하여 부르짖기를 그의 병거가 어찌하여 더디 오는가 그의 병거들의 걸음이 어찌하여 늦어지는가 하매

삿5:29 그의 지혜로운 시녀들이 대답하였겠고 그도 스스로 대답하기를

삿5:30 그들이 어찌 노략물을 얻지 못하였으랴 그것을 나누지 못하였으랴 사람마다 한두 처녀를 얻었으리로다 시스라는 채색 옷을 노략하였으리니 그것은 수 놓은 채색 옷이리로다 곧 양쪽에 수 놓은 채색 옷이리니 노략한 자의 목에 꾸미리로다 하였으리라

삿5:31 여호와여 주의 원수들은 다 이와 같이 망하게 하시고 주를 사랑하는 자들은 해가 힘있게 돋음 같게 하시옵소서 하니라 그 땅이 사십 년 동안 평온하였더라

사도행전 9 장.

행9:1 사울이 주의 제자들에 대하여 여전히 위협과 살기가 등등하여 대제사장에게 가서

행9:2 다메섹 여러 회당에 가져갈 공문을 청하니 이는 만일 그 도를 따르는 사람을 만나면 남녀를 막론하고 결박하여 예루살렘으로 잡아오려 함이라

행9:3 사울이 길을 가다가 다메섹에 가까이 이르더니 홀연히 하늘로부터 빛이 그를 둘러 비추는지라

행9:4 땅에 엎드러져 들으매 소리가 있어 이르시되 사울아 사울아 네가 어찌하여 나를 박해하느냐 하시거늘

행9:5 대답하되 주여 누구시니이까 이르시되 나는 네가 박해하는 예수라

행9:6 너는 일어나 시내로 들어가라 네가 행할 것을 네게 이를 자가 있느니라 하시니

행9:7 같이 가던 사람들은 소리만 듣고 아무도 보지 못하여 말을 못하고 서 있더라

행9:8 사울이 땅에서 일어나 눈은 떴으나 아무 것도 보지 못하고 사람의 손에 끌려 다메섹으로 들어가서

행9:9 사흘 동안 보지 못하고 먹지도 마시지도 아니하니라

행9:10 그 때에 다메섹에 아나니아라 하는 제자가 있더니 주께서 환상 중에 불러 이르시되 아나니아야 하시거늘 대답하되 주여 내가 여기 있나이다 하니

행9:11 주께서 이르시되 일어나 직가라 하는 거리로 가서 유다의 집에서 다소 사람 사울이라 하는 사람을 찾으라 그가 기도하는 중이니라

행9:12 그가 아나니아라 하는 사람이 들어와서 자기에게 안수하여 다시 보게 하는 것을 보았느니라 하시거늘

행9:13 아나니아가 대답하되 주여 이 사람에 대하여 내가 여러 사람에게 듣사온즉 그가 예루살렘에서 주의 성도들에게 적지 않은 해를 끼쳤다 하더니

행9:14 여기서도 주의 이름을 부르는 모든 사람을 결박할 권한을 대제사장들에게서 받았나이다 하거늘

행9:15 주께서 이르시되 가라 이 사람은 내 이름을 이방인과 임금들과 이스라엘 자손들에게 전하기 위하여 택한 나의 그릇이라

행9:16 그가 내 이름을 위하여 얼마나 고난을 받아야 할 것을 내가 그에게 보이리라 하시니

행9:17 아나니아가 떠나 그 집에 들어가서 그에게 안수하여 이르되 형제 사울아 주 곧 네가 오는 길에서 나타나셨던 예수께서 나를 보내어 너로 다시 보게 하시고 성령으로 충만하게 하신다 하니

행9:18 즉시 사울의 눈에서 비늘 같은 것이 벗어져 다시 보게 된지라 일어나 세례를 받고

행9:19 음식을 먹으매 강건하여지니라 사울이 다메섹에 있는 제자들과 함께 며칠 있을새

행9:20 즉시로 각 회당에서 예수가 하나님의 아들이심을 전파하니

행9:21 듣는 사람이 다 놀라 말하되 이 사람이 예루살렘에서 이 이름을 부르는 사람을 멸하려던 자가 아니냐 여기 온 것도 그들을 결박하여 대제사장들에게 끌어 가고자 함이 아니냐 하더라

행9:22 사울은 힘을 더 얻어 예수를 그리스도라 증언하여 다메섹에 사는 유대인들을 당혹하게 하니라

행9:23 여러 날이 지나매 유대인들이 사울 죽이기를 공모하더니

행9:24 그 계교가 사울에게 알려지니라 그들이 그를 죽이려고 밤낮으로 성문까지 지키거늘

행9:25 그의 제자들이 밤에 사울을 광주리에 담아 성벽에서 달아 내리니라

행9:26 사울이 예루살렘에 가서 제자들을 사귀고자 하나 다 두려워하여 그가 제자 됨을 믿지 아니하니

행9:27 바나바가 데리고 사도들에게 가서 그가 길에서 어떻게 주를 보았는지와 주께서 그에게 말씀하신 일과 다메섹에서 그가 어떻게 예수의 이름으로 담대히 말하였는지를 전하니라

행9:28 사울이 제자들과 함께 있어 예루살렘에 출입하며

행9:29 또 주 예수의 이름으로 담대히 말하고 헬라파 유대인들과 함께 말하며 변론하니 그 사람들이 죽이려고 힘쓰거늘

행9:30 형제들이 알고 가이사랴로 데리고 내려가서 다소로 보내니라

행9:31 그리하여 온 유대와 갈릴리와 사마리아 교회가 평안하여 든든히 서가고 주를 경외함과 성령의 위로로 진행하여 수가 더 많아지니라

행9:32 그 때에 베드로가 사방으로 두루 다니다가 룻다에 사는 성도들에게도 내려갔더니

행9:33 거기서 애니아라 하는 사람을 만나매 그는 중풍병으로 침상 위에 누운 지 여덟 해라

행9:34 베드로가 이르되 애니아야 예수 그리스도께서 너를 낫게 하시니 일어나 네 자리를 정돈하라 한 대 곧 일어나니

행9:35 룻다와 사론에 사는 사람들이 다 그를 보고 주께로 돌아오니라

행9:36 욥바에 다비다라 하는 여제자가 있으니 그 이름을 번역하면 도르가라 선행과 구제하는 일이 심히 많더니

행9:37 그 때에 병들어 죽으매 시체를 씻어 다락에 누이니라

행9:38 룻다가 욥바에서 가까운지라 제자들이 베드로가 거기 있음을 듣고 두 사람을 보내어 지체 말고 와 달라고 간청하여

행9:39 베드로가 일어나 그들과 함께 가서 이르매 그들이 데리고 다락방에 올라가니 모든 과부가 베드로 곁에 서서 울며 도르가가 그들과 함께 있을 때에 지은 속옷과 겉옷을 다 내보이거늘

행9:40 베드로가 사람을 다 내보내고 무릎을 꿇고 기도하고 돌이켜 시체를 향하여 이르되 다비다야 일어나라 하니 그가 눈을 떠 베드로를 보고 일어나 앉는지라

행9:41 베드로가 손을 내밀어 일으키고 성도들과 과부들을 불러 들여 그가 살아난 것을 보이니

행9:42 온 욥바 사람이 알고 많은 사람이 주를 믿더라

행9:43 베드로가 욥바에 여러 날 있어 시몬이라 하는 무두장이의 집에서 머무니라

예레미야 18 장.

렘18:1 여호와께로부터 예레미야에게 임한 말씀에 이르시되

렘18:2 너는 일어나 토기장이의 집으로 내려가라 내가 거기에서 내 말을 네게 들려주리라 하시기로

렘18:3 내가 토지장이의 집으로 내려가서 본즉 그가 녹로로 일을 하는데

렘18:4 진흙으로 만든 그릇이 토기장이의 손에서 터지매 그가 그것으로 자기에 좋은 대로 다른 그릇을 만들더라

렘18:5 그 때에 여호와의 말씀이 내게 임하니라 이르시되

렘18:6 여호와의 말씀이니라 이스라엘 족속아 이 토기장이가 하는 것 같이 내가 능히 너희에게 행하지 못하겠느냐 이스라엘 족속아 진흙이 토기장이의 손에 있음 같이 너희가 내 손에 있느니라

렘18:7 내가 어느 민족이나 국가를 뽑거나 부수거나 멸하려 할 때에

렘18:8 만일 내가 말한 그 민족이 그의 악에서 돌이키면 내가 그에게 내리기로 생각하였던 재앙에 대하여 뜻을 돌이키겠고

렘18:9 내가 어느 민족이나 국가를 건설하거나 심으려 할 때에

렘18:10 만일 그들이 나 보기에 악한 것을 행하여 내 목소리를 청종하지 아니하면 내가 그에게 유익하게 하리라고 한 복에 대하여 뜻을 돌이키리라

렘18:11 그러므로 이제 너는 유다 사람들과 예루살렘 주민들에게 말하여 이르기를 여호와의 말씀에 보라 내가 너희에게 재앙을 내리며 계책을 세워 너희를 치려 하노니 너희는 각기 악한 길에서 돌이키며 너희의 길과 행위를 아름답게 하라 하셨다 하라

렘18:12 그러나 그들이 말하기를 이는 헛되니 우리는 우리의 계획대로 행하여 우리는 각기 악한 마음이 완악한 대로 행하리라 하느니라

렘18:13 그러므로 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 너희는 누가 이러한 일을 들었는지 여러 나라 가운데 물어보라 처녀 이스라엘이 심히 가증한 일을 행하였도다

렘18:14 레바논의 눈이 어찌 들의 바위를 떠나겠으며 먼 곳에서 흘러내리는 찬물이 어찌 마르겠느냐

렘18:15 무릇 내 백성은 나를 잊고 허무한 것에게 분향하거니와 이러한 것들은 그들로 그들의 길 곧 그 옛길에서 넘어지게 하며 곁길 곧 닦지 아니한 길로 행하게 하여

렘18:16 그들의 땅으로 두려움과 영원한 웃음거리가 되게 하리니 그리로 지나는 자마다 놀라서 그의 머리를 흔들리라

렘18:17 내가 그들을 그들의 원수 앞에서 흩어 버리기를 동풍으로 함 같이 할 것이며 그들의 재난의 날에는 내가 그들에게 등을 보이고 얼굴을 보이지 아니하리라

렘18:18 그들이 말하기를 오라 우리가 꾀를 내어 예레미야를 치자 제사장에게서 율법이, 지혜로운 자에게서 책략이, 선지자에게서 말씀이 끊어지지 아니할 것이니 오라 우리가 혀로 그를 치고 그의 어떤 말에도 주의하지 말자 하나이다

렘18:19 여호와여 나를 돌아보사 나와 더불어 다투는 그들의 목소리를 들어 보옵소서

렘18:20 어찌 악으로 선을 갚으리이까마는 그들이 나의 생명을 해하려고 구덩이를 팠나이다 내가 주의 분노를 그들에게서 돌이키려 하고 주의 앞에 서서 그들을 위하여 유익한 말을 한 것을 기억하옵소서

렘18:21 그러하온즉 그들의 자녀를 기근에 내어 주시며 그들을 칼의 세력에 넘기시며 그들의 아내들은 자녀를 잃고 과부가 되며 그 장정은 죽음을 당하며 그 청년은 전장에서 칼을 맞게 하시며

렘18:22 주께서 군대로 갑자기 그들에게 이르게 하사 그들의 집에서 부르짖음이 들리게 하옵소서 이는 그들이 나를 잡으려고 구덩이를 팠고 내 발을 빠뜨리려고 올무를 놓았음이니이다

렘18:23 여호와여 그들이 나를 죽이려 하는 계략을 주께서 다 아시오니 그 악을 사하지 마옵시며 그들의 죄를 주의 목전에서 지우지 마시고 그들을 주 앞에 넘어지게 하시되 주께서 노하시는 때에 이같이 그들에게 행하옵소서 하니라

마가복음 4 장.

막4:1 예수께서 다시 바닷가에서 가르치시니 큰 무리가 모여들거늘 예수께서 바다에 떠 있는 배에 올라 앉으시고 온 무리는 바닷가 육지에 있더라

막4:2 이에 예수께서 여러 가지를 비유로 가르치시니 그 가르치시는 중에 그들에게 이르시되

막4:3 들으라 씨를 뿌리는 자가 뿌리러 나가서

막4:4 뿌릴새 더러는 길 가에 떨어지매 새들이 와서 먹어 버렸고

막4:5 더러는 흙이 얕은 돌밭에 떨어지매 흙이 깊지 아니하므로 곧 싹이 나오나

막4:6 해가 돋은 후에 타서 뿌리가 없으므로 말랐고

막4:7 더러는 가시떨기에 떨어지매 가시가 자라 기운을 막으므로 결실하지 못하였고

막4:8 더러는 좋은 땅에 떨어지매 자라 무성하여 결실하였으니 삼십 배나 육십 배나 백 배가 되었느니라 하시고

막4:9 또 이르시되 들을 귀 있는 자는 들으라 하시니라

막4:10 예수께서 홀로 계실 때에 함께한 사람들이 열두 제자와 더불어 그 비유들에 대해 물으니

막4:11 이르시되 하나님 나라의 비밀을 너희에게는 주었으나 외인에게는 모든 것을 비유로 하나니

막4:12 이는 그들로 보기는 보아도 알지 못하며 듣기는 들어도 깨닫지 못하게 하여 돌이켜 죄 사함을 얻지 못하게 하려 함이라 하시고

막4:13 또 이르시되 너희가 이 비유를 알지 못할진대 어떻게 모든 비유를 알겠느냐

막4:14 뿌리는 자는 말씀을 뿌리는 것이라

막4:15 말씀이 길 가에 뿌려졌다는 것은 이들을 가리킴이니 곧 말씀을 들었을 때에 사탄이 즉시 와서 그들에게 뿌려진 말씀을 빼앗는 것이요

막4:16 또 이와 같이 돌밭에 뿌려졌다는 것은 이들을 가리킴이니 곧 말씀을 들을 때에 즉시 기쁨으로 받으나

막4:17 그 속에 뿌리가 없어 잠깐 견디다가 말씀으로 인하여 환난이나 박해가 일어나는 때에는 곧 넘어지는 자요

막4:18 또 어떤 이는 가시떨기에 뿌려진 자니 이들은 말씀을 듣기는 하되

막4:19 세상의 염려와 재물의 유혹과 기타 욕심이 들어와 말씀을 막아 결실하지 못하게 되는 자요

막4:20 좋은 땅에 뿌려졌다는 것은 곧 말씀을 듣고 받아 삼십 배나 육십 배나 백 배의 결실을 하는 자니라

막4:21 또 그들에게 이르시되 사람이 등불을 가져오는 것은 말 아래에나 평상 아래에 두려 함이냐 등경 위에 두려 함이 아니냐

막4:22 드러내려 하지 않고는 숨긴 것이 없고 나타내려 하지 않고는 감추인 것이 없느니라

막4:23 들을 귀 있는 자는 들으라

막4:24 또 이르시되 너희가 무엇을 듣는가 스스로 삼가라 너희의 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희가 헤아림을 받을 것이며 더 받으리니

막4:25 있는 자는 받을 것이요 없는 자는 그 있는 것까지도 빼앗기리라

막4:26 또 이르시되 하나님의 나라는 사람이 씨를 땅에 뿌림과 같으니

막4:27 그가 밤낮 자고 깨고 하는 중에 씨가 나서 자라되 어떻게 그리 되는 지를 알지 못하느니라

막4:28 땅이 스스로 열매를 맺되 처음에는 싹이요 다음에는 이삭이요 그 다음에는 이삭에 충실한 곡식이라

막4:29 열매가 익으면 곧 낫을 대나니 이는 추수 때가 이르렀음이니라

막4:30 또 이르시되 우리가 하나님의 나라를 어떻게 비교하며 또 무슨 비유로 나타낼까

막4:31 겨자씨 한 알과 같으니 땅에 심길 때에는 땅 위의 모든 씨보다 작은 것이로되

막4:32 심긴 후에는 자라서 모든 풀보다 커지며 큰 가지를 내나니 공중의 새들이 그 그늘에 깃들일 만큼 되느니라

막4:33 예수께서 이러한 많은 비유로 그들이 알아 들을 수 있는 대로 말씀을 가르치시되

막4:34 비유가 아니면 말씀하지 아니하시고 다만 혼자 계실 때에 그 제자들에게 모든 것을 해석하시더라

막4:35 그 날 저물 때에 제자들에게 이르시되 우리가 저편으로 건너가자 하시니

막4:36 그들이 무리를 떠나 예수를 배에 계신 그대로 모시고 가매 다른 배들도 함께 하더니

막4:37 큰 광풍이 일어나며 물결이 배에 부딪쳐 들어와 배에 가득하게 되었더라

막4:38 예수께서는 고물에서 베개를 베고 주무시더니 제자들이 깨우며 이르되 선생님이여 우리가 죽게 된 것을 돌보지 아니하시나이까 하니

막4:39 예수께서 깨어 바람을 꾸짖으시며 바다더러 이르시되 잠잠하라 고요하라 하시니 바람이 그치고 아주 잔잔하여지더라

막4:40 이에 제자들에게 이르시되 어찌하여 이렇게 무서워하느냐 너희가 어찌 믿음이 없느냐 하시니

막4:41 그들이 심히 두려워하여 서로 말하되 그가 누구이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는가 하였더라

Judges 5.

5:1 On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song:

5:2 "When the princes in Israel take the lead, when the people willingly offer themselves--praise the LORD!

5:3 "Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I will sing to the LORD, I will sing; I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel.

5:4 "O LORD, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the land of Edom, the earth shook, the heavens poured, the clouds poured down water.

5:5 The mountains quaked before the LORD, the One of Sinai, before the LORD, the God of Israel.

5:6 "In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the roads were abandoned; travelers took to winding paths.

5:7 Village life in Israel ceased, ceased until I, Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel.

5:8 When they chose new gods, war came to the city gates, and not a shield or spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel.

5:9 My heart is with Israel's princes, with the willing volunteers among the people. Praise the LORD!

5:10 "You who ride on white donkeys, sitting on your saddle blankets, and you who walk along the road, consider

5:11 the voice of the singers at the watering places. They recite the righteous acts of the LORD, the righteous acts of his warriors in Israel. "Then the people of the LORD went down to the city gates.

5:12 'Wake up, wake up, Deborah! Wake up, wake up, break out in song! Arise, O Barak! Take captive your captives, O son of Abinoam.'

5:13 "Then the men who were left came down to the nobles; the people of the LORD came to me with the mighty.

5:14 Some came from Ephraim, whose roots were in Amalek; Benjamin was with the people who followed you. From Makir captains came down, from Zebulun those who bear a commander's staff.

5:15 The princes of Issachar were with Deborah; yes, Issachar was with Barak, rushing after him into the valley. In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart.

5:16 Why did you stay among the campfires to hear the whistling for the flocks? In the districts of Reuben there was much searching of heart.

5:17 Gilead stayed beyond the Jordan. And Dan, why did he linger by the ships? Asher remained on the coast and stayed in his coves.

5:18 The people of Zebulun risked their very lives; so did Naphtali on the heights of the field.

5:19 "Kings came, they fought; the kings of Canaan fought at Taanach by the waters of Megiddo, but they carried off no silver, no plunder.

5:20 From the heavens the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera.

5:21 The river Kishon swept them away, the age-old river, the river Kishon. March on, my soul; be strong!

5:22 Then thundered the horses' hoofs--galloping, galloping go his mighty steeds.

5:23 'Curse Meroz,' said the angel of the LORD. 'Curse its people bitterly, because they did not come to help the LORD, to help the LORD against the mighty.'

5:24 "Most blessed of women be Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, most blessed of tent-dwelling women.

5:25 He asked for water, and she gave him milk; in a bowl fit for nobles she brought him curdled milk.

5:26 Her hand reached for the tent peg, her right hand for the workman's hammer. She struck Sisera, she crushed his head, she shattered and pierced his temple.

5:27 At her feet he sank, he fell; there he lay. At her feet he sank, he fell; where he sank, there he fell--dead.

5:28 "Through the window peered Sisera's mother; behind the lattice she cried out, 'Why is his chariot so long in coming? Why is the clatter of his chariots delayed?'

5:29 The wisest of her ladies answer her; indeed, she keeps saying to herself,

5:30 'Are they not finding and dividing the spoils: a girl or two for each man, colorful garments as plunder for Sisera, colorful garments embroidered, highly embroidered garments for my neck--all this as plunder?'

5:31 "So may all your enemies perish, O LORD! But may they who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength." Then the land had peace forty years.

Acts (of the Apostles) 9.

9:1 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest

9:2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.

9:3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.

9:4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"

9:5 "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied.

9:6 "Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."

9:7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone.

9:8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus.

9:9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.

9:10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, "Ananias!" "Yes, Lord," he answered.

9:11 The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.

9:12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight."

9:13 "Lord," Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem.

9:14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name."

9:15 But the Lord said to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel.

9:16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."

9:17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord--Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here--has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

9:18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,

9:19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength. Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus.

9:20 At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God.

9:21 All those who heard him were astonished and asked, "Isn't he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn't he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?"

9:22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ.

9:23 After many days had gone by, the Jews conspired to kill him,

9:24 but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him.

9:25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.

9:26 When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple.

9:27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.

9:28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.

9:29 He talked and debated with the Grecian Jews, but they tried to kill him.

9:30 When the brothers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.

9:31 Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

9:32 As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the saints in Lydda.

9:33 There he found a man named Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for eight years.

9:34 "Aeneas," Peter said to him, "Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and take care of your mat." Immediately Aeneas got up.

9:35 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.

9:36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor.

9:37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room.

9:38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, "Please come at once!"

9:39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

9:40 Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.

9:41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive.

9:42 This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord.

9:43 Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.

Jeremiah 18.

18:1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:

18:2 "Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you my message."

18:3 So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel.

18:4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.

18:5 Then the word of the LORD came to me:

18:6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

18:7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed,

18:8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned.

18:9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted,

18:10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.

18:11 "Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, 'This is what the LORD says: Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your ways and your actions.'

18:12 But they will reply, 'It's no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.'"

18:13 Therefore this is what the LORD says: "Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard anything like this? A most horrible thing has been done by Virgin Israel.

18:14 Does the snow of Lebanon ever vanish from its rocky slopes? Do its cool waters from distant sources ever cease to flow?

18:15 Yet my people have forgotten me; they burn incense to worthless idols, which made them stumble in their ways and in the ancient paths. They made them walk in bypaths and on roads not built up.

18:16 Their land will be laid waste, an object of lasting scorn; all who pass by will be appalled and will shake their heads.

18:17 Like a wind from the east, I will scatter them before their enemies; I will show them my back and not my face in the day of their disaster."

18:18 They said, "Come, let's make plans against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest will not be lost, nor will counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophets. So come, let's attack him with our tongues and pay no attention to anything he says."

18:19 Listen to me, O LORD; hear what my accusers are saying!

18:20 Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember that I stood before you and spoke in their behalf to turn your wrath away from them.

18:21 So give their children over to famine; hand them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives be made childless an` widows; let their men be put to death, their young men slain by the sword in battle.

18:22 Let a cry be heard from their houses when you suddenly bring invaders against them, for they have dug a pit to capture me and have hidden snares for my feet.

18:23 But you know, O LORD, all their plots to kill me. Do not forgive their crimes or blot out their sins from your sight. Let them be overthrown before you; deal with them in the time of your anger.

Mark 4.

4:1 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge.

4:2 He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said:

4:3 "Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.

4:4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.

4:5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.

4:6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

4:7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.

4:8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times."

4:9 Then Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

4:10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.

4:11 He told them, "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables

4:12 so that, "'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'"

4:13 Then Jesus said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable?

4:14 The farmer sows the word.

4:15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.

4:16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.

4:17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

4:18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word;

4:19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.

4:20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop--thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."

4:21 He said to them, "Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don't you put it on its stand?

4:22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.

4:23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."

4:24 "Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you--and even more.

4:25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him."

4:26 He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground.

4:27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.

4:28 All by itself the soil produces grain--first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.

4:29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."

4:30 Again he said, "What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it?

4:31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground.

4:32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds of the air can perch in its shade."

4:33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.

4:34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

4:35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side."

4:36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.

4:37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.

4:38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"

4:39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

4:40 He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"

4:41 They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
